I have killed Ash every time, but once. The honest reason is I really don't like Ash...she's snarky, b*tchy, bigoted, all round not a nice girl...also the one time I did save her, in ME2 Kelly assumes my manshep had something going with Ash (Liara was his LI), that bugged me to no end, given my dislike of Ash.
But if asked to cite reasons from Sheps point of view....he makes a military decision in saving Kaiden, Kaidens the ranking officer and Shep also needs to make sure that bomb isn't tampered with....he doesn't know that he's a Mary Sue and the bomb will go off regardless of what he does.
Your honest reason for saving ashley or Kaiden?

Just for option select, I kept a mix of Sheploo and femShep saves with different VS.

I don't like Ash very much, but she has some of the best lines in both Mass Effect games.

At first, I let Ash sacrifice herself cause she seemed to want to so that her grandfather would be exonerated.
Then, I thought about it and realized that I liked Ash more as a character.
Since then, I've saved Ash in my "default" playthroughs.

I saved Ashley because Kaidan didn't seem so happy with his Life anyway, i never heared him talking about his family or whatever.
Ash does have a family and at all i can't sacrifie a woman ...

Sorry Prince, I disagree....I enjoyed activating comments from my squaddies whilst on missions, Ash drops a couple of cringe worthy comments that I have found (seek her comments whilst on the Citadel), her reference to Liara as 'the bug eyed monster' if you romance Liara and in ME2 she does state 'I'm no fan of aliens...etc.'....Galactic News in ME2 has a gem on her if she died on Virmire also.

Ashley was virmired every time but 1. Why? Because Kaiden was much more interesting to me.

Ive just finished both ME 1 + 2 without reloading if something goes wrong. I like playing this way because if you screw up on a decision in real life you cant change it, and It gives the decisions more weight than 'Oh a crew member died at the end of ME2 so ill reload the mission again'. I regretted giving up on Kaidan cause he was generally a nice guy, and he's had a harder life than Ashley. For someone who beileves in god, she is sure narrow minded. Telling me to kill the Rachni queen and she thinks humans should come before aliens. For those who have also played 2, Morlin died for me, I was gutted.

Metagaming reason: as a player, I saved Ash because she's my canon maleShep's LI and wanted to see the story to its end.
In-story reason: Shepard saved Ash because she happened to be guarding the bomb and he didn't want to risk having Ash being overwhelmed and the bomb disarmed by Saren. So saving her served both love AND duty.

Why i saved ashley simple i don't like alenko he is worthless.Liara is a better biotic than him and tali is a better tech. Also he reminds me of onasi and rand but i couldn't kill either of them so kileed him.

I love Ash, she is a strong minded beautiful woman. She does have her own issues but she bears them all wonderfully. Ash is also a good soldier and provides the heavy firepower I need in many situations. I have always rescued Ashley, she is always my love interest and I have never cheated on her

I actually made a command decision. I had sent ashley with the STG. I wasn't going to pick one person over an entire squad.

Ashley is of less value overall. Kaiden is an officer and a Biotic, wheras Ash is more or less a grunt. Sucks, but there it is.

There is a strong philosophy I follow.
Save the one you're sleeping with.
Therefore, Ashley was saved and I was loyal in ME2

Well in 6 playthroughs, I chose Ash 5 times. 4 of those times were because my Shep's reasoning is that the Geth reinforcements can't get the chance to disarm it, so really I always run back and save the person with the bomb, regardless of who that is. I know they're both Alliance military, and that Kaidan is actually the tech specialist, but I always sent Ash to arm the bomb even though Kaidan might be a little more qualified. I dunno, I guess she was more persuasive to have me let her do it.
So therefore, that is why Ash gets saved the most. Oh and the other 1 time Ash got saved was both because the bomb had to be defended and I was also sleeping with her.
And then the 1 time I saved Kaidan was because I was going to jump his bones. (It was also the only time I saved the other person instead of going back to defend the bomb.)

Kaidan and Garrus were my bros in ME1. Bros before hoes. I felt bad when Ashley died though ... it was indeed a tough decision.
As others mentioned, I didn't like Ashley being religious, but she didn't try to force it on others, so that's ok for me ;-)

I didn't mind the religion so much. but the Xenophobia?
It was a clever idea by Bioware, and it created an interesting character and some great plot points. But in the end... KABOOM!!
