I did it all, and it was fun. If people really hate the game so much, and feel like they're slogging through something horrible just to get the unlockable items . . . that's kind of sad. You don't need any of these items to fully enjoy Dragon Age: Origins. Play Journeys if you like it, ignore it if you don't.
As for the unlocked item for doing surveys . . . I think that's brilliant. Those surveys are important for the developers. Without the reward, few people would bother to do the surveys. Now, nearly everyone will do them. Genius!
