Hi Latiro

As far as Depth of Field is concerned, I can tell you what I tend to do for the most part though the best way to find out is to experiment by starting off with the default settings and work your way from there.
There are seven settings in the Depth of Field object inspector
(info here)I won't mention anything about
far fade and
near fade as I haven't been able to manipulate these correctly as of yet. For the most part the rest will do the job you need.
The setting I usually use in general when it comes to more confined small environments is:
Maxblur set to 0.7
(in my opinion the larger and farther the area and closer the object is to the camera, the higher the blur)
Weight Blur set to 1 or a bit less.
What you will want to experiment with will be the
focal radius and
focus distance, as these should provide the effect you are looking for.
Focus distance refers how far away from the camera is the object you would like to focus on.
Focal radius generally is the setting for how "wide" you want the focus area to encompass. (for more characters in a shot for example)
If you imagine an actual camera with a zoom lens, as you turn the lens you focus on various objects depending on their distance from the camera. This would be the same thing rendering the stuff behind it somewhat blurred.
If you have one character that is close to the camera you could try setting focus distance to 1 and seeing if the character is sharp and clear. The same goes for radius. Try to find the setting where the objects you would like to focus on become clear and sharp as opposed to the rest of the objects in the shot.
By the way I am not sure if you have utilized this function, but if you click on two combined animations, right click and select
add transition, you may have a smoother transition in some of the animations you have combined, limiting the amounts of forced camera cuts to hide the animation combos.
All of these by the way are the way I work and aren't neccessarily the "right" way to work. Each person develops their own preferences with time and experience

In any case I wish you tons of luck in Game design study! I do wish I had that type of field when I went to school!!
