I think people are overlooking the awesome that I predicted this 3 days ago!

:D

Also Welves is now the proper term for Welsh Elves.

I'm hoping for a Dalish elf companion voiced by Rhod Gilbert

Probably the same reason why the rich and the poor have different accents. Education, travel, the people they interact with, their own self-esteem (judges small things like how loud their voice are and how fast they speak), etc...;)

I find the disparity between an English accent and an American accent to be a bit larger than that between that of a rich and poor person who come from the same region. Additionally, that doesn't account for elves like Iona who are -- socially -- in much higher positions than certain humans, despite ultimately being servile.

Never forget
Gwyneth Platrow, Rene Zellweger

I see your Zellweger and raise you Aribeth!

I give you Keanu Reeves

By the gods! He sounds like some of those terrible, terrible audiobook VAs. Image IPB
I'd rather have Reeves do his natural accent. Monotone.

I agree with you.  Though us American's are the worst offenders, we have a long standing history of poorly done accents. :(

To be absolutely fair, most movies we see come from Hollywood, and most actors there are American. There's not a whole lot of room for British people trying to do American accents.

Nicole Kidman's American is plain terrible. Why does she think we all talk with breathy Marilyn Monroe voices?

...Well...you didn't. You predicted that Kirkwall...ers would have Welsh accents. They don't.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

Frankie Boyle as a racist Human noble - wouldn't be a stretch for him.

Also, just because you mentioned QI; DA2 needs Stephen Fry!

I've seen some really awful American accents from some British shows. :pinched:  Why casting directors pick who they do is a complete mystery.

Stephen Fry has done games before Fable 2 anyone?

Dara O'Brien would be great. More Irish accents in general really. Then again they'd probably end up as stereotypes.

Most actors in Hollywood are American. Still stands true. Most British actors need to be able to do a decent American if they want to work in Hollywood because they're using American accents on an American audience. There are more American films out there that are distributed to wider audiences than British films, so you're going to hear Americans put on bad accents more often.

Anyhow, here's a list for you for the fun. There's other "Fake Accent" ones, too, if you want to find them. They're not necessarily bad accents, just Fake Americans.

La Point:

It has nothing specifically to do with nationality making their accents terrible.

Which is why I blame casting and actors equity.  <_<

If Lady Hawke has a french (Orlesian in-game) Accent I won't buy the game. I have nothing against the French (other than the fact that they are completely rude in the Paris airport) but I cannot stand to listen to their accent for very long. Poor Leliana is almost never in my party because of this. After playing her DLC I came to appreciate her a bit more and even romanced her with my mage but I would HATE to have my character sound like that...

I don't mind any accents showing up personally. Thedas is supposed to be a fantasy interpretation of earth so there would be many different accents and languages. For my characters I tend to choose accents depending on what kind of personality I intend to play them as.

Why change the Dalish accent?

Wtf!

Okay, well. Uh. What. Huh. I... what.

I mean I watch Taggart. I know welsh accents can be badass, but they are primarily... uh, not.

edit: Namea can we not be a douchebag to french people. Thanks.

I want Frankie Boyle ad-libbing in a video game SO BAD NOW you have no idea

Can you picture the aftermath? I can. And you thought there was a big controversy over the Mass Effect "one-second-of-bare-arse" sex scene...

Why would Lady Hawke have an Orlesian accent? She was born and bred in Ferelden.

I think any accent can be dreamy, provided that an actor gives a good performance and doesn't have an annoying voice.

Considering that Hawke is a native of Lothering, there is no reason to worry about him/her having a French accent. Salut.
