Just got this game and from the many posts I see many of you are by far further into the game then I am. I am just wondering what you guys think the best use of the 3 points per level can be used on. What specifically Magic, Willpower ect. Thanks in advance for the help.

Your options as a pure mage are probably going full magic. They allow an intresting double dip from magic in that it increases the effect of your mana potions as well as the power of your spells.
A blood mage can use thier health as mana, which is all I know about them but you can assume they could use Constitution (and thus rely on healing spells from allies or themselves) in place of Willpower. - Not tested
While you COULD elect to boost your mana pool you won't be able to increase it enough to last long fights. The only reason you'd want alot would be if you were taking a chunk out of your mana to pay upkeeps and didn't have enough to cast a few spells between potions.

I plan on specializing in Arcane and Shapeshifter

If you want massive amounts of damage, I'd go for blood mage instead. The Arcane Warrior and Shapeshifter are more to boost your staying power, though an arcane warrior can also hit for lots of ouch if you swap to warrior mode once you've run out of mana for more of your spectacular offensive spells.
Also, keep in mind that taking the specializations costs no talent points, but every talent point you put into the specialization's tree could be put elsewhere. If you really want the nastiest, blastiest mage on the planet, go for mostly primal spells along with the Mind Blast --> Crushing Prison tree, a few hexes to make sure you're still effective against solo bosses, and blood mage spells.
