Saren, hands down.

He embodies so many facets so well: Organic vs synthetic. The gradual succumbing of self to the reapers; indoctrination and implantation and the futile struggle to resist. Hopelessness, despair...and eventually hope and redemption. He's a Spectre, he's an enemy. He's a patriot, he's a traitor. He's the personification of a cycle that has occurred countless thousands of times before him, one which the player is watching unfold via the game. He symbolizes the inevitable fall of every civilization...the destiny of every sapient being before the reapers.

It makes me wonder how many "Shepards" have come before our own, in the history of the ME universe. How many other civilizations in past cycles have resisted and had their own "Spectres" and heroes. Which would be a depressing thought and leads me to hope that BW doesn't half-ass the ending with some sort of lolwut trump card that takes out the Reapers like a Sunday-morning stroll. If we take out the Reapers, I hope it's done in a very epic, wow-this-explains-why-no-one-else-succeeded-before way.

Or maybe I'm just tired and am reading too much into it with all my babbling. XD

But on a serious note this.

Legion - we both have difficulties understanding these 'human emotions' you all seem to have. we also both like the sniper rifle in videogames (as evidenced by his profile in LotSB), and we both don't like the quarrians.

Going to go with Garrus as well. On the one hand he's dedicated to eliminating corruption and evil but he knows he's got to get his hands dirty to do it. He parallels my renegade Shepard pretty well since they're both fighting to destroy evil but they're both okay with summary executions, brutalizing suspects, civilian casualties, etc. They're both slowly becoming what they're fighting to destroy although neither has had that cliche "my God, what have I done?" moment yet.

Hmm, tough choice.

I'd say Saren, for reasons already stated in this thread.

Liara and I'll tell you why.

Liara is IMO the single most important person in the game as it relates to the plot for the trilogy. When I think of Mass Effect, I think of Liara and the revelation that Ilos was the place to look for the conduit after seeing Sheperds visions. When I think Mass Effect I think of how Liara was the only squadmate to search for Sheperd's body after the attack on the Normandy. When I think of Mass Effect I think of how Liara is vital to the success of sheperd in almost every conceivable way.

I'm not only saying this because I am head over heels over this lovely blue queen, but sincerely because looking at it from an objective point of view Liara is simply extremely important.

I find it really cool how everyone has different responses. It means that people are getting what they want out of ME, which is kinda what I think the devs intended.

Anyway, mines Garrus, for sure. Total badass + sniper rifle = win

If he could use the Widow the world would explode.

For me, there would be two characters in the game accomplish this. Both a squadmate and NPC.

The squadmate would be Tali. The reason being is that she held the information that allowed Shepard to become a Spectre to be able to track down Saren, as well as learning about the Reapers. Albeit Shepard could have found an alternative way to convict Saren, but that was an important tide of events IMHO. Another reason was that she was loyal to Shepard despite all the problems that were thrown their way during the story, and continued to be in ME2.

Admiral Hackett would be another, despite not being able to see what he looked like. He personified the very soul of the Alliance, despite it being corrupted and hampered by politics. I have a feeling, in light of the dossier in LotSB, he will play an important role in the Alliance's reaction to the Reaper threat. He may have a bigger part with Spacer Shepards.

you cant really say one character is more important then another outside of comander shepard. hell every single new fan to the ME franchise that started with ME2, missed wrex whose the best character by far anyways. so to say ones more important is rediculouse

tho i will say liara seems to be biowares LI so i can see her getting the better plot elements rather then samara or zeadd. also, theres no need for admiral hacket when we have EDI. EDI is essentially hacket version 2.0. i thought hacket was dead too?

after playing both games alot, id have to say the name that stands out to me, even more then shepard, liara, wrex and miranda, was saren.

Wrex.

The toughest soldier in series. Biotic. Evidence that even representative of race which survived the nuclear war and then genetic catastrophe may be understanding and sapient. Great leader which leads "kroganistic" reforms to one of the wildests races. Proof of greatness of organic life
