I was wondering what everyone thought of BioWare's decision to introduce a new race in the LotSB DLC. Did you like it? Did you think it was a bad move? What are your reasons for your opinion?

Personally, I like it. The races we've been introduced to before now can't be the only ones out there, after all. I also like it because it brings a sense of scale to the galactic timeline. For example, on going back to replay ME1, I was surprised to discover that the newest race to join galactic society before the humans were the Turians. Turns out they joined galactic society during the Krogan Rebellions. I'd forgotten that.

What is your opinion on the subject?

I like it as well.

Some have an issue with it because they believe its a gimmick or a cop out, they would prefer if a known faction/person/species was the actual Shadow Broker.

I really don't think it matters who the shadow broker was and actually furthers the plot more by being a literal "nobody". Without the Yahng it is much harder to explain why no fail safes were set up, especially if the SB had been an organization or group, not a single being.

With the Yahng as SB you can easily see why he had no ' just in case I die" precautions. Yahng believe everyone is a subordinate and the fact that they make Krogan look like fluffy pet-able kittens would lead to a lot of over confidence.

You know, your statement about him not having any 'just in case I die' precautions just explained why he didn't have any. I'd wondered about that, but in hindsight, I should have seen the reason. The two facts simply didn't click together until you mentioned them. Thank you.

As it is, I like the idea that there are races out there that we haven't met because they haven't achieved space-flight yet. Suddenly, the galaxy seems like a much bigger place. Not a bad result for introducing a single character.

I liked the yahwg until he stood up and became a rolly fat guy with horns. sitting down he was like the godfather, a total badass.

the whole relay system means that we essentially don't have a clear picture of how huge the galaxy is. because the galaxy is really really big... You could have at least a hundred relay systems overlapping/ interweaving each other without any of them noticing. i would be not at all surprised to have thousands of other sapient species in the galaxy. why they're all humanoid though, that I'm not so sure on.

also, strategy thread topic? :/

I like the Yahg. Yahg seem to be a concept in the Sci-fi archetype tree that Ive never seen before. They seem to be the indisputable badguys that you cant feel sorry for no matter what they do are has been done to them.

Also. Yahg vs Krogan. Who'd win?

I had mixed feelings at first because I did wonder whether the idea was just thought up at the last minute, but I think Bioware has thought about it for some time. If you do Kasumi's loyalty mission, you will see a statue of a Yahg in Hock's vault. I was surprised when I went back there and recognized it, but glad that it shows they had the idea for the Yahg before LotSB.

Only Bioware can pull something from their asses and make it gold.

I was very happy with the fact that the Shadow Broker was not just a character that had already been introduced, as many had speculated. That would have made no sense. What Bioware decided to go with was more in keeping with Sci Fi traditions. Worked perfectly for me. Especially Liara needling him about the fact that he started out as a slave.

Neutral about it, not enough data to reach conclusion.

You mean this statue? http://i39.tinypic.com/zo9o4l.jpg
If so, that's a statue of the Ogre from Dragon Age. Not of a Yahg.

Edit: I got ninja'd. D:

I liked the Yahg. Up until then, I'd thought that he'd just be some kind of pencil-pusher, but instead he's a mega-predator whose ferocity puts a Krogan to shame. Definitely didn't see that one coming.

At least it wasn't Conrad Verner.:pinched:

Considering that he knocks out Grunt by throwing half of his table at him, I think the Yahg wins.:P

The only problem I have with it is the name.

"Yahg"?

To me, it sounds like an alien from Spaceman Spiff. Granted, with a fancy spelling, but... Spaceman Spiff, people.

I was wondering of nearly everyone's ability on here to misspell the title of every post. Did you like it? Does it drive you insane? What are your reasons for not knowing how to type/how to look up a word?

My question is how long do they live? I don't recall reading about their longevity in the Codex. He had been in power for 60 years, so that's kind of a base line. Do we know what his age was before he toppled the last SB?

Personally i liked it however my only issue was that they were kinda like the Krogan in the sense that they were all big, scary and could probbably rip you limb from limb, however they also have amazing intelligence, now i just found that to be out of place for such a creature, i'm not saying its a bad idea, just a wierd concept.

True, but remember that in the dossiers you can read about how this Yahg was unique in that he was smarter than the average Yahg, and learned at a rapid rate.

Yeah I'd like to see a few more weird species like hanar/elcor, instead of more humanoids.

There have been *many* races that joined up with the Council since the Turians. The most prominent were the Volus, but there's also the Elcor, the Hanar, the Drell... Just because they don't have Council representation does not mean that they're not a part of galactic society.

It is nice that they picked an obscure and 'new' race for the Shadow Broker, but it would also be nice to see some more new races on the Citadel. Hopefully in ME 3.

Yes but in the dossier he was made out to be amazingly clever, now even if he is smarter than your average Yahng then the average ones must still possess remarkable intelect for a apex predator of such size. Which begs the question, if so clever, why do they shun galactic community?
