So decapitations are okay but awkard underwear grinding thats meant to represent sex (A natural part of human life) is wrong. I'm not attacking you just playing devils advocate.

Very true. The current generation is much too liberal with their views on child-rearing. I've been called out on letting my nephew watch Star Wars at that age, and realized, yeah, it was a mite violent for him.

When I was a baby, my father would put me in a seat and place me infront of the television until 11pm or so. I loved South Park that I even watched the movie at an extremely young age (I was like 4-5 when I saw the movie), I saw lots of pr0n and horror movies at that age and it's pretty much made me immune to the horrors of the interweb.

I'm not an insane murderer that loves raping and killing like the media would make you believe.

I watched whatever the hell I liked and developed a healthy fear/revulsion of porn, gore movies, and horror.

Also, it's hard not to take this as a jab towards me since I just got finished saying I let my nephew play DAO. That's a rather...gorey game.

Likewise... I spent many an hour behind the couch stealthily watching B-grade slasher flicks that my dad was always a fan of. That being said, it depends on the kid. I literally know a kid (he's 18 now) that ate mushrooms he found on the side of the road because Mario did that. He also asked him mom how many more hits he can take before he dies after he played a little GoldenEye. Kids that have difficulty separating reality from fantasy at that age need to be coddled a bit more in this regard.

Given that I'm a supply teacher, it becomes obvious what type a child is very quickly.

The movie came out in 1999 and if you were 5 then that'd make you 16/17 now.

And the inverse is true overseas. Comes with the Puritanical foundation of the nation.

I'm 18, so it's around that age group. I was guesstimating.

It neither looks nor plays real. He's no more violent than the kids who grew up on Tom & Jerry, and a very social and articulate boy for his age. He adores his new one-month old brother and also attempted to teach him to eat cucumbers not too long ago.

*We're way off-topic but it's not like this thread is getting better anyways*

I can imagine the kid shoving the cucumber down the baby's throat and saying "EAT , GOD DAMN IT."

The world in general has grown immune to images of violence. You can see horrific things just by turning on the news.

Genocide on television = mehhh

Popstar showing boobies = OMG SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN

That's merely the American (and bleedoff Canadian) media. Overseas, they are much more sensitive to violence, but a boobie won't bat an eye.

He pressed it against baby's lips and I took it away from him fast and just told him to eat his dinner in front of him, and he'd learn, and then once he grew teeth they could eat together.

Maybe the worst thing he's done was pick him up, and that has zero to do with video games.

In The Lost and Damned expansion for GTA IV there was full frontal male nudity and there was such an outroar. Forget the fact that I can ventilate gangsters with shotguns, seeing a penis, something I as a male see everyday is just blasemphey :P.

*awkward silence*

I am "overseas". /not American

But I would say that America leads the narrative in "Violence is OK but no boobies plz".

Over-generalizing, of course, but based on my travel to Australia, Scotland and Germany. Image IPB

Actually, I am absolutely not okay with letting my nephew play my GTA games. God of War is also off limits.

Of course, he wants to play those more than anything else. The reason he loves DAO so much is because I wouldn't let him play it for the longest time, and when I did, it was like manna from the gods.

Now Scribblenauts is the new thing.

There are about 190+ countries in the world.... lol

I'm basing this on what the media chooses to focus on, and what becomes headlines in major outlets, how they frame the narrative etc. I don't have any statistics of course, this is how it seems to me, so you might be correct as well.

All the kids are playing it nowadays, the parents get it without giving two ****s about the "M" rating and then yell out when the game has a curse word or has violence. You should do the same, just wait for DA2 and say there's "FULL NUDITY ALIEN-ELF SEX" on Fox News. For the lulz and internet win points.

On a sidenote, kind of amazing how quickly those little guys can pick up on these games. At that age, I could barely manage Kid Icarus.

And those are the stupid parents that don't know what's inside the game before letting them play it. I do, and I won't let him touch it. I support awareness and caution, not censorship. My older sister sets the line on what is and isn't okay, and what is left to my jurisdiction I have my own personal rules for. If it seemed like he was getting violent because of DAO, it would be time to retire that game.

I should point out he also loves Lego Batman and Mario Party, so it's not just a lust for violent video games.
