Is Lady Hawke fertile/Can we have children?

Really I think some people think too hard and just create problems. To an extent you want a game to be realistic and to a greater extent you don't. Otherwise you'd also be wondering about more mundane things like using the bathroom. I'm pretty sure you don't play every second of every day in then 10 year span of DA2 - there's probably going to be timeline jumps, and should any children be produced, it will probably be during that "unknown" time. Just a guess.

I think that having kids in game but not in the party could add an interesting dimension. Imagine DA:O if the warden had children at the keep. Would the warden abandon his/her children to protect Amaranthine? I think that something along those lines could raise the stakes from a role-playing perspective.
Hmmm....no. Marching to war for the greater good is not abandoning a family. Refuse to fight and everyone dies. Not much of an alternative?

The game gave us the choice to defend the keep and abandon Amaranthine. That doesn't mean that the warden is refusing to fight.

Think of it this way - you're playing Fergus' role/see things from his POV.ErichHartmann wrote...

Everybody loves Fergus.
Although I would hope you don't end up foretelling the death of your only offspring in a cruel, twisted joke.

I think what he meant was "What if the player had to choose between saving their kids at Vigil's Keep and saving Amaranthine?" Which would they choose? The rational choice might not always be made in that situation.
Just another reason that BioWare should totally do it.

I am guessing that most parents would go to protect their children. I don't have any myself but I would certainly protect my "in-game" kids.

Actually, David Gaider said something really interesting when someone asked if Hawke could have kids...I think it was along the "Well, ten years is a long time" sort of line.

Dammit, my Lady Hawke got knocked up by Zevran's brother, Narvez, so the narrative had to skip ahead nine months and now this White Falcons side quest is stuck in my quest log and I can't finish it. Thanks, BioWare.
EDIT: WTF!!!! I had fraternal twins and they're voiced by Jowan and Isolde!!!! Someone mod this quick.
This is made of WIN! And I WOULD like for my Lady Hawke to have a real romance with kids & everything.

You misunderstand lol. It's because I do know what I was like as a child that I dont want kids. If there is even the slightest possibility that my child could end up like me in any way then helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllls no. To quote Riddick "The universe doenst know what to do with just ONE of me." Aside from that, my wife and I enjoy a very easy going lifestyle where we do whatever we want, when we want to do it. Putting a child into the equation almost automatically takes any fun out of our lives. If we sound selfish or self-centered because we'd rather have fun than take care of an anklebiter then it is what it is I suppose.

how many years does your marriage have, if i may ask (i know, personal questions, you don't need to answer and all that)?
hawke's story spans over 10 years of his/her life. in that time the character may want to settle down, changing his motives and priorities to battle from himself to his family.

Exactly! Picture that plot twist! If in Awakenings your kids ended up at the better protected location, there could be painful reprecussion from the common folks... That could kick crazy ass!

The Mrs and I will be having out 9th year Anniversary this December on the 2nd
and @Riponche - Another reason I wouldnt even consider in game children is because duely to that....No kids means less leverage the enemy/bad guys/darkspawn/etc. have against you. Plus, even in that scenario, my "children" wouldnt have any hold over me. If given the choice between the old addage of "saving my children" or "saving the world" Im sorry but the kids are going to die. It's the logical choice to choose "saving the world" over your own "emotinal attachments". Some may think that's cruel but you have to, again, think of it from a logical standpoint. Kids, or the world? Hmmmmm....I can always have more kids....But we only have one world....Yep, easy choice IMO lol.

Hahah! I totally know what you mean... but picture this... Your Hawke(tte!) comes back from an adventure... and the only people there to greet him are pale as death guards stammering and sweating bullets. Hawke is like... WTF? Into the base of operations s/he goes only to find out... Your kid left a note. Your kid, his mabari, and three of his best friends have decided to go off on an adventure. So now you have to either send companions after them, or go yourself and send the companions on whatever mission is next. It would be a neat twist... with a cost associated to it.

congratulations, so you chose to not have a child and there are also people who choose to have a child in the span of 10 years. in an environment like thedas i reckon having a child is not about taking care of them per se, but to ensure your family line continues on. my point is...having a child should be kept to being a player choice and to be a plot point whenever it is necessary ( for example, slightly changing the course of a quest involving your family and such) but not overshadowing the main plot.

I wouldnt do either....My opinion would be If my child is "adult" enough to pick up a blade and venture off on his own. Then he/she's adult enough to deal with the consequences of their actions and that "daddy" isnt going to be there to save him/her. I understand the scenario you're putting out here but it only works with certain individuals. I am not one of them lol.

So if your character's daughter is seven and decides to be a hero with her friends, you'd let her run off and get violated by a hurlock or two before they turn her into a broodmother?

I probably said this before but having a child we could use in future DA games would be neat. But I just don't see that ever happening. If I had the resources, I would create an RPG series linked together by family lineage.
This this this! Ten thousand times this. I recall a post by a Bethesda developer going back fifteen years or so. They wanted to do that with the Elder Scrolls games, where each one would build on the one before it as your character and his descendents slowly grew in power and scale of power.... from hapless arena fodder to king of all the land.
I always wished that had been able to follow through.
