Hi guys.
I'm not a modder, I just don't have the patience, aptitude or ability. However, I have used mods for games such as BG2, the Total War series (etc) and have a lot of respect for the modding community. As such, I've come to ask that you consider a few mods to kick off what will hopefully become a torrent of excellent third party content for DA:O.
---Level 1 NPC Mod--- An old favourite from BG2 - when you meet a NPC they are given XP requisite to the scaled level of the game (i.e. CHARNAME +/-) but are level 1. The player then levels up the character's skills to their taste. You can then put right blatant wrongs (Morrigan's lack of a healing spell, the chance to switch fighting styles for warriors and so on).

---Unlimited Stackable Items--- Am dreaming of someone making the "Ease of Use" a la Wes Weimer for DA:O.

---Archery and Rogue re-balancing--- Archery is gimped, rogues are sub-optimal compared to the other classes... you are the guys who can change that, legions of DA fans await with baited breath!

These are just a few. I don't know a great deal about the toolset, are these achievable mods for folks to practice on?

Again, thanks to all the builders, your efforts are appreciated in the gaming community.

Regards - Filton K

All of these things are pretty good ideas and most of them seem pretty simple to do (although I am still learning the toolset so I am not totally sure). However the re-balancing thing is a very big thing. Even if you are not a modder you can help a great deal with thinking up ways in which they could be fixed. It is easier to actually make the changes than knowing WHAT to change. Rather than saying that they need to balanced it would be more helpful to say that ability X needs to have its damage increased by 5 points.

Anyway I am interested in doing things like this but it will be a while before I am proficient enough with the toolset to be able to do so. Possibly someone else can do it quicker. But, like I said, you can help speed up the process by starting discussions about exactly what needs to be changed. The more specific the better.

Thanks, I will find a post by another guy who did a really in-depth analysis of why the rogue is so gimped (which turns on the fact that rogues need four prime stats to meet the efficacy of the warrior but don't have the necessary points to be equitable). I will find it.

Another thing --- lock-picking as a cross-class skill. Even if you do it like 3E D&D (i.e. a cross class skill costs 2 points rather than 1) would eliminate the need to take either of the canonical rogues (both suffer from the gimped class and die too much!).
