Yes. I'm dying to work with a Batarian.
Does anyone actually want to see new squadmates for ME3?

I trust bioware. Whatever they will do will be surprising and fun.
But there better be a Vorcha on my squad!

The Liara thing seems to be they are giving her a major role in the third game without making her a squad member i guess to appease her fans. That's really the hardest issue when it comes to creating new squad members who do you replace? If any character is cut out and reduced to a minor role like characters were in ME 2 you'll upset their fans and if some play a bigger role the fans of characters who did not will ask why those ones were bought back and others were not. The moving of Liara to a none squad role tells me they already plan to have an Asari on the team so Samara is likely staying on.
That's quite a leap in logic!
I don't dispute that Liara may well be off the squad, but it doesn't follow that this secures Samara's "future".
I don't doubt we'll have an asari (or two) in the squad, but Samara...? Nah.
I dunno about two Shepard seems to have the Noahs ark rule with other species and take one of each

As for LotSB they wanted Liara to be a squad but couldn't/didn't want her being a full time one so she had to be one just for the DLC. The ending of it just wouldn't happen otherwise, and if she WASN'T a squadmade through out the DLC it just wouldn't of made any sense. And there wouldn't of been as much interaction with her.
Way I see it, the DLC wouldn't of been as fun if she was always on the side lines, I figure thats why they did it. Doubt it was as some social test to see what we all think. Though I can see that being something they look at now that its out when making choices for ME3. Like I said I figure Wrex will be like that due to his position in the ME universe currently. Hard to imagine he'll just drop everything to jump on your ship for a few months/year.

But the ME BW team has an excellent track record so far on making some amazing characters.
I'd be curious to see who else they could heap into it.

Just give us the ones that already have a bearing on the story and have been established in the mass effect universe. Don't just fill a boat with useless high poly models of flesh that have no relevance to what is going on (see: samara and thane).

This is the basic structure of KOTOR, Dragon Age (and Awakenings!) and both ME Games so far. I suspect that if you expect something else you are going to be disappointed... There is of course scope to carry over some characters in this set up (perhaps as part of the original team) and maybe even to go and find some that could have been captured or something, but I'm expecting several new squadmates.

After all one of the main points of ME2 was to aquire a new team, it would be a shame to throw them all away.

In any case, I would like to see some new squadmates in ME3 at least. The more the merrier!

ME3 kind of has to stand on its own, guys. You can't expect them to add nothing new just because you want the whole thing to be a gigantic expansion pack for ME2.
Yup, Bioware has chosen their approach when they made ME2 the way they did. They have already told us, that ME3 will "stand on its own".
If anything, the new LotSB DLC has shown how "old favorites" can be brought out for that "last hurrah", without being actual squaddies for the majority of the game.
Bioware is using these new bridging DLC, of which LotSB was the first, to test out how certain features might work for ME3. Well, that's my theory any way...

ME3 would be pretty boring without a new squad.

Whilst not a squadmate, a volus shopkeeper on the Normandy would be nice.

My guess: All possible former romance interests, with the exception of the sacrifice on Virmire, will be back as quad mates. No matter if they survived the suicide mission or not. Otherwise players might be too disappointed.
The remaining squad members will be either dead - if the savegame says so - or fill marginal roles, like the Council, Kaidan, Ashley and Wrex did in ME2.
That gives us eight fixed squad members, requires writing, voice acting and animations for nine and leaves room for around four new squad mates.
That being said, they might also push those characters into side stories or even DLC.

however, what I believe will happen, is the LI's will return as squaddies, or as extensive cameos, and the non-LI squaddies will be delegated to cameos/minor roles.
That leaves 7 people. the VS, the six LI's from ME2(Liara is the new Shadow Broker, and thus will almost certainly not be a squadmate).
This leaves room for 5-6 new squadmates, which satisfies pretty much everyone.
You get continuation/closure with your favorite LI, and you get some new awesome characters.

1) DLC Characters
2) There loyalty missions were based on existing agreements they brokered with TIM, not Shepard. Doing their missions was a 'contractual obligation", not tying up loose ends.
That being said, without Zaeed or Kasumi, that allows for Kaiden/Ashley to return as well as one possible NEW squadmate

.....only if half the squad are people from ME1/ME2, that is.
As I much I loved seeing new people in ME2, I feel like one of the reasons that made my experience of ME2 even more meaningful was seeing Tali and Garrus back in the squad. Gives a sense of continuity and familiarity, amidst all that Cerberus/Collector strangeness. Hopefully Bioware will take that into consideration when deciding the squad make up of the next game.
But I think we will see new squaddies nonetheless, since the developers want ME3 to also work as a standalone game.
For some reason I feel like these will definately be new squadmates:
1. Attractive human woman
2. Bad ass alien dude
Solely based on the fact that the Mass effect box art/promotional trailers always featured Shepard, an attractive human woman (Ashley in ME1 and Miranda in ME2) and a bad ass alien guy (Garrus in ME 1 and Thane in ME2) as poster characters. Yesh, this is a lame theory, I know
I would also love to see:
1. A batarian squadmate, given the long and bitter history with humanity, and finally hear things from an individual batarian's perspective. It would definately flesh out the race more.
2. That rarest of unicorns... a turian female. Bonus if she's a biotic.

Well there you have it.No new squadmates:P
Sten knows what hes talking about. I guess tops maybe some 'replacement' squad memebers for imported games with dead characters form the suicide mission would be ok. But not flat out new members

If I could see Wrex and Grunt interact with each other throughout the mission and have Wrex be Grunt's mentor and father figure, I know I'll be very happy.
That said, there are other characters I'd REALLY like to see play major roles in ME3. Not necessarily be on the squad, but play major roles. I can imagine Liara would be contacting you remotely, giving information from her new base, and helping you from afar. I can also imagine a few times you communicate in the flesh...especially after it's all over. It would be cool to team up with her, though. Damn cool.
But that's me.
