Sort of TL;DR. I really hope this doesn't turn into Star Wars where species are a dime a dozen. I'd rather have BioWare focus on maintaining a few, richly detailed species than toss in a new species for every different chapter in the plot. It takes WAY more creativity to work with your current species rather than come up with a new one every time you can't think of which one would be best suited to pin the tail on.
I agree. I would much rather that ME had a few alien species to add lots of detail about their culture/planets/ect then dozens of races that are just a rotating “alien of the week” deal.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked the SB’s design. However if integrating the Yahg (or any other new alien race) into the game means retiring the other alien races to the back shelf, I would really, really dislike it.
Personally I wished the SB was an already established race. A krogan would’ve been a nice twist.

Really? Personally, I'm glad it's not an existing race. I was getting sick of the trend of having every position of power being filled by the same three races, over and over.

I liked the Yahg. Up until then, I'd thought that he'd just be some kind of pencil-pusher, but instead he's a mega-predator whose ferocity puts a Krogan to shame. Definitely didn't see that one coming.
At least it wasn't Conrad Verner.Considering that he knocks out Grunt by throwing half of his table at him, I think the Yahg wins.Just_mike wrote...
Yahg vs Krogan. Who'd win?
Well that was sort of a surprise move, if Grunt threw a table at the Shadow Broker he'd probably be pretty dazed too. The Yahg are gigantic, don't get me wrong, but the Krogan would be more than a match one on one. They are much bigger than they appear, the illusion of them being smaller due to the placement of they're eyes/head. Taking into account the hump on the Krogan's back, they are around 7 feet tall. Plus with bloodrage and redundant organs, I'd say hand to hand the Yahg are in for a losing battle against a Krogan (lets not forget that the SB got his butt kicked by Cyborg Shepard, who is a little weaker than a Krogan). The Yahg are much smarter it seems, however, so that is a slight advantage over Krogans.

Having the Yahg as a bigger badder race than the Krogan is to me a bit of lazy writing, instead of having some well written character, we'll just put in something even meaner....
...which means next time Bioware'll have to think up something bigger and badder...
So where does it stop, a 100ft 30ton monster? This is how those stupidly large swords appear in games, being lazy and out-biggering something rather than thinking how to use something better.

I think a Yahg could own a Krogan. The SB throws his entire metal desk at Shep and Liara, while the Krogan on Grunt's recruitment mission exerts himself just lifting a sheet of metal. Also the Broker didn't get his butt kicked by Shep, the punches only seemed to briefly stun him- then bam!- one swipe from the SB sends Shep and Liara flying!

As supplanting the Krogan as the biggest, baddest, most vicious and powerful race around, not so much. The Krogan have always been built up as not only fast breeders but also the toughest of the tough, and now they're relegated to second place. The Krogan, which have so much more history and relevance, have ceased to be anywhere near as special. They might be able to breed faster, if you give them a cure, but why not just go with the Yahng if you don't? (Story reasons aside.)
So, nay. I don't like that the Shadow Broker was a new race that surpasses the Krogan in their primary virtues (and faults). If the Shadow Broker had just been a bigger, smarter, unique Krogan, that would have been just as good, if not better.
I also don't like a third all-knowing Illuminati Group as well, but that's another thing.

Well we've seen how a bloodraging Krogan can plow Shepard into the ground. All I'm saying is that it would be more even of a fight than people think.
The difference between the two races is this though: Krogan evolved due to a highly dangerous enviroment and eventually became extremely deadly themselves because of it. The Yahg ARE the dangerous enviroment on their planet. Both are highly adapted to combat, but the Yahg are designed to be the ultimate Predator, while the Krogan are designed to be the ultimate Survivalists.

I was expecting a really cool revelation once the SB was identified; instead we got a "really scary big alien guy with nasty teeth, yar!"
I was just like, "Seriously...?" when I saw him stood up.
Then my eyes fell out of their sockets because I rolled them so hard when I saw the absurd shield.

And, as a side effect, the Krogan would win. That's what health regen is for. The Yahg, unfortunately, don't have the survival aspects of the Krogan. And they are slow enough that the Shadow Broker could barely land a punch on Shepard. Not impressed, the Krogan are still more awesome.
