Don''t worry Dave, we'll all be dead in 2012 anyway. Wait, I guess that's a huge reason to worry!Posted Image

Lol. Well, if it comes out early 2012, there's no reason to worry. World doesn't end until 12/21/2012, so we'll get to play ME3 before then. ^_^

Not really... If you think about it... It won't be as painful as Mass 2's wait, because we'll have DLC up until the release to keep us busy.

Like I said in the other thread, a late 2011 release makes the most sense given everything Bioware's said about it. I remember Muzyka and Casey Hudson saying ME3 won't take as long to develop due to:

-Script is already completed
-Has been in development before ME2 came out
-The engine (gameplay/combat/visuals) are already exactly where they want it, minimal tweaking needed
-The story culminates and concludes in ME3, no need to worry about  continuity into a 4th game, so less variables to worry about like ME1 to ME2 and ME2 to ME3, significantly reducing development time
-Muzyka said something about putting their titles out in a quicker fashion (DA to DA2 is evidence of this)

I'd say 99% chance of November or December 2011 release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some more hints...here back in May, Casey said "It probably won't be for quite a few months that we talk about Mass Effect 3."

So if ME3 is indeed announced in October, that'll be around 5-6 months, sounds likely.

Before ME2 was even released, he also said, "We're already working on 'Mass Effect 3' right now. We do want to develop it in concert with listening to the way people are experiencing 'Mass Effect 2',".

and

"We don't want to take forever with it. We want people to be able to conclude this trilogy that have been with us over the years... [Development will be] along the same kind of time frame as 'Mass Effect 2'."

If you recall, ME2 was scheduled to be released in late 2009, but there was a small delay so they released in January 2010. It's very likely to expect a late 2011 release.

and

"We didn’t want to take forever with it. So we definitely want to make MassEffect 3 a fairly short turnaround, but also being that it needs to be a tremendous and epic conclusion to the trilogy."

*Watches ME3 get pushed back to a 12/22/2012 release date*

I kid. ^^

Thankfully they spent a lot of time working on the engine to span both ME2 and ME3, so most of the development time will be spent working on the "fun" parts. If I recall correctly. ;) I'm hopefully optimistic we'll see it soon! And as long as I can slap down a preorder for the Uber Edition... :3

lol at the people who believe the 2012 doom theory. Look at how the last doom theories worked out. Just wait for the panic about 2029 and 2034 or 2035. That's a real worry.

Let's see... DA2 was announced ~9 months after DA was released (is that right, I'm just guessing it was last month that it was announced).

If ME3 were to be announced 9 months after ME2 were released, that would make it an October announcement. BUT, this line of reasoning could be what initially got the rumor started.

Regardless, I would like ME3 to be announced in October, and I wouldn't worry too much about them rushing it. ME3 will have the same gameplay foundation as ME2 did, and that was the whole reason why it took so long between ME1 and ME2, enhancing the mechanics. So since that won't be an issue, and they are continually tweaking it via ME2 DLC's anyways, the turn around time should be pretty short. They just have to make new environments and animate the story, and add some new gameplay elements (one of which I think we have already seen in the LotSB DLC with the flying car).

And speaking of the LotSB, it seems to be the first of a real expansion, with several more parts to come that should keep us occupied till ME3 comes out. With a timeline perspective, we have been getting a story-wise DLC pretty much every 3 months. Assuming there are about 3 more left, the next one would release just in time for the holidays in December, followed by March, and the third in the summer, around June. I believe between the last DLC and ME3 would be about 3-5 months, because they would need everyone on board to finish programming, quality control, and just finalizing everything. That would mean an Sept, Oct or November release, which would fit with late/Fall 2011 release.

I would be thrilled with that.

Good points all around!  It seems BioWare uses the DLC as "balance tests" between difficulty, story, and cinema.  I wouldn't be surprised if they skip a full blown, sinlge SKU xpack with ME2 and go the way of 3-4 more LotSB sized DLCs.

Even though I believe that this rumor is probably true, don't forget that the rumors about the PS3 release were not exactly right. Mass Effect: Genesis was apparently the product of a journalist's imagination.

I can't express how happy this would make me. Although I can't stop thinking.. What happens after ME3? Once the story "ends" with ME3, can they release more DLC that actually has purpose? I assume it's possible, and that they will certainly find a way. DLC is just business as usual now.

I have to admit, I'm really excited for much further down the line, to see what BioWare plans to do as far as a new IP, or a new game in the Mass Effect universe after the trilogy.

But I didn't intend to hijack the thread. Don't mind me

Right now I'm just going to keep watching for news on the next DLC for ME2. After playing Shadow Broker I seriously can't wait. Even though I'm not a huge Ashley/Kaiden fan, I would really like to see a pack that does the same for them that Shadow Broker does for Liara.

I hope Bioware's next IP is also sci-fi. They pull it off so well!

They have always said ME3 would conclude Shepard's story, but probably not the Reaper threat in it's entirety.  Follow-up DLC could be the following:
1) Conclude side stories
2) Set-up for the next wave of ME games, perhaps with a new character or maybe an MMO
3) Perhaps play DLCs that tell prequel stories, possibly reliving Shepard's background stories; or even a follow-up to these
4) If Shepard is dead, 1-3 above would be played as a new character who would be the main character in the next wave of ME games.  (not sure how popular this would be.... unless it's LEGION!!! :D)

I'm hoping for a late 2011/early 2012 release as well. As others have said, the mechanics and story is really the only thing BioWare need create new or upgrade, other than that the development time frame should be shorter.

Bioware did say that the ME3 script is complete, too.
