There has to be something wrong with the game, as my computers are far more than good enough for this game. No other game i have tried - including Crysis - laggs.
I play the steam-version. Is it possible that the error is in this version only?
Really hope there will be a patch soon. This is one of the best game ever, but the lagging destroys a lot. Without lagg it would be a 10/10. With lagg it is a 6/10 in my opinion.

Again: Hope there will be a patch very soon. I really want to play the game one more time, but this lagg is too annoying.

The game also crash now and then. Not so often that it is a huge problem, but annoying as hell when it is a long time since last savepoint.
Could it be some wrong programming on memoryusage?
Hope I dont have to but the 360/PS3-version. The gameplay here doesn't look as fun.

well i believe i may have found something turning the sound off in configuration actually fixes the lag so i'm guessing this has something to do with motherboard realtek soundcard

Oh, you serious? One of the guys reading through the dxdiag said I didn't have a proper soundcard (but I'm sure I had a built in one, or something similar). Maybe that's it? Hmm... hmm. I could play without sound for the larger battles if it made the lagg go away.

When I ran the game on Xp I had combat lag during the final battle, especially at the city gates and outside the palace.
Then I tried running the game on win 7 and no lag

Have you guys tried disabling v-sync by chance? V-sync can cause horrible issues by cutting the frames literally in half, especially without triple buffering on.
It's not a framerate issue. I get the same thing. My FPS stays way up, but in large battles commands are either disregarded completely, or delayed horribly. It has nothing to do with FPS or whether or not certain party members like the main character.

I don't think this is a cpu issue.

It might be because I'm using SP2, and I've been thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 instead.

Sounds like a CPU issue, if it's only with lots of critters around, and if it persists on low video settings. I'm betting overheating. So many overheating PCs, thanks to rubbish manufacturers and people who don't keep their PC clean. DA using the CPU so much then brings out the problems.
This also seems likely since my computer has shut down without warning 3-4 times while playing DA, as if it tried to protect itself from overheating. What I'll do is clean out the computer (I hate doing that though, always feels like I'm breaking things in there) and if that doesn't work, Windows 7.

And... voila! No more slowdown in larger battles. The save I had been using for testing all of these things was when you defend the gate in the climax of the game, and now everything responds immediately. Mainly I used bombs and the assassins mark (trying to see damage can be a bit confusing, but the glowing red is an easy way to see how quickly they react).
So, for me it seems the problem was lots and lots of dust clogging up the fan. I'll play more and see if still slows down (seeing as how the computer was restarded- maybe it always performs better when it's still a bit cool).
If you don't dare/know how to clean your computer, maybe you could ask a friend or someone who knows computers to help you? I paid my friend in Dragon Age Soundtracks, since I have the CE and he does not- maybe others will accept those too, eh?
Edit: Ssssshiittttt the slowdowns have slowly started again.
Edit edit: And now it's all smooth again. Seems that when it becomes a bit too much, it still slows down, but it's barely noticeable and not fatal at all. Maybe I'll have to clean it better, but it certainly helped, I am sure of it.
