You're not alone. I didn't understand it either.

Oh, yes. Rob Brydon companion, thanks.

Though I am still baffled as to why you would suddenly change an accent when it's already been established.

Maybe they wanted them to sound more distinctive... Or it gave them an excuse to hire John Rhys Davies:P j/k  Srsly though I know I wouldn't ignore Sorel if he had a Welsh accent.

Yes, but changing an accent when it's already been established as another is jarring to me.

The vast majority of the accents in DAO are authentic. If someone assumes they are not, that's probably because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Image IPB

Reminds me of a guy on youtube. A Brit,he put on a fake American accent, then pretended he was an american testing a fake british accent.

Everybody said it [the real accent] sounded fake.

I would like to have a choice between different (and varied) accents for Hawke. It would make up for being stuck playing as a human.

If you can't do it in the initial release (because it would take alot of recording to do every line in every accent), you could release new accents in update patches... or DLC (although I'd prefer not to have to pay for it).

Re. Lucy: Perhaps, but I think it's less jarring than having American accents when most Fereldens have British ones. I don't think American accents really work in fantasy settings in the first place. Besides, the Dalish in DA2 might come from a different part of Ferelden than we travelled through in DAO.

BTW, Taggart is a Scottish programme (Glaswegian to be exact, like myself) not Welsh :)

I think the American-Canadian relationship is similar to the Aussie-Kiwi one. Or maybe I have no idea.

No, that's very true. Calling a Canadian an American is pretty similar to calling a New Zealander an Australian. Except that we'll be much more quietly offended and will apologize to the wall when we bump into it after spinning on our heel to angrily storm off.

That is one of the best responses I have heard on that in a very long time! I had a friend in College who was from Canada and she used to get really mad when people called her American.

I just read the "BioWare" version of the thread (where you click the BioWare image and see only replies by BW staff), then went to the normal one to make some reference to Rob Brydon and of course someone already did. :)

I think it's a cool change. Yeah it'll be a bit jarring, but honestly I always thought it a bit weird that the Dalish sounded the same as City Elves and Dwarves for that matter. But most of all I'm just a huge anglophile, and it combines with my interest in linguistics when it comes to accents. I like mentally pointing out what accents I can, though it's hardly conducive to immersion.

Aww, while it's awesome that it's going sort of celtic with the welsh.. the Dalish have just lost any semblance of credibility for me, they'll just have to be comic relief for me.

I know that.

They have visited Wales a few times in the show. I made a vague remark. I don't know of any welsh crime shows, so. Or am I thinking Midsomer Murders of where they visit Wales? I must be thinking of Midsomer Murders. I distinctly recall one of my crime shows where they visit Wales... it was one of the really popular episodes... eeeeehhhhehfuhro;gbo

In any case, I do know it's Scottish. I really hate to be corrected like that. Australians still know their Brits, thanks.

I do think american english works in fantasy setting, at least it didn't bother me ;).

Also not all Dalish come from Fereldan anyway and therefore don't have to have any connection to a "fereldan" accent, specifically as picking up an accent means actually living in close proximity to a large group speaking a specific accent.
So that doesn't really fit the Dalish as they seem to try to avoid a too prolonged contact with humans on a general basis. Now if City Elves or the odd "free" Dalish Elve (freed city elf) would have it then it might be different, but I would rather think it odd as a general rule.

Don't you mean this wo-MAAAHN?

Honestly, the woman version is nastier. "Who ees zees WO-MAAHN, TEE-GAAHN?" She says it so spitefully. I was actually convinced it was because she was cheating on Eamon with Teagan and she was jealous.

What's there to be convinced about. I always thought it was blatently obvious that she was getting it from the Banhammer.

I would hate it if somebody confused me with a Kiwi.
I mean we don't even sound the same.

Still English accents for the most part, though we do still use American accents (as in the midwest Amercian accent) for the City Elves and Dwarves and French accents for the Orlesians. We're using a different accent for the Dalish now (why? because we want to) but otherwise nothing drastic.

Can you specify what accent the dalish now use?

Welsh, primarily.

Wait... I don't get it. Wouldn't it be more logical to have the City Elves speak with a Welsh accent and have the Dalish speak with American accent?

Do the other city folk also have American accents?

P.S. No, I don't have that accent. People mistake me for an Italian usually.

Yay! I am Belarussian, though people often confuse me for Finn with New York accent, lmao!

Seemed like an odd choice but I guess it makes a certain sense given the celtic link. Visiting Wales often makes me think of its mystic, celtic and druidic past - old groves and standing stones etc. Also historically known as skilled bowmen. Not sure if the accent would have those connotations for others, but still seems fitting. Nice one, boyo.

Well, I'm fine with the Dalish getting an accent of their own, but now it actually bothers me that (non-foreign) city elves don't share an accent with the human residents of their respective settlements.

Funny how close we are as humans but miles away on understanding each other, I don't see that ever taking place and somthing as simple as a voice can be used to make one here, hate the one over there.

I'am a American, of Irish/English background and I still don't know why Canadian people hate American's so much and don't give me the same old line "Americans think they are better then all"...to much hate in the world for moot things.
