Okay, I can't seem to play this game for more than 20 minutes, before all of a sudden my screen goes black, and starts flashing annalogue/digital in the top left, no error message nothing :( this is heartbreaking, I have a feeling that its causing my graphics card to overheat, but this is the only game I have this problem with, anybody having or heard of this and any fixes i've even tried reducing graphics settings to low, despite it reccomending I play on High ? :crying: This is Heart breaking. My Rig is running ;

Win XP
Nvidia 9800 GX2 (just installed latest drivers but had same problem with unupdated drivers)
2 GB of RAM
AMD Phenom™ 9750 Quad-Core Processor 512 MB

Any Help would be Appreciated. can't belv i bought the special edition of this :( Posted Image

What brand and model power supply are you using?  What amperage is available on the 12 Volt circuits?  What temperatures are your sensitive components reaching?

Im not sure how to find the first bits of info out im afraid, if you tell me I will check it out on my Nvidia mointer its saying my Card is running @ 87 c on GPU 1 and 81 c on GPU 2, which seems rather toasty to me ? Thats after playing DAO for 20 mins, having it crash and then doing an instant reboot of my system.

You have to open the access panel on the side of the tower, and look at the label on the side of the power supply (and if that sounds too difficult, there are 'net tutorials to walk you through it, but that isn't a game problem, and is therefore not on-topic for here).

There are in-game monitors such as ATI Tools and Rivatuner that will display temperatures on the game screen, along with FPS as well, if desired.  87 Celcius is hot enough that other components, such as the CPU and the RAM, are likely to overheat as well.  Video cards are designed to withstand somewhat higher temperatures than either of those can deal with, but you normally don't want the GPUs running at 85 or more, celcius.

I am not good with computer, but would the fact that he only has 2GB of RAM combined with the memory leak problem cause this?

Think ive confirmed its heat based, don;t understand why DAO is causing the card to generate so much heat no such problem with Fallout 3 for example, my GPU's are hitting like 100C.. I don't see there being a fix other than buying some more cooling unless anyone can think of anything else ?

Several utilities, including ATI Tools, RivaTuner, and Speedfan, will readjust a video card that isn't running its fans fast enough to cool itself.  All that I have named, in spite of the "ATI" part, and the "Riva" part, are usable with any video card.

turn down the graphics, and also try latest drivers. old drivers can sometimes cause cards to function inefficiently. However it is also possible your card has bad sink contact, lack of gel or other factors that increase heat. check any card fans, as well to make sure they spin.

mine does a similar thing but it crashes in the first camp after the harrowing, I try to start the ritual and bam black screen... I can walk around for hours as long as I don't talk to the one person who starts the dialog, I am running a 3870 at lowest settings, a 430Watt, 4 gigs RAM, 3.0 intel dual, newest drivers, my video card fan is set at 75% power I have an antec 900 with 4 120mm fans (2 front 1 back 1 side) and 1 240mm fan on top...heat should not be a problem.. I think it could be the ATI drivers any ideas?

We have to know the BRAND NAME and model of your power supply.  There are a hundred bad brands, and only a dozen top quality ones, plus 6-8 borderline brands to pick and choose among their various PSU models for the better ones.  Also, even a good brand will wear out, deteriorate, over time, until it's no longer good enough.  So how old is it besides how good was it when new?

ok its an antec its about 3 years old so I am pretty sure its the v1.0 of this brand but it is this model.

you really believe the powersupply would be causing so much trouble with a game, it runs borderlands, MW2 all fine... seems like it is more of a drivers issue to me but theres the info you requested

This is the same problem I have. I am running a NVidia 9400 GT graphic card. Heat is not my issue. I have been monitoring it, My computer runs at a nice cool 60 C. So it really has to be something else.

When will you start your own message thread and include all of the pertinent data instead of tacking a dozen comments to other folks' multiple weeks old threads?

OK, small exaggeration!
