That wasn't really the point of my reply. I meant it's stupid to ask such a thing, why would it need to affect anything in the world? Stuff like romance and most of the side quests just affect certain characters. Not everything needs affect the world.Blasto the jelly wrote...

How would the Zevran or leliena romance change The overall story of DAO?
I know there were a couple of playthroughs where I had decided to do one ending, only to have my character fall for Zevran and refuse to take that ending, and that's something that can affect the entire rest of the series.

It's ridiculous to say no one ever fell true to a stereotype.
Regardless, there are plenty of happily married/in a relationship Alistair fans.

"The world gets lonely too quickly if there's no one to share it with."
We're telling our character's story through playing the game, and, for me at least, romance is one of the many ingredients that goes into making an epic story.
Sure, Leliana and Zevran may not be plot integral characters, but a romance changes my warden's personal story dramatically, and that's the story I'm telling by playing the game. DAO is at it's heart a rpg game, no?
If I'm roleplaying a warden romancing Leliana and bring her along with me on various quests her comments and reactions may influence my decisions, and those decisions then influence the overall world I've created with that particular warden.

A romance does not really affect the MAIN ARC.
It affects the PC's arc, and adds depth and attachment to a game.
They are put into RPG to let them seem more alive and allow people to have a more immersive time in game. Saying what the point of Romances is liking asking whats the point of Sidequests.
Its there to add depth and immersion to a game. If you cant see the point to doing it, than dont.

Romance is just an optional sidequest and just like most sidequests in DAO, it only affects certain characters and doesn't have some major impact on the world.

That's so silly - people love romance in movies, books, tv shows, music, art, why should gaming be any different?

They DONT! DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT! Afect the main arc.
There I said it many times for you, unless you missed it.
They make the game more immersive thats it.
Also they make it better I feel zero attachement to a Bethesda world and feel much more connected to Bioware ones.

Because a game that focuses on Thedas as a whole would probably have "Sid Meier's" at the beginning of it. Rather it focuses on specific people and events within Thedas. And to the individual romance is important.
