From the video clips I've seen I just can't stand her voice for some unknown reason. Anybody else feel the same?
I agree with you...her voice is annoying. IF femshep was an actual squatmate she would have died along time ago or never used just due to her annoying voice.
I also cant understand all the male gamers roleplaying as a chick.......parents might have to talk to you one of these days on why you check out dudes more the girls ;/ .
Plus isnt male shep canon and femshep not so it's a moot point anyways.

Thanks for all the love on the article!
Just wanted to drop in and say that those stats weren't released when I originally posted the article here:
www.gamesetwatch.com/column_the_spoony_bard/
The stats were posted on the 6th, the column on the 2nd.
The piece was later cross-posted to Gamasutra where it's kind of taken off.

Um, isn't that the other way around? Since you always see Shep, those of us who play as FemShep are "checking out" a girl more than a guy. (Not that I "check out" a computer generated character)

No, male Shep is not canon, he is default. Read the dev post here. There is no canon Shep. Shep is whoever we the player want her/him to be. In your case your "canon" Shep is a male. In my case, "canon" Shep is female.
Anyway, interesting article. When I first got Mass Effect I created a male character because, well I'm a guy. But after a couple playthroughs when I first did a FemShep I just noticed how much better her VA was compared to male Shep's VA. After enough playthroughs I just found I couldn't take doing a Male Shep playthrough anymore. Then in ME2 I imported my main FemShep through first. When I finally did do a male playthrough I found Meer's voice work even worse than it was in ME1. I only continued through with a male Shep just to experience the Tail and Miranda romances. Now I haven't played as a Male Shep since, and unless there's a really interesting romance for Male Sheps in ME3 I don't plan on playing a Male Shep in ME3.

thanks for the link....I didn't know about the canon part and thought male shep was canon.
Plus the ales playing femshep...I was talking about when they began to romance in game guys....always funny hearing a dude say 'Aw man I just romanced garrus/kaiden/jacob," Of course I am paraphrasing but you understand now.

I do. She sounds like she's trying way to hard to be hardass.

It sounds like there was way too much forced masculinity in her voice.

This is a quantity vs. quality issue. Quality players appreciate FemShep, while the hordes of glorified locusts known as "teenagers" no doubt just pew-pew-pew away with Mr. Manly Man Shepard. People with no imagination should not be dictating the level of attention the 'less popular' game content receives.
Whatever buddy, i, and judging by statistics a hell of a lot of other people, greatly prefer Meer's voice to Hale's.

I imagine the actual spread ranges from 70/30 to 65/35.

Not to defend the utter knob-end of an opinion put forward, but that's kind of the point being made. That said, antagonism is said poster's stock in trade, so you're better off leaving it be.Gibb_Shepard wrote...

Anyone hate the person named Tadhg Kelly in the comments section of the article?
But this whole issue of only 20% of players used Femshep (we must be one loud-ass minority) may not mean the vast majority does not like playing a female protagonist (counter-point: Tomb Raider), but that Bioware needs to show Femshep in marketing (stepping stone: showing a pic of Lady Hawke). If half of players did not finish the game, I bet many did not know female was an option due to marketing.
Not to mention that the default manShep was thrust in our faces the moment you selected start a new game.
In ME1, the option to have anything other than the default manShep was in an option menu practically hidden away and easily missed.
Also, how many people only have a manShep for the romance options? I know I only created one for Tali.

Really? The air must be thin way up there. I only wish I was a teenager.
This is the kind of response that gives femShep players the perception of elitism. Try again.

Yeah thats horrible. Considering that Bioware created ME with a male lead in mind...**enter Sheploo** FemShep is just a generic female that could be any old NPC. I wonder if thats what makes everyone so defensive.

Right before Shadow broker came out, I ran through a femshep ME1 playthrough with Liara as LI because I didn't want to go back to using maleshep for this dlc.
