same here on big fights disabling the sounds helps solve the slowdowns changing sound cards didn't solve the problem tho.
I think its definitively a ram issue game's taking way more than 1gb ram imo
Terrible lagg/slowdown in larger battles

Its def not overheating (but of course overheating can make it even worse). One of my computers is brand new and works perfect on all other games. Including more demanding ones like Crysis.
Even if the settings are set to the very lowest (so that it looks like a PlayStation1 game) it starts lagging after 30-60 min, and the loadingscreens are like 3-5 minuttes. Its like going back to the commodore64-days.

I have not tried to disable the sound... Do you have to turn off all the sound or only effects?
Dunno what is worst though... A lagging Dragon Age or a Dragon Age without sound...
Patch please:,-(

Hell, I get lag just fighting trees or walking through mist. The rest goes fine but it's just to meet one of those conditions and...Tankenminnet wrote...
This happens to me a lot in battles involving +12ish enemies. I can give my party orders, but they wont execute them for sometimes (if things are really bad) like 10 seconds later, which is really terrible (friendly fire frozen Alistair is cool but not helpful). I've got a good computer, and I've tried things like lowering the settings plenty, but I still get it. Is this a coding thing, or is it exclusive to me?

I've been having the same issues of the game just hanging and/or very low framerates, It happens in buildings and lots maps, too many to list. I am able to play the game in High detail but experience various areas of the game where the frames just drop to 2-10 FPS. I've tested those same areas in all low details and no special effects and I'm still getting the same dropped frames and lags. Also tested the game with and without steam with same issues. I've tested on another computer I have and it also experiences the same issues and hangs as my main computer. Both computer have updated drivers and security patches.
Main computer:
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
AMD64 Phenom X4 9600+ 2.3ghz
ATI Radeon 4850 1gb
4gb DDR2
DX10
Secondary computer:
Windows XP SP3
AMD64 X2 4200+ 2.1ghz
nVidia 8600GT 512mb
2gb DDR2
DX 9.0c
The game is almost unplayable at points where I spend 3-5 minutes trying to walk through a Lagged area even in all low details on a nice computer rig. Funny that the first battle scene in the beginning ran fantastically smooth in very high details, but areas with small structures and few people it hangs.

I'm pretty sure tallbearnc is right in this post and its an issue with bad game optimisation on ram usage... or something like that.
Just have to wait for a patch ! :

Remember that for multicore processors you need the latest OS (Vista,Win7,etc) since the latest OS work better with multicore, and i know that by my own experience, also XP is a bad OS for multicore (and lot of people uses XP).

Has there been a solution to this? I am having the same issue, turning off the sound is the only way to resolve the lag. The issue seems to be getting worse the more I play, even battles with 4 or 5 opponents are lagging now.
I have Realtek sound as do other people here, don't really want to have to buy a different sound card, and don't think I should have to.
