Well, Ashley was all annoying and rascist and trying to be poetic, and Kaiden was boring and all like 'I understand you, because I have...feelings....like you..." or something like that....so it was a tough choice to decide who to kill. In the end, I decided to save Kaiden, becuase his head bump makes me laugh.

Kaiden was boring, it's a shame that he shares his voice with Carth Onasi. I only saved Ashley because I couldn't let a lady die.

ME1´s story was def. amazing, but i really think kaidan and ashley were just par characters. I think the decision was equal unless you had a love interest then kaidan was the obvious choice. Now if you really wanted a sad ending then at that point you send your love to die. That is just too sad of an ending. I wonder who has done that

Making Ashley come to light with accepting aliens as actual friends/squad mates and f/f romance. I was upset when I found out the romance was taken out & you couldn't do it in the game. Kaiden felt like to me that he was about to go all psycho on the ship & it was just a matter of time before that could possibly happen.

Played only through once (me1) and saved Ashley, why?
Pure tactical/rp-wise/momentum choice..

Kaidan was arming the nuke and ashley whined for backup.
I thought allright Kaidan may handle himself, and he INSISTED I should go with ashley and salarians. That's why I saved (read: choose) Ashley.

My biggest respect fer Kaidan. I couldn't choose him over personal liking, (i even didn't thought which I like more or smth - i am too much in the game at that time)
I'm a fricken commander Shepard and can't play emo games who is my fav puppet. (tho one of them LI may change a little my options but either was - for example in ME2 I did everything to keep Tali safe, tho not trying to show it out that much)

If Ash would have died I wouldn't have felt such guilt as I did with Kaidan. I was later like daaarn. Kaidan, sorry - I drive to make universe better and myself better because of you, u were my bro and a hero!

And I'm glad I didn't have Ash with me in ME2 - he would have reminded me too much that I had Kaidan in my team and would have started to hate Ash I think + saving the galaxy would have been problematic then cause of my personal problems... Couldn't just throw Ash out of the airlock you know

So I choose because of tactical/military-wise considering situation I had. And I never thought Kaidan won't make it - I really thought well of him. He sounded much more confident and calmer and insisted going for Ash.. I trust a man...
cannot trust a woman (joking:P) to hold the line, right ?

besides, RP wise it's playing off now. I was too much paragoniimho playing the game. Now I randomly get anry and slap/shoot some ugly dudes before I am diplomatic if they seem really annoying and bad. That's fer Kaidan I think.
 I never kill innocent ppl tho etc., most evil acts are not in my nature, but beating up someone or yelling at them is ok..

RIP Kaidan!
Besides, it would be real f'up if I had to battle against Kaidan in ME3, too dramatic, would like to rip Ashes head off if she crosses the line!

Chem, I laughed reading this, because those were my exact feelings the first time I got this game. So, yeah, I'm saving Kaidan, because for my only one Shepard he's someone special. No matter how many times she can tell herself "it was the right decision" (superiority of ranks and so on...), "I had to make sure the bomb goes off" (because what if he falls and the geth manage to do something?).
From the story perspective, for me, Ashley's death has more sense, thou leaving her was difficult.

Yeah, I think we've all tried to convinced ourselves, "That we were protecting the bomb!"  Virmire:  BioWare's morality tale on fraternization.  

And I always imagined Ash being the type of person who would want to die with her boots on.  Big mission, regains her family's honor, perfect ending for her if her life has to end.

I always save Kaidan because I like him better than Ashley. I don't think Ashley is racist or anything and I don't hate her either. I still don't like that she makes those comments about the aliens. I also don't understand why is it that people say Kaidan is a whiner, I never heard anything that sounded like whining IMO. That's just me though.

Yeah I think Ashley is either racist or probably intolerant, more than likely the latter. I think the reason why people say Kaidan is a whiner is that he seems kind of wimpy. But yeah I always Kaidan.

1. Kaiden is voiced by the same person that voiced Carth. I just can't kill Carth, man.



2. ASHLEY FREAKING KILLED WREX! That just... ugh. I was going to do Wrex's mission after Virmire, and I hadn't leveled up Charm high enough... I had to load a save from some time in Noveria just so I could get it up and save Wrex.

I just finished another playthrough of ME1 over the weekend in which I romanced no one, and I must say the Virmire choice really annoyed me. If you are not romancing anyone then there is no reason to save one over another really, and just seems incredibly contrived.



I mean, hell, I should have been able to order the squaddie not to arm the bomb, or like leave a squad of soldiers back at the bombsite to guard it. It's a case of 'Pointless Drama' to me, though YMMV of course.

I saved Kaidan because he is more useful with all his abilities than Ashley. When I romanced Ashley in one playthrough, I saved her, but then I wanted to romance Liara in both ME1 and LotSB so I let Ash die that time. Besides, Ashley is a racist.

They should have extended Kaidan's personality, and his background a bit more - he was a background character, he never really did much or speak much, and when he did he didn't stand out like the other characters. I liked the fact he had Carth Onasi's voice actor from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, however. But Ashley was wild, quite interesting and she helped me more in my squad on Insanity more than Kaidan did.  But then...Ashley is a bit racist, she even kills Wrex, if you don't have enough charm/intimidate

Kaiden is far more paragon, which is what my Shepard is - I have some sort of delusion that saving the more paragon of the two will help me later, but who knows? I also romanced Liara, so the two of them had the same playing level in terms of which would have more use.

Actually, Ashley volunteered to assist the Salarian team on Virmire quite happily. Seriously, remember its her talking to Kirrahe in the opening scene, once assigned to work with them she got along quite well with them as well, demonstrating a respect for their skill and determination.

Let it be clear, Ashley isn't an alien hater. She's a cynic and a realist when it comes to trusting foreign powers to look out for humanities interests rather than that of members of their own species. When she meets actual alien haters (i.e Terra Firma) she doesn't like them, in fact she rather actively opposes them.
Plus at one point in an elevator conversation she mentions to Tali that humans are angry at the Quarians for the Geth attack on Eden Prime and hopes that Tali helping them out against Saren will improve relations between humans and Quarians.

Plus if need be, when you romance her you are given the option to convince her to be more open minded with her views of the galaxy and how alien races and humanity can work together.
