I'm not so much disgruntled that I cannot play the warden in DA2 - that is, if I'll play DA2, which I at this point very much doubt. - as I am disgruntled with the sloppiness and the utter disregarding their customers Bioware/EA is demonstrating in regard to DA:O.
Lets face it, because of the kids who wants to level up at least once per hour, combined with their need for ridiculously overpowered items, the warden is now so insanely powerful that there's little opposition that can even slow him/her down.
But Bioware/EA is showing such contempt for their fans, that I really can't for my life understand why anyone is excited about Hawke/DA2.
1. DA:O, DA:A, and the DLC has so many loose ends, that you could write a book about them.
2. DA:A was a blatant ripoff, wich was so poorly made that some of the most elemental stuff was not adressed, both storywise, and bugwise. (No, I don't think I'll let the Darkspawn go away, to create their own future, considering how they reproduce. Something as fundamental as this isn't even adressed or mentioned, at any point.)
3. One year after release of DA:O, Bioware has still not produced a decent patch for the game. Now you want me to believe that by skipping it, and jumping to DA2 it will be better? You'll excuse me if I remain doubtful.
4. One by one our choises are removed, to a degree where DA2 sounds like Heroquest, or the original D&D. You can't customize your classes anymore, rogues have to be dex-based, warriors strenght-based. No dual-wielding for warriors, a rogue cannot equip a greatsword, etc. etc. The fact that some, I for one, like to play Jack's of all Trades, who can do a bit of everything, but excels at nothing, is utterly disregarded.
5. The sequel to the "Spirituel Succesor to Baldur's Gate" is going to be a slick, fastpaced, short action-adventure, utterly focused on cool combat moves, and spectacular effects? That wasn't how I experienced BG/BG2, but there you are.
All I hear and see about this game as the days progress, is indicating that Bioware and EA is aiming for the lowest common nominator. Keep it simple, reduce choises, make it linear. Possible it will be a succes, and they will sell more copies than ever. But they are loosing old fans in the proces. I hope for them that the trade is worth it.
