After so many years of short lived games without any replay value what so ever.. Bioware comes with this amazing RPG.. hours and hours of gameplay, detailed dialogue, fun tactical combat and most importantly of all.. an amazing atmosphere made possible by amazing soundtracks, added realism with comments from your party members and well.. it was breath taking in a way!

This however does not mean I find Dragon Age to be the perfect RPG. My main problem is the map. An RPG is a role playing game, in Dragon Age you play the role of a Grey Warden, the guardian of men. Wynne's story put emphasis on it (not 100% accurate but it'll do I guess)

the armies of men gathered  up for one last stand against the darkspawn horde.. and just when they thought all hope was lost the grey wardens flew in on their gryphons, their wings creating wardrum like sounds creating fear amongst the darkspawn. they landed right infront of the armies of men and battled the Darkspawn head on until the archdemon was slain and the darkspawn horde driven back. At the end of the fight the sky opened up and the sun shined down again, the kings realising that they hadn't lost a single soldier during the fight.

This story was not about just one battle, but about the way the Grey Wardens are. They defend everyone from the darkspawn threat. Yet the only time before the landsmeet I ever felt appreciated as a Grey Warden was in the Dead Trenches with those men of the Legion of the Dead.

Now the main point of the story is gathering up allies to fight the blight, this is done simply by clicking on an icon on the map and poof.. you've magically appeared. Sometimes you get annoying final fantasy like random fights, or a superman easter egg shot but other than that you do not really travel at all. This to me feels boring and annoyed me to no end. RPG's in my opinion need to have an open world experience. You need to be able to enjoy the land in order to enjoy the RPG.. I want to feel connected to the world, not just connected to my party members and Arl Eamon. In this I feel Dragon Age failed to deliver. I am not asking to be given 100% travel all the time, short travel can be incredibly useful.. but atleast let us travel to cities, to quest hubs, to whatever a first time before fast travel becomes available. Let us experience this amazing world you created, instead of having us experience just the people in the game.

With that said I'd like to point out that it was never the less an amazing experience, and I very much so hope the franchise will rapidly expand. 2 years of DLC will hopefully allow my Rebecca's stories to continue on and on for a while to come.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: Oh yeah, griffins please! :D

I doubt Bioware will make an open world game any time soon. They like to have focused stories with branching choices rather than open worlds with short main quests. That's Bethesda's bag, and they do it well.

Even KOTOR felt more open world like to me than DA:O though.. I'm not saying go all the way.. I'd just wish there was more to look at. I loved the elven ruins, just standing still to look around the ruins was amazing, the forest was amazing as well. The dwarven city looked and felt amazing.. the human cities.. well they're human cities based on medieval europe.. and we only got to experience slums as far as I know, the market area looked poorly yet the arl's house was quite nice. the elven alienage was a mess as well as Redcliffe village. I guess I just feel a lack of pretty things xD
