Apparently there was a tip that Mass Effect 3 will be announced this October.

http://gamrconnect.v...d.php?id=115781

Yes it is a rumor currently, but so was the PS3 announcement of Mass 2. And we all know how that turned out.

But this rumor isn't the only thing that got me thinking it could possibly happen.

"potentially larger packs that tell a big portion of the story. And we want to do that in a way that connects 'Mass Effect 2' to 'Mass Effect 3.' I think we'll be pretty close to the release of 'Mass Effect 3' before we really start focusing on that as the next story."

This quote claims that the bridging content will be released pretty close to the release of Mass 3.
Bioware claimed that the LoTSB DLC was the beginning of story bridging content. If that's the case, then are we near the release of Mass Effect 3? Now I know Mass 3 just released January, but a late 2011 release date is possible.  If that's so, it would be reasonable to hear an announcement of Mass 3 some time this year. Possibly October like the tipster claimed.

More quotes from the article include:

"We're already working on 'Mass Effect 3' right now. We do want to develop it in concert with listening to the way people are experiencing 'Mass Effect 2'. We've got a lot of DLC coming out for 'Mass Effect 2' that we're also working on, and then we'll kind of blend that into developing and finishing 'Mass Effect 3'. We don't want to take forever with it. We want people to be able to conclude this trilogy that have been with us over the years... [Development will be] along the same kind of time frame as 'Mass Effect 2'."

So here we have some sources that could help us estimate the release of Mass 3, and also when it could possibly be announced. Now seeing how the PS3 announcement rumor ended up coming true, I'm not exactly going to disregard this rumor, especially with the proximity in time with the release of the first bridging content.

I hope the set it for late 2011 and they make it very polished and very long. ME1 I use to take around 25h to complete the story with all the side-quests, ME2, around 37h with all the DLCs released until now and all side-quests, so I hope I take around 45h or more to complete ME3 xD

"[Development will be] along the same kind of time frame as 'Mass Effect 2'." Doesn't that mean it will be another 3 years?

Should be later 2011 early 2012.

I hope it takes longer. Bioware just take your time and make it amazing. Please.

Could change really, ME2 only took a long time because of the major change in the gameplay, that will not be the case with ME3. They are focusing on the wirting, where the gameplay will be the same with some minor tweaking.

First game came out in '08 thats a 2 year gap. early 2012 would fit for ME3.

I seem to recall a developer saying that the development cycle will be shorter for ME3. I don't remember where or when this was said though.

ME:1 was actually in 2007 not in 2008, I received ME:1 when it first came out. That were 3 years ago or will be from October-November.

the things that takes more time to make a game, (for me) is the engine and the gameplay, these two things they've got already covered , so I don't think that the development will be more than 2 years (probably less)

Ah, I just remembered something:

Bioware, if you are going to release a teaser trailer soon, PLEASE DON'T PUT SPOILERS IN IT like you did with ME2 trailers. I really hated seeing the Normandy being destroyed already expecting it to happen... I don't want to see a jaw-dropping moment from ME3 before playing the game.

There was a 26-month gap between ME1 & 2 if we want to be precise. If ME3 will take less time then the very end of 2011 or early 2012 is believable.

I'm torn about this, to be honest. On the one hand I want them to really take their time and make the final entry perfect, but I'm so addicted to Mass Effect that I can hardly wait for the next game (DLCs are keeping me sane for the moment).

I guess all we can do is trust Bioware and so far they haven't dropped the ball, at least in my humble opinion.

That's what I thought too, but then I read what Bioware said. They aren't boosting the graphics but Christina Norman said the team is updating the mechanics.

I would punch kittens while wearing puppies as boxing gloves if I could get my hands on Mass Effect 3 now.

That being said, it was ~ 2 years and 2 months from the release of ME1 when ME2 was released. Which, given a similar time line would put as at late March 2012. But as kraidy and El Chala said, the jump in gameplay from 2 to 3 isn't expected to be as drastic as it was from 1 to 2, so a late 2011 release does seem plausible.

As I said they will be tweaking, but nothing major like ME to ME2. Remember, this is not the DAO team, the mE team is good at finding bugs ;)

This.

The 'official announcement' of ME3 has been teased a lot by Bioware since Gamescom ( "That'd be a good guess, but we haven't announced any details on any future formats or anything -- or even formally announced Mass Effect 3 yet." ).

I would really like to know their timetable on DLC releases, though. (And how the PS3 version is going to impact them).

As long as they keep us updated. Take as long as you need Bioware. Blow me away.

It's just a rumor though. ME3 couldn't have possibly been made or completed enough for BW to announce it. ME3 is still a long way from being officially shown to the public.

I don't think ME3 will come out in 2011, Bioware already has Swtor, and DA2 coming out, why would they push to release all their major ip's in the same year? It would make more sense if they left it to early 2012.

However, Dragon Age and ME2 only had two months between their release dates

I hope not, too many great games already being released this fall and early next year. I hope Bioware takes thier time with ME3 and focuses on bridging the story between ME2 and ME3 through more incredibly well done dlc.

It won't sacrifice quality at all. They already have the foundational assets from Mass 1 and 2. They're not reinventing the combat at all, so they can focus on story more than having to create assets for 12 new squadmates, or a whole range of new planets. They've already optimized their scenery assets in terms of materials, static meshes, particle effects, etc... So focusing on the story wouldn't exactly take more than 2 years to accomplish. I could see a late 2011 release.

They've released a DLC every single month since release.

For actual "content" releases we got Zaeed in January, Kasumi in April, Overlord in June, and then LOTSB just now.  Didn't include Firewalker because the Fail-head, and all of it's missions, suck so hard.
