Does Thedas have sign language? A Tal-Vashoth escaped mage could still possibly communicate without a tongue. Of course, it would be shown as text, so the player wouldn't have to know sign language personally. Just say Hawke picked it up somewhere.
Not that I don't enjoy reading OR that I don't use subtitles from time to time, but I could see plenty of gamers not really liking to have a companion (much less a romance) that was completely silent. The creators are very...creative...so they could make it work in small instances if we ever meet a saarebas, but keywords would be small instances.
*snip*"Sign language for the deaf was first systematized in France during the 18th century."*snip*
Not to detrack from our Qunari ideas and dreams, but what century would our medival-England-inspired Thedas be in?
Anyone else have any banner ideas they want cooked up?

As I researched earlier, not all saarebas have their tongues cut out--only those that preform forbidden magic, which is any magic not commanded by their keeper.

Anyways, I've drawn up a little something for the male qunari fans here, nothing too glamourous, but I had fun drawing it.
Darn, if only we get a confirmation of a qunari ally, hahaha... But do keep discussing, I enjoy reading everyones posts here!

Hi there! Just wanted to say that I've been very intrigued reading all the posts here regarding a male Qunari romance, I'm a lurker around the DA forums, but with DA2 coming next year, I've been interested to join in

That may be the cutest thing I have ever seen. The stick is my favorite part.
Lady Hawke: *Poke poke* Hey, talk to me.
Qunari LI: NO.

It's okay, we have our red hot pokers ready. We came prepared.

It was too interesting not to comment! I am REALLY hoping for qunari male LI. Even if it ain't gonna happen, I'd probably be happy having a Qunari companion where we can tease like Sten!

I think one where the Qunari is poking her back, with a small "Sten smirk" would be neat! Or maybe when where she is on his shouders, between the horns obviously, smiling. Those would be real sweet, but whatever you make would be awesome to see!

Well, I think it could be interesting to meet one who did have his tongue cut out, though.

I don't think it's supposed to have an exact equivalent, really. I wonder, how do the Silent Sisters communicate, though? The one we met in Orzammar had that other woman with her to "translate" or such, but she didn't really sign. She just kind of looked at you funny.

It would be interesting, but probably impractical, especially if we're talking about companions. Interacting with the recruitable characters is part of what makes BioWare RPGs so much fun, and the interaction available for a mute character would be pretty small in scope. I doubt they're going to go with the sign language route someone brought up earlier.
Speaking of interaction, I really hope that the party banter from DA:O is back.

Well this all hinges on something rather unrelated, as I wouldn't want a companion I couldn't communicate with either... but that's not what I'm talking about, though.MarginalBeast wrote...

Why not?I doubt they're going to go with the sign language route someone brought up earlier.
I mean, it doesn't even have to be sign language... it could be something like this. I mean, these are mages we're talking about here. Maybe it's a crafty one, found a way around their attempt to stop him from communicating.

I read a fanfiction piece that was actually really good, that had a Qunari mage that spoke telepathically, but didn't use the gift because it would reveal that their mages could still communicate or be an influence. Something like that could work if the team wanted to implement something to that effect. So much of the Qunari people is unknown, it would be a shame to have these new designs and enemies without a companion...or more than a companion!

I'd even go through the game with Lady Hawke though intended to take Garret first.
Besides, I don't see a reason why Tal'Vashoth who are supposed to abandon Qun should care about love=/=mating thing. A position like "I denay this but stay with that" just doesn't make any sense to me )))

A Qunari will only Have Sex(Mate) to Produce Children Any Qunari Who Has Sex(Mates) Because They Have Feelings For Another Person. The Arishok will Bring Them To be Thought That its Wrong To have sex (Mate) Because Of Feelings. But A Tal'Vashoth Could Have a Romance with Someone Because They Left The Qun.Astfgl wrote...
I'd love to have a Qunari/Tal'vashoth as LI. Sten was really great, and it was a pity he just stood there and talked to kadan a bit about Qun, or teased Morrigan (the last time that dialogue happened quite often, so I was damn jealous).

Would a Tal'Vashoth go by it's original given title under the Qun or would they forge themselves a new name, I wonder?

I wonder if a Qunari has a name after it becomes a Tal'Vashoth? We know that Sten's name isn't so much his actually name, in our sense of the word, as it is his title.

They get a name. Go to the Pearl where you meet Paedan who's been setting a trap for GW. He'll refer to "Shaevra, Tennant, Jarvy". There's him, an elf (Shaevra), and two Tal-Vashoth.
Is Jarvy a lulzy name for a qunari? Oh yeah.
