You could possibly do something like that if you had the bride in a dress with a veil or other headdress that obscures her face. Have your opening shots showing the crowd and the obscured bride as pre-rendered video, then zoom into a tightly cropped real-time shot of Alistair lifting the veil and running through whatever ceremony you plan on.

True, problem is I have a feeling players will want to dress their brides in their own chosen dresses. :( I might give them that option.
But, the highest choppiness comes at the beginning establishing shot. Can I implement a bink within one cutscene (beginning) which includes the rest of the subsequent live animations? (Assuming I do not give a dress option)

Just for knowledge sake, I can insert a bink *and* a continuous cam shot before or after live
animations shots? (as in all in one cutscene?)

yes, you can. there is an action called "play video" or the like. this means you can instantly play a prerendered video right within your ingame cutscene.

The vanilla game stitches pre-rendered shots and live cutscenes together fairly seamlessly in a couple of spots as I recall.

If indeed that is the case and I am able to figure this combination out, a very relevant question would be if I could even include a veil !!
I am not sure a veil would be something they used in corresponding times (?) Would that be lore friendly?

oh thats news indeed. I thought cutscenes could not incorporate the two together.
So say I do something like this theoretically, I will need to record the scene itself. problem is, that if I record it, with all crowd involved, the crowd scene will still be choppy when capturing it :(

btw bioware did this all the time with their bink videos as they are just ingame cutscenes with an audio track and a "play video" action track.

So say I do something like this theoretically, I will need to record the
scene itself. problem is, that if I record it, with all crowd involved,

that what the capture cutscene command is for. this slows down your ingame action to a minimum to render out the single frames and save them as tga files. with a free video converter you can now stitch those tgas to a prerendered video in full quality (also with all high lods). now back in the toolset you can delete all the actors whom made up the audience within your cutscene and just set up sounds to create an audio track and an additional track to play the video.

Not even sure you need a converter. I'm pretty sure RAD Game Tools can encode image sequences directly to BIKs.

As far as veils go, I'm not sure on how "lore friendly" they'd be. You could PM David Gaider and ask him I guess. I'm fairly certain at least that there's no lore saying that there couldn't be veils.

or this^^ there sould also be freeware solutions to record the audio track while playing the cutscene so you won't have to add all the sounds manually.

This is very refreshing news regardless of what I end up doing with the scene.
So according to this, I would need to create a text file with all the relevant commands, and then copy the batch file from the WIKI, then run?

Edit: Oh, and regarding sounds the entire scene has one music audio track so I won't be needing any ambient sounds, but this is very good to know.

you create your cutscene with the masses as normal. now you can use a batch file or just add the commands to your linked executable (dunno how this is called in english :D). with autologin and cutscene name now da:o instantly jumps to your cutscenes and begins the rendering process. now stitch those together and if you like the outcome you can delete the actors within the toolset to replace them with your video. as there are no sounds recorded with this method you have to use external programs to do so or set them up manually.

RAD is a good idea, I actually downloaded it at some point thinking I might need it for things like this.

Regarding veils, it seems your answer would most likely be the same as something he would say :D

it's your freedom as an artist to form the lore to some degree needed. as long as there are no space ships flying around it should not be a problem to add veils^^

I would guess you mean dragonage.exe as the linked executable?
Audio is actually my specialty, so I won't really have a problem with it.

This is excellent. Thank you for this info. I might or might not use it om this case, but it is an excellent option to consider if regardles of what I end up doing.  (I really really really like that shot (panning) in the pic in this thread, and would hate to trash it. Also there are several others like it)

Ahh,,space ships..well...
I was also afraid of entering the realm of kitschyness with veils, etc. especially since they were not common in corresponding times as far as I understand it. It would give it a more modern look.

yes. right click/properties the link at your desktop and add those commands to the target path (the place where the da:o.exe is stored). damn, i am lacking the right words to explain it well :P

Wikipedia indicates that we were using veils of one sort of another from around 1300BC and wedding veils since at least Roman times, so I think it's probably acceptable for them to appear in a medieval-esque fantasy setting.

so is this what I need to attach to the link? (Do I need commas?)

"E:\\game\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe" -runcutscene=HNF_wedding.cut -forcehighres -fpsoverride=29.95 -disablegui -capturemovie=movie_test -nowarningpopup -autologin=single player

Or do I need to run this batch file with a text file that has the cutscene name in it?

@ECHO OFF

cd C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\

SET INPUT=da_cins.txt

for /f "tokens=1 delims=" %%a in (%INPUT%) do (
dragonage.exe -runcutscene=%%a -forcehighres -fpsoverride=30 -capturemovie=%%a -nowarningpopup -autologin=single player
)

echo COMPLETE

pause

Wow, that's news for me. I hadn't really looked into that, but this might change things. Thank you for that.

it should work with both, although i never tried it with a batch file :D
with the batch file remember to add the name of your cutscene to the txt file.

any ideas regarding commas spaces between commands (in the linked .exe version)? I heard that I can really botch up the game if I do something like this incorrectly.

Edit: I see that the batch file actually has all those choices I made from the Wiki, so I probably won't need to use the linked exe version. Still it seems safer though.

never use commas, just a "space bar" is enough. you can't botch up software this way. if the commands are not supported then it simply won't work and you can edit the link back.

Thank you all very very much for all of your help. I have a lot to think about now :)
