Thats true Crjans, their post is really confusing as too how its going to work. I wasn't thinking right last night.

The thing about that pack is the molded parts look great and the fabric parts look horrible.

I ordered the Dead Space backpack, it was 40 bucks now as a deposit and 68 bucks later. The good news is you get a tshirt and 3 exclusive lithographs with it, which will hopefully attract more attention to the Visceral store.

I shouldn't say that their listing in the Visceral store is very confusing because its not that bad but for some reason last night I was under the impression that you put down $40 now and when it release they take off $40. So if its $108 you already put down $40 so $68 upon release, then they take off $40 which would be $28 but that is WRONG! lol please don't get confused by my jibberish.  Like I said before I just wasn't thinking right last night.

You put down $40 now and get the bonus items, then on release they charge you $68.

I agree with other posters, the chest piece on a backpack concept does look a bit weird and wrong. Something a bit more conceptual, or based on the back of the N7 armour - that nice armoured vertebral looking section would be better in my opinion. Also - definitely needs good quality thick padded straps (perhaps with a little utility pouch type thing on one of them), backpacks with thin uncomfy straps that feel like the stitching will give way any minute are just awful.

We just got the first prototype yesterday and it I thought it looked good. Its a the armor is a little more understated then on the cad. I holds a 17 inch laptop. There are some adjustments, but overall a good start.

One question for the group. What color would you and the inside to be?

Thanks

Something simple I guess. Gunmetal, black, whatever. Depends on the material. I'm not super enthused, but good to know what size laptop it would fit since I'd probably use it for that if I ended up buying it ... Then again, a hard N7 laptop case with a similar armor-inspired design (red stripe and all) would be pretty awesome to have. I'm not huge on backpacks, but I like the concept.

Edit: The more I go back and look at this backpack, the more I want a laptop case. Am I missing something? It seems like one should definitely exist and would probably sell better than a backpack. Then again, who knows ... Maybe I'm alone here. Either way, I really want one!

i'm personally not a fan of black on the inside of backpacks- its like a bottomless pit! *weirdo-hat-on*

but i don't mind all to much. just not something super bright(red)

can you give us prototype pictures? :D?

Yea I'm with Slim. A nice deep red on the inside always makes things like that bit more awesome.

I would third the Deep Red suggestion. Gunmetal or something like that would be my second choice. Just as long as it fits well with the rest of the pack, and it's not black.

An official Mass Effect backpack would kick some a**! I would definitiely buy one but at 200 bucks tops. However, there are a few crucial elements:

1. Comfort - the backpack may look like straight from H.R.Gigger's smithy, making me ready to hunt some Predators, but if it isn't suspended properly, it's just not worth it. Curved shoulder straps, shoulder paddings and proper surface contact with your back are a must. Everything else is just pretty useless - after all I'm not wearing body armour to prevent skin lesions.

2. Functionality - a good backpack nowadays, from a student's point of view, needs a lot of designed storage space. There should be at least one slick side pocket (for a good old bottle of liquid crystal or a small umbrella), a large front compartment with slots for keys, writing utensils and small devices like PDA's (as known from messenger bags) and an obvious owner's tag with a transparent window (Samsonite experimented with retractable owner's tags, an idea which backfired, since no-one came up with the idea, that the little hidden leather nipple was indeed retractable).

I also consider earphone holes a nice addition. There should be a nicely padded double wall inside, since a lot of people carry laptops and netbooks around. And, what I love having while en-route in a crowded bus, would be a softly padded upper grip, so that I could conveniently carry the backpack like a suitcase every now and then. It's elegant as opposed to knocking over the peeps behind.

3. Eye-catching design - To me there is no point in buying something game-related, if one can't see it at the first glance. I love the idea of Deep Space backpack. It practically screams at you the following message "I ain't your regular trekker, mate" :D The shoulder straps are horrible there however, and the colours used are hard to combine with anything one would actually wear :D

The outside should resemble Mass Effect body armour, but wearing my ABS backwards won't do the trick. I think going for simplicity might work well here. One could just adapt the original human body armour design and transfer the sight from dorsal (the back) onto the backpack.

Molded in black or graphite, with intense (maybe even fluorescent!) red, green, white or blue outlines to make it stick out and night-trekker friendly.

I would love the possibility of modyfing the backpack - why not add a replaceable logo? Some people would fraction up with Cerberus, some with N7, some with the Citadel...

I would totally go for a colourful interior... Either warm or at least brighter. Too many backpacks are pitch black inside. Adding some red or bright toxic green actually makes it easier to find things inside. Whatever the chosen colour, it should correspond to the outline colour on the outside. I've seen neat backpacks with orange highlights I got fascinated by, only in order to get turned off by the purple inlay of unknown origin...

Here some examples (not carrying about the copyright, since it's a closed forum after all).

GREAT STRAPS, GREAT GRIP/HANDLE, TOP BACK PADDING:

Keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to see a decent mass effect backpack actually happening :D

Another vote for a deep red interior. I hate losing stuff at the bottom of a bag... colored interior lining is awesome.
