I'm curious to know what the community's views are on magic items that implement a scripted polymorph other effect. I.e. the full blown effect where the creature becomes a rabbit (or whatever), but a dispel magic spell can turn the rabbit back into the creature. Obviously it would have a significant impact if it happened to one of the party's recruits, and it would seem to be a game ender for a PC. I'm sure it's scriptable (and I'm guessing it has been done already), but I'm not sure whether it's worth including in many modules as it may break the plot. Maybe a polymorphed recruit should be script-hidden and represented as an item in another character's inventory? Thoughts?

Thanks.

polymorph effects automatically come with the feature to return to original form, you would need to mimic the effect of mass fowl which I guess too uses polymorph but perhaps with some flags. As for its debilitating effect as long as it's duration is not permanent (can be removed via rest if there happen to be no dispellers around) it's not a big deal.

The EffectPolymorph() fgunction has a "locked" option.

I think they will unpolymorph upon resting even when locked. I had to write a custom OnRest script to account for that.

As said already, Grooovey, I did not know that either

I think if you make the effect supernatural, it will not end on resting, either.

Thank you. If the PC gets polymorphed, can he or she still participate in conversations? Is there a way to lock out that option, other than through the condition flags in the conversations?
