There are indeed many English accents. For voiceover purposes we use what is called RP (Received Pronunciation) unless we are going for a specific sound like cockney or West Country.
West Country FTW

I think the American-Canadian relationship is similar to the Aussie-Kiwi one. Or maybe I have no idea.
No, that's very true. Calling a Canadian an American is pretty similar to calling a New Zealander an Australian. Except that we'll be much more quietly offended and will apologize to the wall when we bump into it after spinning on our heel to angrily storm off.
That made me LOL so hard...
I still think it's funny that people accuse Leliana's accent of being fake.
Will the Qunari have a different accent in DA2? Seems as though at the moment there is quite a bit of midwest American floating around.

Inferiority complex.

Speaking of accents in Ferelden, was it ever explained where the Crimson Oars in Denerim were from? They bug the hell out of me everytime I hear them. Are they Avvars? Free Marchers? Nevarrans? Nugs wearing complex biomechanical humanoid suits?

Still English accents for the most part.
I mistakenly read this as "Silly English accents for the most part," and you were much cooler than usual for a brief second.

Well, I'm fine with the Dalish getting an accent of their own, but now it actually bothers me that (non-foreign) city elves don't share an accent with the human residents of their respective settlements.
Yeah... And remember, we're talking about hundreds of years of "co-existence".
A bearded guy demonstrating different Welsh accents on YouTube. Before I didn't really know what a Welsh accent sounded like, but I suspected it couldn't be astronomically different from British accents (if that makes any sense at all, it's a rather ambiguous subject), so now I'm ASTONISHED! THEY DID DIS ARSE-BACKWARDS!
Why?!
Because they CAN!

The extent of Welsh accents I've heard are from Doctor Who and Torchwood, but they sound nice to me.

Funny, but no. It's about misidentification. That's primarily where the insult comes from. To us, Canadian and American cultures and our accents are so different in a lot of ways, it feels like you're being categorized into something you're not. It bothers some people, and it doesn't bother others. The Aussies/Kiwis example was actually quite perfect. Maybe try looking it this way- people don't appreciate being labeled as something we're not, weather is e out of a sense of national pride, a desire for accuracy, or not wanting to discuss foreign policy with people.

Spoken like someone who has never been exposed to a vast majority of the variety apparent in human culture, or studied the topic at all, preferring to rely entirely on heavily biased gathering of observational "evidence."
But seriously, why do the Crimson Oars have an accent that appears no where else in the entire game?!

many people seem to think accents sound "fake" even when they're completely authentic. Why, I don't know.
You know what it might be with Corinne Kempa -- she authentically has an accent that reflects a mixed background, just like Leliana -- and that means her accent shifts a bit from scene to scene -- authentically, but confusingly.
I do this myself. I've been in America since I was a kid, but sometimes, completely without noticing it, I start Englishifying, and people tell me it sounds incredibly affected and fake -- because my English accent isn't a completely consistent English accent anymore. If I try to sound English, I don't even know where to begin other than Monty Python records. When I'm not paying attention it sort of cuts in and out until people start to look at me askance and I'm all "Oh god, I'm doing the voice, aren't I?"
So maybe that's also the reason at least in Corrine Kempa's case. Anyway, she was delightful, and the character's various assumed half-real personas (nun/spy/space-case/etc) meant that coming across as a little affected fit who she was perfectly.
