I feel this way only about the new hurlock design. I hate it. I absolutely hate it.
I know they are trying to go for a look that is unique to Dragon Age, but the hurlocks are just ridiculous. And for those who say, "It's in Alpha - chill out," take a look at the concept art from Dragon Age: Origins: the hurlocks in the first game look just like the concept art.

Check it out (Dragon Age: Origins Hurlock Concept Art) : http://www.dragonage...s/hurlock_2.jpg

Now, look at the concept art for Dragon Age 2 hurlocks: http://img121.images.../i/hurlock.jpg/

Bam! See what I'm saying? They need to understand that when people say, "The darkspawn look like orcs", it is not a bad thing! Different isn't always better. Everything has already been done, but classics are classics for a reason.

The new Hurlocks just look like ICP fans.  Really, guys?  I kind of lauged at the Qunari, I don't care for the changes tot he elves but I can forgive them as the "in" thing to do with elves in a fantasy setting now.  This?  You really don't want us to take DA2 seriously, do you?

Just to add a bit to the Elven mythology. In Nordic Lore, they were called alfer (alfs) and they were indeed small little creatures who a) helped everything to blossom in the spring and B) danced human's feet off - quite litterally. They lived beneath the earth and the entrance were in a hill, it is said. And whenever a handsom young man came their way, the alfen women would seduce him with their dance.
And he had to stay in at quarters in the deep underground for many months or years. Tolkien took these alfs (or in Ireland known as the little people) and made Elves out of them. Why he did this, is anybody's guess.

The lios alfar (or light elves) were light elementals that lived in a separate area off to the side of creation and weren't interested in much apart from shining rbightly at each other. The dok alfar (or dark elves) were also known as dvergr (dwarfs) who lived underground and were marvellous smiths who took little interest in surface affairs.

To the vikingr folk the word alf meant simply "not human".

The celtic elves or fair folk were normal human size and looked human. They are present in many British folktales from certain periods.

But when finally slain, the desperate small humanity rose up and looked upon into his father's eyes and what was there was not the gold grief and hatred from before but a final relief that somehow his soul and life was at peace. And at the moment when he asked his father of the end, there was a unbreakable bond, a connection between father and son, and then the Terenas line faded away into the Twisting Nether, but their place in history shall be ever remembered.

(yes me an Arthas fanboi, Illidan can kiss my ass)

Edit: Spelling

Wasn't there a quest where you destroy the last bit of his humanity, a 'weakness' he ripped from himself, so you can weaken him for later? Man Blizzard must really be retcon crazy over there, ignoring **** that happened in the same expansion.

Not that I've heard of, unless you're talking about that one quest where you literally destroy his heart that he ripped, i think ur talking about that. However in the Arthas book, Arthas himself destroyed his humanity and Ner'zhul's spirit in the end, a symbol of him having full control of himself as the Lich King.

If they look like that, I don't want to see them in DA 2.

Fingers crossed.

Make an Arthas thread for your pleasure, please. This is for elves.

If elves don't have any distinguishable features, then they're not elves. My first elf mage looked like a short human, flat ears that disappeared into the hair.

The ears on the elves do look odd. It's not just the size but the way they jut out a bit like a donkey.

I dislike how soft and smooth the female elves and humans look more than the elven ears though. Where's definition or even the tiniest glimpse of muscle tone?

Bigger ears, and more distinctive features are fine. When they start looking like this:

Then we have a problem.

Ears 2 inches bigger than the last game, not a big deal.
**Obviously, just my opinion though**

Hasn't it already been over WoW?

Besides, wait and see until we actually get footage of the real game.

What changes do people keep talking about??? The elves in the concept art look like elves! They look like DA:O's elves matched to fit the new artistic style the same way humans from DA:O match the new style... it's not like their apperance turned a 180 like with the qunari. I suppose their ears are a bit diffrent and a tad touch longer... but thats all I'm seeing.

I'm refering of course to this distasteful departure in regards to their ears.

The old one is the classical Tolkein one (or if you are a SciFi man, Vulcan one). I find it easier to take the Elves seriously. In fantasy worlds I find near human and truly alien species the easiest to take seriusly since they both make sense from a evolutionary perspective. Things like minotaurs don't. I won't mention how the new Quanari are basically 4th edition Tieflings since there are plenty of threads on that.

its still pracitcally identical to humans one might say, well then why change it? I tought the rational for the change was to put more distance appearnce wise between the species, could this perhaps be just a convenient excuse for what is perhaps the real reason which I will get to in a moment.

So let me defuse people who would call the new look unique. No its not. Actually the WoW Elves at least also have freaky eyes and different skin color. And centaurs are freaking half horse critters, sillyness like Minotaurs no doubt, but in a more fairy tale setting I can find the enjoyable (they do not mesh well with gritty fantasy ala A game of thrones).

Perhaps they want to emphaises elven connection to nature with the slight Leprechaun/Centaur vibe? Wow, how original.

I suspect the real reason is to make them more cartoony, less classical fantasy generical and more video game generic. If this puts me in the old fart "I hate how they make it more like WoW camp" so be it.

Do you mean an elf like “Arwen Evenstar, Lords of the Rings?  I am definitely for this one.

Edit:  I am totally dismay with the explanation for the elves: new look.  They are being compared to Native Americans who have been robbed by a higher power?  What is there to boast  (Conquering a civilization on the basis of being better than its inhabitants is barbaric, to say the least) ?   The elves cannot be compared to humans because they are different beings.  Albeit in Dragon Age (Even though it is claimed in  Dragon Age  that elves had a higher civilization compared to humans, the current statement regarding elves in Dragon Age Wiki is contradictory)  elves are second class citizens, inferior to humans, is not the customary belief.  I can understand making the game darker and sinister, these lesser evils must exist in other to provide a grittier aspect to the game, but  the current statement, along with the reason(s) giving for the so called  new look,  is:  extreme.
