I have just started the game and was taken aback a bit by the character creator so i decided to look up some character creation guides.  Every single one I have seen suggests building a party ignoring the rogue class.  Are they really that worthless?  They all also seem to be fond of doing your main character as some kind of DPS. either dual weild warrior,  mage, or archane warrior.  Are rogues really that incapable of DPS?  Traditionally the class is pretty good at that in most games.

I was hitting 90 damage backstabs + buffs/runes a few times a second at end game (daggers+momentum = really fast) and dropping even orange enemies so fast on nightmare. I think they are fine. If you want to go down the AoE CC route and not the AoE blow things up and kill ur party to route.

I have a lvl20 rouge and he rocks. It's abit tuff in the start but when u get some levels and the 2 stun talents with critical hits the rouge kicks ass. Just use the rouge the right way. Always place the rouge behind enemies for backstabbing.

Rouge sucks, i much prefer my wife with a darker red colour, or even a clear lipgloss. It looks a little cheap IMHO

If you go rogue, use poisons, and have a mage with flaming weapons buff in your group while you backstab monsters dual wielding with momentum... then i can assure you NOTHING can top that single target DPS.

My rogue assassin/hunter is well

I don't know if I should put it this way

But my rogue rapes enemies tbh

Especially once you consider what the hunter pets doing in addition to her

When the stat loading screens show up it says I do the majority of the partys damage

Without considering any other perks of the rogue class, the stealth ability alone is powerful enough to justify having a rogue in the party. With stealth, you can approach combat on your terms, ensuring that you are prepared for the next challenge, guaranteeing that the first round of combat is yours and, if necessary, you'll have opportunity to place traps prior to battle.

Compared to same level mages and warrors, rogues are bad. I tried 3 rogue +warrior or mage and I had problems on easy against hordes of enemies while if you play 3 mages +warrior game becomes easy on nightmare. The biggest problem is the price for potion and trap ingridients, you'll spend half your gold for that and even then your firepower will be nothing compared to mages.

Then there are boss fights and scripted encounters, you can't use hide before them, you can't lay trapps and you are surounded by enemies, in short you are dead.

What does "DPS" means, please? Thank you in advance for explanation.

(I found that there is sort of vocabulary incuding terms like DPS, aggro, OP etc. Since I'm a single player I don't know those terms.)

Yes, yes it was a typo. Get over yourselves. The first typo comment was useful. Beyond that it simply shows lack of originality.

DPS stands for damage per second. A pure damage dealing character with few defenses.

aggro is agressive.  to go aggro is when a monster notices your presence and begins attacking you.  Not sure what Op means.

because

Rouge (; Red), also called blush, is a cosmetic typically used by women
to redden the cheeks so as to provide a more youthful appearance, and
to emphasise the cheekbones.

why people butcher ROGUE is beyond me..rouge is a color..makeup..etc..

so yah..those saying they like a "rouge" I hope are female..well or at least gay..cause there's nothing wrong with that ;)

I recently rolled my first rogue, and one thing I had to keep in mind is while trying to maximize my DPS, I also had to remember to get the lockpicking skills, otherwise why have a rogue? Its kind of annoying, but I guess it is an easy fix.

Hmm i haven't dabbled much with Rogue's, probably because i can't stand Zevran and Leliana talks with an annoying voice, from what i saw with Zevran in my party though... i would say there are better alternatives for DPS.

I have two rogues in my party and they have the specialization of Bard.  My character is more of a combat rouge with lethality, coup de gras, and stuff like that.  He has light archery skills.  Lelianna is the other rogue and she is more of an archer, lock picker, trap detector, and things like that.  Alistair tanks and Wynn heals.  I like the group.  They are kind of a rag tag band of misfits.

Yes, it is true that Rogues are sort of gimp, since my dual-wield warrior outdamages my rogue character and wipes the floor with anything except the most stubborn bosses, but my rogue is a blast to play. My warrior is more a neutral, indifferent character where my Rogue is a cut-throat chaotic evil bastard. The play styles for me are different, it is creating a different play through and it is fun.

Since this is a single player game, it matters not whether or not the rogue is the best. With the right strategy and tactics you can get through the game and that is what matters.
