Will an area effect, holy/divine spell break items in treasure chests the same way a fireball will?  I think the spell I was looking at was sunburst.

Will vendors restock their gems?  After how much time?  I don't recall seeing an in-game time of day anywhere.

When you talk or trade with any NPC, does it check only the player character's skills or does it use the score of the companion that initiated the conversation?  My guess is that only the PC skills matter for bluff, appraise, diplomacy, intimidate.

If I allowed the fence to sell items in the player town, is there any way to get rid of him later?  I was thinking I might sell a very large stack of gold rings I stole but that might make the rest of the game too easy.

Is spell resistance a percentage chance of not being affected by a spell at all?

- Yes, any spell that causes damage in a radius can destroy chests. There are a handful of spells such as the Missile Storms and Firebrand that only target hostiles. I think Sunburst may be one of these, but I'm not positive.

- Unfortunately I don't think they do. There are a finite number of gems available in the campaign.

- The PC's skills are checked. Sad to say it's pointless to raise social skills and Appraise on an NPC.

- Spell Resistance is like armor class against magic. A spellcaster rolls caster level + 1d20 + Spell Penetration feats, if applicable. Only levels in a casting class count toward caster level, so a wizard10/rogue1 casts her spells as a tenth level wizard, not eleventh.

If your character had, for example, a spell resistance rating of 27 this same wizard10/rogue1 would need to roll a 17 on 1d20 for their spell to work. Anything less and it would be resisted. If the same wizard had Spell Penetration, only a 15 would be required, and so on...

This is something I addressed in the OC Makeover SoZ Edition available in the vault. The Makeover allows the party members to speak with most (not all) NPC's so you are not forced to put conversation skill points on your main PC.

Deekin is the only vendor that changes his stock, and only when/if he moves to your Keep.

If you build the Monastery in lieu of the Church, the vendor has unlimited Rogue Stones.  Unlike you monkify Khelgar, the Monastery is otherwise pretty useless.

Chests and such are often sort-of random in their booty.  Some might have 3-5 low-level scrolls.  Some might have miscellaneous ammunition.  Some might have gold or gems within a value range.

If it is a low-level chest, it might not be worth your time to save and reload.  However, if you are looking for particular spell types (i.e. anything that kills undead), or a particular gem (i.e. Blue Diamond), the higher level chests are worth a spot of time.  I always save before peeking because I don't know what sort of chest it is until it is opened.  After a while you'll recognize the patterns... that is why I said "sort-of random".

If you are crafting, you only need a couple of King's Tears (Robe of the Archmagi and Belt of STR 8).  Blue Diamonds and Beljurils and Star Sapphires and Emeralds are far more useful and flexible.

As to your fence... once there, he stays planted.  He is one of 4 fences in the game.  They do not all give you the same bonus on your sales.  I think his is 3.3 times the stated price (at my high Appraisal), whereas Yask in Port Lhast gives me 5.5 his offered price.  With fences as with regular merchants, it pays to shop around.:bandit:  Because merchants have a limit such as 10,000gp or 15,000gp per transaction, don't sell your rings all in one trade, but split them into stacks of 20 or 30.

Since you need more than 3/4 million gp to rebuild the Keep and properly outfit your men, getting a bit of it from your fence doesn't really make the game easier.  You will be selling lots of stuff, anyway.
