They get a name. Go to the Pearl where you meet Paedan who's been setting a trap for GW. He'll refer to "Shaevra, Tennant, Jarvy". There's him, an elf (Shaevra), and two Tal-Vashoth.

Armaas, the Tal'Vashoth merchant from Awakening, has a name too.  I wonder what they base their choice of name on?  Or if they even choose it themselves.  Jarvy seems a bit... well, let's just say it's not the name I would have chosen.

I'm gonna have to play the game through again, I don't remember those Tal'Vashoth in the Pearl. Perhaps they simply base their new names/titles on what sounds appealing, rather than what it entitles. A risky way of picking, if that's what it comes down to!

So I suppose it would be safe to assume that Armaas is in fact a name he chose for himself, considering he's a Tal'Vashoth and doesn't like being called a Qunari. Is there dialogue in which he states he made his name? Because it still sounds very...qunari to me.

Yes very. I would have expected something more...exotic. "I am called Jarvy of the Qunari people." Just doesnt have a certain ring to it. But I am tempted to play through the pearl again just for that! Now, why wasn't there any Tal-Vashoth companion for you to pick in the pearl I wonder? Would have been lulzy just to hear him say "..follow me *insert ero voice here*"

Guys, I think we have to bear in mind, whatever the love interest, whether he is a horned Qunari or a female Darkspawn Broodmother, he/she needs to be well written with a strong character, as mentioned by Zan Mura. Hell, if there had been a Dwarf LI in DAO, I would gladly have romanced her, despite not finding female dwarves attractive. Think about it. Morrigan is easily the ****iest LI ever written, probably more so than even Viconia of Baldur's Gate 2 fame. But because she was well written, I romanced her anyway.



But back to the topic of this thread, I'll gladly support a female Qunari, if Bioware actually dedicates the time to design one instead of using lore excuse to make sure we don't see one. Have anyone of you realised we have yet to see a female Salarian or Turian? Attractiveness aside, Bioware didn't bother to design and convenienntly used lore to explain that they are not seen outside of household duties. (for Salarians anyway).



In regards to Qunari culture, it'll probably unlikely we see a female Qunari as according to Sten, female Qunari just aren't allowed to be warriors according to their Qun. If there is one, she'll have to be a renegade and therefore, lose the Qun fanatic attitude we all loved in Sten.

Speaking of Sten, I wonder if we'll see any Qunari in DA2 with his skin color, horned or not. I certainly hope so. Diversity is nice.

Sarcasm aside, yes, people complain about that all the time (understandably so). I personally think that the lack of turian females in the Mass Effect series is much worse than the lack of Qunari females in the Dragon Age series, but that's me.

I'd say it's more than unlikely. Gaider and Kirby flat-out said that we wouldn't be seeing any in DA2. Disappointing, but that's the way it is I suppose.

No their right, I don't want a Qunari companion that has any depth. He just needs to give one word answers and maybe a simply grunt of agreement that he wants Lady Hawke... 
Seriously though, just like Beast said, no one said they wanted a poorly executed Qunari companion. While I'd love to have said companion/romance, if it wasn't written for literacy's sake, then nevermind don't do it.

Who else Thinks This Thread is Awesome

It'd be even more awesome if David or Mary came and discussed it with us. Not so much spoil the fact that there will or won't be a companion/romance for the Qunari, but simply to talk to us about how it'd be executed and certain tidbits of Qunari/Tal'Vashoth workings.

Quite true - I was surprised to find that Sten's companions were much less taciturn and dour than I had expected them to be. The complaints they had about the bread, etc. certainly made them seem - how to put this - like they were normal guys. I just wish we'd found out what Sten's real name was, grr, but I guess we'll never know (short of bribing one of the writers).

They are, but according to...Mary, I think, it's more like a SSN than a personal sobriquet. Used to identify who they are. It's not what a qunari imagines themselves to be--they are identified by job.

I have to wonder, though, what do they call children? Just "child"? Seems inefficient.
