Well, DA2 is about ten years in the life of the Champion of Kirkwall. He wouldn't be the total champion package if he went ten years without getting any.

thedas is the star of the series, but each game is focusing on how this person changed Thedas. Romances are there for roleplaying purposes'. They help define the character you are making.

The same reason almost every film and book and tv show has some sort of romance. People like it.

This totally trumps my answer, which is:

Well, what would be the point of having a personality? I mean, in the end, the Warden always defeats the Blight and recruits four different armies. What's the point of having companions? Excusing Alistair, they make no difference. The big thing Morrigan will happen whether she's with you or not.

It's to make the games more immersive. Alistair sacrificing himself at the top of Fort Drakon is heartrending if you dumped you earlier, or if you just love him. It also adds RP opportunities--you choose to sire the OGB because Morrigan, the love of your life asks you to. You become Queen because you couldn't bear Alistair to marry anyone else, or you kill Loghain because it's what Alistair wants, not you.

Because people like it and they have come to expect it out of a BioWare game, as it is a fantastic way to get a greater character depth.

"The world gets lonely too quickly if there's no one to share it with."

We're telling our character's story through playing the game, and, for me at least, romance is one of the many ingredients that goes into making an epic story.

To add immersion?

To let people RP better?

Shiza's and Giggles?

OR maybe most good stories have elements of love and romance in them. so thats why.

If it offends you "GASP" dont play it! I know its hard but if you ignore and grimace really hard you may just make it out of the game without namby bamby.

How would the Zevran or leliena romance change The overall story of DAO?

Why does it have to change the story? Why can't it just change the character? This is an RPG we're talking about, after all.

Why does there have to be a "point"? Can't it just add depth?

I know there were a couple of playthroughs where I had decided to do one ending, only to have my character fall for Zevran and refuse to take that ending, and that's something that can affect the entire rest of the series.
