I'm refering of course to this distasteful departure in regards to their ears.
The old one is the classical Tolkein one (or if you are a SciFi man, Vulcan one). I find it easier to take the Elves seriously. In fantasy worlds I find near human and truly alien species the easiest to take seriusly since they both make sense from a evolutionary perspective. Things like minotaurs don't. I won't mention how the new Quanari are basically 4th edition Tieflings since there are plenty of threads on that.
its still pracitcally identical to humans one might say, well then why change it? I tought the rational for the change was to put more distance appearnce wise between the species, could this perhaps be just a convenient excuse for what is perhaps the real reason which I will get to in a moment.
So let me defuse people who would call the new look unique. No its not. Actually the WoW Elves at least also have freaky eyes and different skin color. And centaurs are freaking half horse critters, sillyness like Minotaurs no doubt, but in a more fairy tale setting I can find the enjoyable (they do not mesh well with gritty fantasy ala A game of thrones).
Perhaps they want to emphaises elven connection to nature with the slight Leprechaun/Centaur vibe? Wow, how original.
I suspect the real reason is to make them more cartoony, less classical fantasy generical and more video game generic. If this puts me in the old fart "I hate how they make it more like WoW camp" so be it.
Do you mean an elf like “Arwen Evenstar, Lords of the Rings? I am definitely for this one.

They are being compared to Native Americans who have been robbed by a higher power? What is there to boast (Conquering a civilization on the basis of being better than its inhabitants is barbaric, to say the least) ? The elves cannot be compared to humans because they are different beings. Albeit in Dragon Age (Even though it is claimed in Dragon Age that elves had a higher civilization compared to humans, the current statement regarding elves in Dragon Age Wiki is contradictory) elves are second class citizens, inferior to humans, is not the customary belief. I can understand making the game darker and sinister, these lesser evils must exist in other to provide a grittier aspect to the game, but the current statement, along with the reason(s) giving for the so called new look, is: extreme.
