So in ME2, we encountered the stereotypical "badass" group of characters. You know, the cursing one, the ultraviolent one, the strangely unable to content with the horrible actions she performs one. As I look at ME2 in retrospect, I get the feeling that they really aren't that badass. See, I prefer the more subtle type: ME1's Wrex, Tali, Liara, Garrus. They didn't need to be compensating for something with their appearence or attitude. They just were, through subtle hints, very much a more "badass" group than ME2's. They didn't need to show it; they just were.

So, do you prefer the in-the-face "badassery" of ME2 or the subtle "badassery" of ME1?

God, I will never use that word again for as long as I live. <_<

Tali and Liara and Kaidan and Ashley aren't badass. Zaeed out badasses the entire squads of both games.

Apparently, you guys are the target audience. I hate the nerd perception that how cool someone is is based on looks and how they speak. If that's so, then Marcus from GoW should be the most badass person in the world.

Wrex told you how badass he was all the time. Nothing implied. Garrus told you about how ruthless he was/wanted to be. Ashley was rough and tumble to the core. Tali... eh nvm.

Basically you have 12 teammates and in order to make them stand out from each other they have to have very distinct personalities. Some teammates will be cracked, some will be quieter.

Yeah what pacer said mostly. As for me I so far pretty much like all the the squadmates in both games. The only 1 I just can't really stand is Jacob and I still like him. Just some of his lines irritate the hell out of me. Conversation wise, I've thankfully memorized most of the ones that irk me so I just skip them bits.

Also I hate the word 'badass' or badassery'. Never thought about it to much but ever since Gears came out and listening to that douche of a project lead. I get the intense sensation I need to stab someones face when I hear it now.

Maybe YOU lost all badassery when you let Vido get awayImage IPB. Otherwise Zaeed would have lit his ass on fire.

I'll have you know i use the antiwidow
There is nothing more bad ass than the anti-widow and even girlscouts become pinnacles of manly badassery when equipped

Wrex is the most badass squadmate hands down since he had to use crap weapons from mercs he killed with his bare hands to try and kill that asari commando on an exploding spacestation. Legion is badass since he wields an anti-tank sniper rifle that would be impossible for a normal organic aside from krogan or Shepard to wield on the battlefield under long periods of duress. Tali is badass in that she survived the Suicide mission while ill from the night before on my playthrough. ;D

So both MEs have their share of badasses.

I like characters from both the subtle and over the top camps of badassery. In terms of which squad is more bad ass though it's really not even close. Liara wasn't bad ass till 2, Kaiden was never bad ass and neither was Tali. Garrus and Grunt were great, and Ashley was all about shooting things in the face (hell she can kill Wrex without your permission, lol) and highly underrated in the asskickery department.

So on the whole you've got 3 versus what's essentially an entire wrecking crew of badasses except for maybe Jacob.

I would prefer a team that had Wrex and Samara... that would scare the Reapers back into dark space.

If I could have Wrex+Grunt on my squad, no one else would see any action.

I prefer badassery in the form of some red-haired sentinel smashing opposition into walls with Throw and being a renegade at the right times in the package that is my femShep. :P

Any ME2 squad mate is ten times more badass than any ME1 squad mate (except Wrex). Heck even Liara wasn't a boring nerd anymore in ME2

Word.  Zaeed's the man.  Not sure if I'll be able to play ME3 without bursting into tears if he isn't swearing at people and telling me stories.

I nearly cried when I was doing Zaeeds loyalty mission as a paragon. I thought he was going to punch me through the screen several times.

Yeah saying Wrex was subtle is wrong.

For a Krogan, ... he was veeeeery subtle. Just think what Grunt would have done.

I always prefer the subtle version. Badass people are oly badass if they don't need to show it. Everyone else is just posing, whether they can live up to it or not is out of question.
Badass to me is something like Gibbs from NCIS. One sharp look and everything crumbles. One nice smile and everything crumbles even more. But should there be a marine to be questioned, there goes the Drill Sergeant. That is badass.

But now and then, a little Shove-'em-through-a-skyscraper-window for the pure Renegades is highly appreciated. Just don't let him be a jerkass. Actually, most, if not all of the renegade interrupts are badass like in "I've had enough of this, let's dance!", but the renegade lines in ME2 are more jerky than "bady".

I want Gibbs for Squadmate in ME3.

Heh Yeah Gibbs rocks. I do like Zaeed a lot though, hes like a human Wrex if you ask me. He doesn't actually sware that much and his opinions on any given situation actually makes a lot of sense. His war stories are fun too if you listen to em.

I like Grunt but your right Wrex is VERY subtle compared to him. Heh love listening to grunt rant if you click on his dialog at the Illium bar though... its so stupid! That has nothing to do with that 'word' though, I just find it amusing.

Ultimately being that is all off there actions, words don't mean ****. I think thats the problem with Jack but shes masking an absurd amount of childhood issues and abuse so its easy (for me at least) I look past that. Sides I love the line near the end of romancing her with Shep telling her hes not gonna go. Something like Shep: "I'm also technically undead so do your worst' - Jack: "Alright Shepard.. what the ****?". ^_^

Jepp. Zaeed is badass. Wrex was pure badass. Grunt is a bully badass, not really badass in the sense of classical badass, but if he does bully someone, he does it badass. Thane is a civilized badass. But Shepard mostly seems to be a homocidal maniac who loves punching little babies. He/She has his/her badass moments, but most of time, a renegade centered Shepard is, ... well, renegade as opposed to a badass mutha%$@er.

Throw in some pieces of paragon aura, Zaeed and Wrex personality plus the renegade interrupts and you get a new level of badass that will soon get its own trope at TVTropes called "Being shepardish".

That is what I would imagine a die hard badass.

That's ... and awful lot of 'badass' use... As for Renegade Shep Yeah, a lot of his stuff comes off as just a whiny angry ******. But at the same time a lot of its kinda funny, comes off being sarcastic/joking. Really depends on the situation but most the time its kinda awful childish stuff.
