1. You save the salarians regardless.

2. I think they both die with a lot of class. I prefer Ash's though because her family stops being blacklisted.

Mostly though I kill Ash because in death she's perfect. The perfect solider, the perfect woman, the perfect Williams.

Ashley drives me completely nuts so she bites it every time.

I think Kaiden's boring as all hell, but at least he isn't an obnoxious, racist, ignorant fool like Ash is IMO. (Sorry Ashley lovers...please don't hurt me.) *Hides under desk*

I saved Ashley just so I can see her face when in front of her I romance Tali

And you know what? Tali would enjoy it.

I choose to save Ashley. I felt that Kaiden's story and his character were "complete" in a way. From what I remember, he came to terms with his past. Ashely, on the other hand, continued to try to define her place, restore her family's name. In others words, I didn't think it was her time yet.

First Shepard saved Kaiden because they were lovers and she just couldn't

Second time was Ashley because she was the only chick on board and this shep was a sexist horny bastard who only cared about getting some. Dumped her ass as soon as Liara showed up lol.

3rd time I just flipped a coin because neither one of them do anything for me.

I saved both, but Kaiden reunion scene in ME2 had written gay all over it. Eh, Normandy opening scene too for that matter. So yea Ash from now on excpet if I'll somehow make myself play femShep.

umm how so?

no, don't say Ashley's armor, that's not reason enough.

Tough choice, I like both. Ashley reminds me of that tomboyish girl in grade school that tries to punch you cause she likes you. Kaidan reminds me of me without biotic powers. On my canon I left him because he was better suited to arm the nuke, but I have as many playthrus of him surviving as Ashley. My Spacer Survivor Sentinel saved Ash because she was the LI. The other playthrus.... is just mixing and matching for different results.

No, it's not Ashley's armor but that definitely doesn't help. It's a mixture of background music and Kaiden's whiny voice.

I wanted to have an emotionally scarred Shep, so I had him fall for someone under his command (Ashley), then order her to her death to rescue the superior officer.

Most times I save Ashely because she is with the bomb (Kaiden, the officer, goes with Kirahe's team) and Shep needs to secure the bomb.

The joy of multiple playthroughs.
My first run of ME I went with Kaiden solely to break the "always save the girl" ideology.
My second run I got to know Ashley as a person. That and having got Kaiden before made me choose saving her the second time.
Now both those times before I went with ManShep. For my FemShep run I'm planning on saving Kaiden, but my mind is really on whether should I romance him or Liara-no ****** of course.(lol)

I saved Kaiden becuse I dont like racists (sup Ash) and I wanted to make sure bomb goes off. Neither of them was ever in my squad except Eden Prime tho.

Ash ofcourse. In ME 2 it's just seems so gay when Kaidan starts yelling and complaining why Shepard didn't contact him. Ashleys death is more emotinal and poetic and she gets to redeem her family name, but if you let her live, I think she still finds a way to do it.

You don't like racists yet you have for an avatar the character who openly demands genocide of an entire race for something that happened three hundred years ago and believes that said race 'not being like us' justifies it?
Machine or not, Geth are concious and self aware, that makes them a race.

Seriously, if you want to play the comparison game then Tali is the bigger racist that Ashley. Ashley might have been concerned about the alien foreign nationals aboard the Alliance Normandy but she never expressed a desire to kill Garrus on the basis of him being a Turian. Same can't be said for Tali in response to Legion.

As it stands Ashley was only ever a cynical realist who didn't think it was wise to expect the Council races to help humanity in the long run, and her reasoning behind this came from her bad family history in the First Contact War. Everything else people tend to say about Ashley is something they made up to sound so much worse than it is ( Textbook victim of Ron the Death Eater).

For what it's worth, Ashley still happily volunteers to assist the Salarians on Virmire, doesn't want anything to do with Terra Firma and opposes their leader very vocally and at one point hopes for improved relations between humans and Quarians due to Tali's assistance in fighting Saren.
Not to mention the fact that when asked Ashley maintains that she doesn't think humanity is 'superior' which, incidently is good evidence to suggest that she's not a racist because a racist is often someone who judges other races as inferior or lesser and their own as superior (sup Tali). Ashley doesn't fit that description.

Olalala ..

Ashley isn't racist. Those who argue, have they really explore the character, where are they content with what few sentences? Looks like the views of teenagers. I feel there is much ignorance in the accusations that I read. She can be convinced elsewhere. If you arrive, at the end, she argues that the rescue of the board whatever the other team member, and the alien seeking to focus on Sovereign ..

Now I understand why Mass Effect 2 became shallower than M1. With so few players exploring a game so rich, so subtle in Mass Effect 1, refuses to even off, I understand that we have decided to simplify things.

I think we should even make a game with the good guys on one side and the bad of the other, especially not more, to reflect the Manichaeism of our beloved community.

Speaking of racists - (I just got this on my last play-through for the first time) it is hilarious watching Wrex agree with the Terra Nova candidate in the Wards, while the Terra Nova guys keeps telling him to butt out of human affairs.

I let Ash die because.. I find her very off-putting in every way as a person. She seems genuinely dumb, narrow minded, arrogant, trying too hard to be one of the guys and so on. I even find her appearance to be unsympathetic. She is just that kind of a person which I could not stand in real life.

Always saved Ash, never was a fan of Kaiden. Only played with Kaiden to get the achievement. As soon as I got it, I switched squadmates for the remainder of the game.

Saved ash because i'm a man...... simple.I never played as a girl, tried..but just cant. Plus... as a man...if i saved kaiden, either he would brand me a gay, or he would shoot me later for letting a hot soldier girl to die. (well... if i wrote the story)

oh yes..... he kinda creeps me out man! (because i am a male shaperd of course..wouldn't want all you kaiden lovers to hunt me) Honestly...

In my first playthrough, it was the hardest choice of the entire game for me. I think I spent around 5 or so RL minutes mulling over it. It would've been more agonizing if Bioware had added some sort of in-game impetus to force a quicker decision from the player, such as explosions in the background closing in on the player or something similar. It would've definitely made for a more regretful experience rather than making the decision and coping with it before you carry it out.

Anyway, as I was saying, it took me about 5+ minutes to make the decision. I didn't base my decision on class, I didn't base it on beliefs, and I didn't base it on romance. My Shepard was an open-minded Adept who was romancing Liara. Although I considered many lines of reasoning and I liked both characters seemingly evenly, what it came down to was the importance of the objective. I ended up saving Kaidan, who was guarding the nuke. Likewise in my second playthrough, Ashley was guarding the nuke, although she happened to be that Shepard's LI at the time too. That decision was easier though, since it was methodical.

It's gotta be Ash everytime. I know she can be annoying in some of her earlier dialogue but she gets better with time. Kaiden is bland, bland, bland and with the exception of the playthrough I just did to get the acheivement, he's gonna buy it everytime. Talking of that last playthrough, OMG how much of a whinning @#$%£ does he sound complaining during the forced drop of the Mako on Virmire? That alone made me want to throw him out of the airlock to use as a marker to drop the Mako on.
