Hi

Im planning to do a full run of BG series (half through BG1 atm) but dont want  to pick up Jaheira in BG2  this time.
I always loved the harper situation involving her so if she isnt in my party where will it end? I assume Xzar will still give his little quest but  would I be summoned back to Harper hold for intergoation? would later harper attacks still come?

And if not is there in game timer for when they do appear so I could add Jaheira to the party just for the encounters?
(Planinig to just take Haer-dalis as my tank, Jan and me as mage/cleric and though I know I have ample room dont want to add anyone else)

Thanks

I can't help you on the timer thing, but the Harper events do end with Xzar's death if Jaheira isn't in your party.

If you don't romance Jaheira but have her in your party, the harpers will summon her immediately after you finish the Xzar subquest. You can wait for her to come back, fight Galvarey (if only for that ring of wizardry), then kick her out if you like. Note, however, if you kick her out at this point, she will be gone permanently.

permanently? that sucks so if I fight Galvarey and Jaheira is no longer with me no harpers will spawn to hunt me down?

Btw on slightly different note what do u suggest as main hand weapon for haer dalis for start of soa until hla kicks in ( if that would make any difference) and for tob? Was thinking of Celestial Fury?

Belm + Kundane is pretty good. When he has UAI, Scarlet Ninja-To + Belm.

There's an alternative ending to the Xzar Harper quest with the D0Questpack, I really would have liked to have done it but Jaheira turns hostile no matter what you do and I needed her for my party setup. Maybe next time ...

You can finish the Xzar quest, and then, much later on down the line, invite Jaheira to your party. Pretty much the instant she joins, the female harper NPC spawns near you and whisks Jaheira away to the Harper Hold. So, you don't have to have her in your party upon Xzar's demise. This is with G3 Fixpack, not sure if that changes anything.

Without Jaheira in your party, the poisoned harper encounter will never happen, and you will not get any access to the harper hold at all. Xzar will never appear, there will be no quests.

My apologies Matuse, but that encounter does happen. It occurred in my last BG2 game and all I had installed was the venerable Baldurdash fixpack and Ascension. (I'm aware there is a better fixpack out there.) I freed Jaheira but refused her entry into my party at Irenicus's dungeon.

You can return Renfeld to the Harper base and run Xzar's errand fine. What does not occur without Jaheira is Galvarey's invitation and the events that follow.

In the last month or so, I restarted, with different characters, close to ten times I'd guess.  Each time I solo'd and did most of the quests in the first 3 chapters.  I would always rescue Jaheira in Irenicus' Dungeon, and either immediately dismiss her, or keep her around as a pack mule til we got to Athkatla, then dismiss her.  I always got the Renfeld quest, solo.  And then got the Xzar quest as well, solo.  It's only after you return "Montaron" to Xzar that that quest line stops unless you have Jaheira in your party.

Odd, the times I've not taken Jaheira with me, this encounter hasn't ever popped up...and with her, it always DOES pop up when I first head out of town (usually to Chez Nalia).

What exactly did you do with her in Irenicus' dungeon? If you never let her out of her cell, for instance, she won't appear in the game afterwards.

So pathetic really. I mean minsc's cell is sealed shut yet he still escapes and shows up at the copper coronet.

That's because he has berzerker strength. Jaheira has um...a crummy attitude.

A related question: to succesfully romance Jaheira, is it necessary to trudge through the never-ending Harper questline until she gets Terminsel's pin?

And then you have to put up with her angst all the way thru ToB

Hmph. I think Jaheira's awesome, angst and all. What's a good romance without angst, I tell you! Image IPB

Yes, they're inextricably linked.

Easy way to fix the Terminsel pin is to just leave the game running (and unpaused) when you are asleep or at work. Since the pin is based on real time, you can't rest your way through it or anything. So just let the game run when you aren't doing anything else with it.

Or, if you don't have the patience to leave the game running for five days straight, just enter the following console command:

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("TerminselAppear","GLOBAL",1)

Terminsel should spawn automatically, provided the conditions for his appearance are met. Make sure your reputation is high enough, or he won't hand over Jaheira's pin.

The Fixpack sets the timer to one hour, though. In that case, the command isn't really necessary.

Don't you still have to have gone through all the Harper stuff up until Terminsel, though? I mean, he's not going to appear, even if you leave the game on for five days without a pause, unless Jaheira has already left and rejoined the party, been met by the druids that don't like her, etc. etc., right?

Yeah, that's what I meant by "provided the conditions for his appearance are met." The timer needs to have been initialised, otherwise the command won't have any effect.

Yes, but the Nalia mod is a little more restful on the nerves. I would equate the 3 standard romances plus Nalia as:
Viconia - a superb bitter chocolate, expresso truffle Image IPB
Jaheira - an excellent lemon tart Image IPB
Nalia -    vanilla ice cream with cherry topping Image IPB
Aerie (never had the patience to try it) - a vanilla wafer? Image IPB

That is an excellent way of putting it. Image IPB

And I must confess, I'm such a sucker for dark chocolate truffles. Image IPB

You should really play through Aerie's entire romance sometime. I'm sure you know you can get her pregnant in ToB. Some of the party banter when the baby pops out is just priceless... Ano's reaction is particularly hilarious. Image IPB
