Feel bad about having to kill the refugees that attack you outside of Lothering? They believed the lies of Loghain and were loyal to the King, they wanted to be safe and felt that you, as a grey warden, had betrayed that safety.
I knew what was coming when they confronted me, but I sort of felt bad about ripping them to shreds (there were alot of them, but they stood no chance against heavily armed and armored warriors and a Mage with a grudge).
It adds to the darkness of the game, I know, but I can't help but feel bad for them.. and I even felt respect for their courage - taking on people armed much heavier than you takes some cojones.
I haven't had a game in a very long time that made me feel for the pixels on the screen... great job Bioware. The twists that keep popping up just keep the game going huge in my mind.
Did anyone else...

Their great plan to protect themselves was to attack a group that (at least as far as they knew) was able to kill a king. I give 'em credit for guts, but they were morons and I mourn for them not.

Yep I know what you mean, there have been more then a few things I've been wary of, actually trying to think out the best way to do something or the morally right one. Which is refreshing as usually (Even in other bioware games) it's a matter of saving the kitten or drowning it. This one has lose-lose and other interesting scenarios.

Yes, I did ... faulty reasoning on their part or not.
Like you I had a pretty good idea what was up, and foolishly thought that I would have the option to reason with them.
You always have the option to talk them out of it right? Right?
Not this time ...
Kudos to the writers.

There are indeed some great moments in this game where you just can't win. I too think it's sad they attacked me. They even said something about having more than enough food frmo the money they can buy after killing you... Poor fellas.

Why should there always be a choice, right? Try as one might is impossible to change everyone's minds. But quite frankly I don't consider the event to be noteworthy, probably because of the aforementioned reason of them being stupid and charging you.

Haha..
No I didn't...
I have a hard time feeling sorry for people that attack me for just montary gain. Particularly if they can't fight. To me they were nothing more then common bandits.
Had they asked I might have given them money..unfortanely they all ended up dead instead.

Personally, I kind of wondered if it was my fault that they attacked. From the moment I entered the village, I was telling people that I was a Grey Warden. Yes, they said that my secret was safe with them, but I wonder... Maybe if I hadn't opened my big mouth and used my warden status to open dialogue and get favors, the villagers wouldn't have known and tried to attack me in hopes of getting the reward money that was being offered...

I don't feel bad about attacking pixels I can't talk out of attacking me as a rule. Otherwise I couldn't play any video game and feel good about it.

I felt bad because I knew it was my fault they died. They were desperate and I had told everyone I was a Grey Warden when I should have known better and kept my mouth shut.

I must say though. It was a significant small event, with not too much drama going on and I didn't really feel bad at all, more annoyed that they so randomly started swarming me. But looking back at it, 'tis a sad thing. But these kind of small events are what makes the game even better!

I can't feel bad for them. Even my most heroic character can't find it in himself to do anything more than pity desperate men who resort to violence against innocents.

So if you don't tell anyone you're a Grey Warden, they don't show up?
Could anyone confirm that?

They told me "Don't Care if it is true or not . . ."
SO I sent them to their Maker so that he could explain that they SHOULD have cared.

I can confirm this, but it might also be triggered by the Tavern encounter if you let the soldiers go (not killing them).
