I am certain that this has been discussed before, but in my opinion, the track "Vigil" from the original Mass Effect's soundtrack is the best piece from the franchise. I am sure this opinion is widely shared as well.

I just don't know what's with this track - I can listen to it in a loop for hours and still not get tired of it. It's a slow and peaceful tune, and I am happy that BioWare has bought it back for Liara's DLC during certain parts. Perhaps it is how much the track screams "space opera" in a game that doesn't have enough "touching" moments in it?

We need more tracks like these for ME3. Orchestral stuff is great for certain sequences, but I would love for the more "sci-fi" sounding music to make a return.

I thought as far as exciting music for the action sequences went, the combat music for Overlord was awesome.

I'm with you on this, it's the same with the Presidium music from ME1 for me aswell, I hope to hear that again too, in dlc or ME3.

I like to listen to it while I'm lying in bed in the dark. It's incredibly soothing.

The music comes back when you meet Wrex and the Virmire Survivor in ME2. I do like it although I hope it doesn't get overused in ME3. I'd like to hear it at the very end of ME3.

Vigil is a great piece. A lot of the more melodic stuff in ME works best. The presidium and the Galaxy Map music are some wonderful pieces. The Kasumi DLC featured some great music too. Personal favourites tend to be the more dramatic stuff like the suicide mission and Overlord combat theme

I had to go find it by name to know what you were talking about but yes. Its only problem being it is too short.

That's why you play it in a loop.

Well, for orchestral music, I liked the track "The Normandy Reborn" from ME2.

I just watched Blade Runner last night, and I did miss the synth themes that ME1's musical score held. Vigil's theme is the feeling we get from the ME experience; if only the narrative would reflect that, and not in simply meeting old faces. We need more Prothean-like feelings, this sense of wonder and hope, of being the savior of the galaxy, and a greater focus on the plot.

Absolutely!! I love ME1's soundtrack soooooo much, and this is my favorite song by far. ME2 is a great game, but I loved how the music in the first one lent a sense of awe and wonder I felt was lacking in the 2nd one.

It sounds like something you'd listen to while resting in a teak wood lined room with a large window to look out into the soft rain.

Yes, ME1 title song / Vigil is pretty much what defined Mass Effect world to me. I remember when I first started ME1 back then, the title music is the first thing that caught my attention. It is simply beautiful, peaceful and yet it screams space opera to me.

Whenever I pop in my ME1 disc and the main menu appears, I get chills because of the Vigil track playing in the background. It also makes me feel nostalgic because Mass Effect 1 was such a unique game that I couldn't compare to any other game that I had played.
That nostalgic factor and the soothing ambient tone makes it a perfect track to use for the old squad members in ME2. I would love for it to make an appearance in the third installment, and with a slightly altered version perhaps.

Am I the only who wasn't particularly thrilled with Overlord's music? In my opinion, LotSB's combat theme was a much better soundtrack.

I just listened to that track and I really like the beat. We need more synthesized tracks for the third game for sure.

I love vigil, but another track that i feel is iconic to Mass effect is the Therum music:

And the Presidium music:

And of course the most epic track to the most epic scene in ME1:

I, too enjoy Vigil; however, I hate the theme that plays during character creation in the first Mass Effect.

I love a number of tracks from both games, but the Ilos music tends to pull ahead as my favorite. Especially as part of an end game sequence.

Vigil was one of those moments that will always stand out for me. The music really helped to create a really sad and hopeless mood as the VI laid it out on how the entire Prothean civilisation was brutally wiped out...

Duh! Of course it's the best piece of the series. Once you hear it, you know it's Mass Effect.
