Dragon Age, the series, is about the world, not a single charater. Each game however, focuses on the story of a single group of people. Romances are a part of that individual story.

But not the overall story of Thedas

Maybe it does affect the overall story of Thedas.

If not for Maric having his romantic ways with a scullery maid, Alistair would not exist to become a Grey Warden, a King, or possibly a drunkard wandering about.

If not for a romantic betrayal with Marjolaine, Leliana would never have become a Chantry (I want to say sister, even though she's not a full sister) who can meet you in Lothering.

True, it may be a stretch to see how romance can affect Thedas, but... Andraste is the Bride of the Maker. Isn't that a romance in itself? It might not be your character's romance, but it's definitely a romance that effects the world.

i think its 4 atracting attention and letting many people play the game after all its rated as matured and many pervrts would play the game after hearing that there is sex seens so the company is gainig money from it

i know its fun but this thread is about how does romance affect thedas not romance shoud'nt be in Dragon Age i love the romances in DAO and Mass effect. but the dev said the story is about Thedas but how could a romance effect thedas?

The story of the game itself is not about Thedas. The focus of the franchise as a whole is about Thedas.  That basically means that each individual work will be its own story.  When you put them all together, then you get the story of Thedas.

In other words, stuff in the games like romances don't need to effect Thedas.  They are details in the story that does effect Thedas.
