This isn't so much a spoiler as it is a general enquiry. However, I have added possible spoiler to those that have not yet reached this battle and would not like to read about it.
Did anyone have any problems with this battle? I am currently running my character (rogue hunter), Wynn, Alistair and the Dwarf guy you got in Orzammar. I just get absolutely annihilated once I enter the little room with Devena and about 3 archers and 5-6 guards. Everything is so close quarters, and I can't manage to kill most of the guards. I am playing on normal difficulty and I just take too much damage to outheal and outpotion. I was forced to reduce difficulty to easy to get past this fight. Just wondering if anyone else had problems?

Yes, this is a ridiculous fight on normal, without the possibility of being tactical, because it's prefaced with a cut-scene. I tried to get to the door opposite, but was immediately stunned.
Letting the battle run, my party was taking about five times as much damage as just four of the opposition, never mind the archers behind the traps and tables.
I don't know what kind of levelling balance system is used, because I haven't yet looked at the toolset, but if each of the enemies is one or two levels above party and there are twelve against four, without the possibility of hiving them off, the result is inevitable.
I know, switch to easy.

I also think this battle is insanely difficult. I'm not sure how to beat it on normal and I've tried many many times.

You need to break the foe into tasty bite sized morsels. Crowd control and use of walls are key here. The archers can not hit what they can not see. So, if possible, move out of their line of fire. Tempest, Blizzard or Inferno are great here. Sleep absolutely rules. Glyphs can be used to great effect as well.

She's the Tevinter elf you encounter during the Alienage quest before you meet Caladrius.
There's a persuade check to avoid the fight, but I can't recall if she just leaves and you never have to fight her or if she joins Caladrius if you end up fighting him.

Holy Smite & War Cry with superiority does wonders.

Arrow Of Slaying & earthquake on the area behind the table where the archers are helps too.

If you have Shale in your party, set her in Rock Mastery Mode. The archers are very weak in up close combat so knocking them off their feet with Shale's boulders for a few moments allows your damage dealers to get up close.

Ok so I cam here looking for answers and found none but I just beat this fight on normal. It is extremely difficult but here's what I did.
I was playing as a level 19 Rogue/Ranger/Duelist and I took Wynn, Morrigan and Sten.
Right off the bat make sure you have Morrigan and Wynn auto heal anybody under 50% health. I also have Morrigan as an offensive mage and Wynn as a defensive. Immediately run everybody to the left and hide them behind the wall parallel to the bear traps and where Devera snipes from and have them alt movement. Keep Wynn and Morrigan in the back and try to keep everybody focused on you and Sten. Best tactic I found was to have Morrigan use tempest on the archers followed by Fireball. You can try Glyph of Paralysis on some of the soldiers but the close quarters makes it hard. If you have a rogue, place him behind enemies so he can backstab. Then basically take out the foot soldiers as your party will be shielded from the archers. Devera moved when I did tempest to the corner directly to the left when you first come in the door but she was not a real threat. after all the soldiers are dead take Sten and your character and focus on Devera, then mop up any archers that may be left, I used tempest again while fighting Devera and they all died. I only lost Sten in the battle but this tactic worked for me. Just remember to auto heal and USE HEALTH POULTICES!

I never fight her - you can just persuade her away.
Then again I never resurrect year-old threads either.
