I've just wrapped up my Origins campaign as a 2H Human Noble Warrior.  I followed the advice mentioned in these forums and he became an absolute monster!  By far the most fun I've had in DA thus far.

I'm a bit lost as to what direction I should be going in Awakenings.  Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, I haven't seen much mention of Awakening builds.

I had 4 skill pts left over at the end of Origins and put them all into the new 2H line.  Was this a good idea?

What skills are good in Awakenings?  How's the new Warrior line?

Any advice/suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

P.S.  I wasn't sure where this belonged so please ignor if this should be in the Awakenings Gameplay forum.

I recently fell in love with 2handers.

Sweeping Strike doesn't work correctly; the cone template doesn't appear under certain circumstances. But, at the very least, it's a free crit with a 10 second cooldown. I spam it like crazy and so should you.

2 Handed Impact is basically useless as it drains stamina constantly, but only rarely gets a shockwave. Don't bother using it.

Onslaught and Reaving Storm are only useful in certain situations. Onslaught is good when a bunch of enemies are lined up nice and pretty, begging to be smashed. RS is very situational, when defending a choke point or hopelessly surrounded. I've only used it a handful of times.

The 2 majorly great warrior talents you want are Second Wind and Massacre. SW lets you recharge your stamina, which is obviously great. Massacre does AOE damage based on your strength and weapon damage, so as a 2 Handed warrior with (hopefully) crazy amounts of strength, your Massacre will easily clear out rooms with 400ish damage per enemy in the radius. Less for elites and bosses, though.

The other two warrior talents are Peon's Plight, which lets you one-shot a trashmob of your choosing. It's okay but not great, an extra ability to have handy. The other talent is Grievous Insult, which is like Taunt on crack; it increases threat and sometimes knocks enemies down towards you. You only want that if you're tanking.

Put your skill points into Clarity. Clarity gives you more stamina. More stamina is good.

Eventually you'll get another specialization. I picked Spirit Warrior and didn't regret it; Beyond the Fade is a sustainable that (when fully upgraded) increases defense, magic resist, gives you + attack/movement speed, and spirit damage. The only drawback is that it drains stamina.

That's just basic info plus my 2 cents, though.

Sweeping Strike's cone only appears if you are not lock-on to an enemy. Once you have selected an enemy, I know of no way to unselect them so - I classify this as a minor glitch.

Personally, I prefer the Guardian specialization over the Spirit Warrior specialization because Beyond the Veil consumes stamina rapidly (-10 stamina per 2sec) and Spirit Damage does not really help much most of the time because my maul + telekinetic weapon is already bypassing most defense.

Spirit Burst, well not enough Willpower to make it actually useful and friendly fire.

The added movement speed is welcomed by the added attack speed is not because 2H warrior dont rely on normal attacks. Spirit Damage sometimes also does less damage against mobs that have high resistant against spirit damage, I actually only use this against golems and a few selected mobs but overall I find it less useful.

Guardian I like because the 30 second armor buff allows me to close in on archers without taking much damage and allows me to run circles in the area to attract/position myself to do a Grievous Insult that will pull all enemies towards me for my Massacre.

p/s: My 2H warrior uses a CGM and Evon not Massive Armor and Vigilance.

Conclusion, you will have enough skill points to get all the new skills and as long as you have enough strength, a 2H warrior is a no-brainer.

Very detailed replies, thank you! There are a decent amount of new skills and knowing which ones are worth using helps.

I have noticed the cone attack issue. I was a bit confused as to why it wasn't working and thought I was doing something wrong.

I'm still torn on a 3rd specialization. Spirit Warrior looks very cool, but so does Guardian.

I'm still using the CGM and I typically keep Precise Striking, Powerful Swings and Indomitable active at all times.

Love the Stamina potions in Awakenings, make my 2H godly haha.

You may wish to check results w/o Powerful Swings and compare. Based on some other posts, this mode may not be as user friendly as described. I have not used it all, so I am curious, too.

Specs: Berserker, Champion and Spirit Warrior

Stats: 30Willpower, Strength Dump.

Fully-Upraded Clarity ASAP.

One thing I've learned with my Warrior was that on a Single Enemy, I didn't do nearly the damage of a DW Warrior or DW Rogue, I hit far harder, but they attacked so much faster that they outclassed me on any fight that lasted longer then 5 seconds. Where my character truly shined was against groups of enemies, its from my experience that I seemed to cut through swarms of enemies faster then even an AoE Mage. So, between the Buff from Champion, and the constant drain from Spirit Warrior (WHICH you should only use on an AoE Fight), you're a great asset to the party if you're working with another Physical Damage+Tank, and you chew up groups of enemies easily. Great fun, I loved my Warrior greatly. Sadly, I have to restart :(

Agreed,  Powerful swings is worthless  in Awakening.  And redundant.  If you feel  that you need another sustain to generate more damage, then why not use Two-Handed Impact instead?  It does more  damage and doesn't  incur attack/defense penalties.

Regardless,  there's no point in bothering with either of them.  sustained damage is not the name of the game with 2-handers in Awakening.  Burst damage is.... burst AOE damage (as someone pointed out here) is  where 2-handers rule.

Peon's Plight should be used on Elites since it does a doubled critical, and for two-handers that is a big number. Don't waste it on trash mob or bosses.

Berzerker/Champion/Templar. Learn it, live it, love it.

Not only do you not waste time waiting for spec powers, you have 4 friendly area attacks PER FIGHT.

And you will be berzerking for all of them.
