Mass Effect 1 Adept
+1 Assault Rifles - My only bonus talent. Grabbed it for the 1 point unlock in Overkill
+0 Pistols
+12 Basic Armor - Is this even needed for a Bastion spec with max Barrier?
+12 Lift
+12 Singularity
+1 Stasis
+12 Throw
+12 Warp
+12 Bastion
+12 Charm - Do I need all 12 points into Charm to unlock every conversation option throughout ME1?
+0 Intimidate
+4 Spectre Training
Mass Effect 2 Adept
+4 Heavy Warp
+3 Throw
+4 Wide Singularity
+2 Pull
+1 Shockwave
+4 Bastion
+4 Bonus Ability - Stuck between Barrier and Slam.
I'm still having a little trouble with the ME2 Adept. I'd like to use Barrier to keep the continuity of the character and add a little defense but I think that might be better suited for a Vanguard ? I've seen Slam and I kinda liked it but I have no idea how well it works in an Adept build. Any thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which abilities to take as an Adept . This is my first Adept and I have little experience with Biotics, other than what I've used with squad members. I'm trying to build for defense and control.

For ME1 if you're looking at a completionist, one playthrough adept that is focused on paragon. I'd go more like this.
AR 9
Armor 3
Barrier 12
Throw 12
Lift 12
Singularity 12
Warp 12
Stasis 4
Bastion 12
Spectre 4
Charm 8
You can pick up the other 4 points in charm via the 3 free points from paragon and 1 free point from becoming a spectre. This is a level 57 build which is about the best you'll do on a completionist ME1 playthrough, that is not your very first pass.
If you're looking at a 3 play through build, you can completely max your charm/intimidate off of the free points and don't need to spend any there.
In ME2 getting the correct build the first time is not really as important, since you can retrain your skills after a certain point in the game. So if your build isn't working out you can always respec your point distribution and bonus talent for a little element zero

Mass Effect 2 Adept
+4 Heavy Warp
+3 Throw
+4 Wide Singularity
+2 Pull
+1 Shockwave
+4 Bastion

Slam is a bit redundant with pull and throw and you don't need Barrier if you are going to focus on casting. Energy Drain is a good bonus power for a caster IF you plan to invest a lot of points in it. Energy Drain lets you strip away shields, which are the the most common forms of defense, so that you can use pull and throw on them.
Skip shockwave if you plan to play on hardcore or insanity. Then either take one point in pull or max it. One point in pull can be quite useful. Heavy Throw is probably the better choice for maxing throw.
Go Heavy Singularity as it locks stuff down longer.
I prefer Nemesis for more damage. Bastion would give longer lasting pulls and singularity.
Warp can cause a warp explosion if the creature is effected by pull or singularity (or slam, but that is harder to time.)

Actually, you don't need any - use the infinite Paragon trick instead and you can max Charm without wasting points.
(You can spend 3 at the beginning of the game if you want to grab a nice pistol, but it's not required.)

Barrier is indeed better for Vanguards. You shouldn't be out of cover often enough to need it; you're a caster.
Instead, I would download LotSB, beat it with another character and grab Stasis as your bonus to deal with heavy hitters like YMIRs and Harbinger. One possible build would be:
+4 Heavy Warp
+4 Throw Field
+4 Wide Singularity
+4 Nemesis
+1 Pull
+4 Deep Stasis
If you don't want to do that, go for Reave instead. Your build will then be:
+4 Unstable Warp
+4 Throw Field
+4 Wide Singularity
+4 Nemesis
+1 Pull
+4 Heavy Reave
Combo UW off crowds (e.g. husks) and use Reave for the heavy hitters (e.g. Scions.)

I only plan on playing this Adept character (2nd shep) through one playthrough just so I can carry it over to Mass Effect 2 but I'm trying to get as much done as I can in just that one playthrough (all DLC, all side missions, etc). I guess I am mostly doing it for the story progression.
As for the difficulty I'd like to try Hardcore (don't think I have insanity unlocked). I'm sure this will affect the skill setup a bit in both versions so I've been playing around with a few build ideas. I have all of the ME1 DLC but I only have the ME2 DLC related to the Cerberus bonus so I don't have access to some squad members or weapons.
Optimystic_X - What is this infinite paragon trick? I always thought conversation options were tied to Charm and Intimidate so I always maxed one of those early on.

1. The Lorik Qui'in Glitch
2. The Elenetia monkey glitch.
For details http://masseffect.wi...m/wiki/Morality
Note that you will still only get the 3 free points of charm/intimidate for maxing out your paragon renegade bar and the 1 free point from becoming a spectre.
If you're playing on PC you might as well enable the console and give yourself the paragon/renegade points.
