My main Shepard romanced Liara (she's way cuter than Assface... and she has tentacles!) so for me it was a practical decision. I had Kaidan lead the squad for the salarians since he was an officer with experience leading people and sent Ashley to rig the bomb. So when it came time to choose between the two, I felt that the bomb took priority and I had to make sure that thing went off, so I ended up saving Ashley by default.

And yes, I'm aware that she rigged it to explode regardless but we're playing in a milieu of hacking and on top of that, geth were descending on the area and if anyone could hack the bomb and stop it from exploding it'd be them; I couldn't let that happen.

My first playthrough I decided I wanted to save Kaiden because he was actually a useful member of my usual party, and I I never took Ashley on any missions.. only I ended up doing exactly what you described! I hadn't been actively pursuing any romances, so was taken a bit by surprise when my man Shep ended up sleeping with her!

Of course second playthorugh I planned it slightly better, and played as a fem Shep who romanced kaiden (and saved him sucessfully that time, although I didn't use him much in missions that playthrough, so it was all about the romance!)

Try checking the posting date....I can't get over my intial sh*t fit, grow up and start thinking about it instead of just reacting?...Though sitting here re-examining my words, yes I do see her as making a number of nasty unwarrented comments, that makes her rather unpleasent and have stated also in the other thread that I believe her to be a bigot...if I had remembered her nasty comments in the other thread, I would have made mention of that also, just with much more diplomacy than I have done so here....My shame and foolish mistake here is running the mouth (fingers) off before the brain was in gear....generally prefer examination over provacation.

First off, plenty of aliens believe in a higher power. Hell, one assignment at the friggin begining has you fend off a preacher alien. I get that some of you hate religious people, and we should all think like you, and nobody else is allowed to have any beliefs other than what you find acceptable, but get real. And for Chrissake, she could be any other religion that believes in God at that. She only casually mentions that she believes in God once. Not like she's handing out brochures at your doorstep. And people wonder why atheist has the (not entirely true) reputation of being arrogant and ansty.

That said, I was romancing Ash a tfirst, so she was saved first playthrough. But I kinda like Miranda in the next game, and I don't wanna seem the type to play the field - I'm a one woman man.

This time, I'm thinking of resuing Kaiden. On one hand, he'd bland, and boring. Ash, at least, has a rich backstory. Plus, she's close with her family, and it would break my heart to separate them in that way. Still, she's a ****y xenophobe. And before you damn white knighters pop up, yes, she's a xenophobe. No other way arond. I get why she's like this. I really do. But she makes one too many alien jokes for my taste. And if she cuts someone off with a ****y aggressive comment, I'm leaving her to die.

...What's that? She did? Well, good luck with those salarians, I have a bomb to save.

I save Ash on every play through I do and for two simple reasons; 1: Kaidan is totally uninteresting in my opinion, and 2: I want to romance her, lol. I only play as Femshep and haven't had to chance yet, so I wait...hopefully I'll get my shot in ME3!

I have reasons for saving either.

Kaidan because he is on the bomb. Objective comes first.
Ashley because she is with the Salarians(non meta gaming I was under the assumption saving her also meant saving the Salarians. I didn't know they lived no matter what)

I like both their characters. Depending on the story I'm making for my Shepard I save either or.

I think on who I save is split about 50/50. I play mainly male shep too. I have one fem shep.

I hate them both, but I hate Kaiden less, so he usually lives. It may help that I have a buddy named Caiden who happens to be pretty much the opposite of Kaiden, so he always makes me laugh a little.

Enginineer: Rescued Ash
Adept: Rescued Ash
Infiltrator: Rescued Kaidan
Sentinel (Male): Rescued Ash
Vanguard: Rescued Kaidan

Easy enough decisions when thinking of combat/tech/biotics.
Sentinel was the only one different because they're both good in a balanced team with him... so I picked the one he could romance (and was romancing).

First play through I saved Ash because I had a romance going on with her and wanted to see it through. After that Kaidan began to annoy me. His voice sounds very similar, but I can't quite place it. Either way I you have to make a choice and I chose to save the character I wanted to see continue in the game.

Yes, I admit it: I meta game. I save Kaidan because I find that Ashley's sacrifice actually accomplishes something: the unfair tarnish on the Williams name is wiped clean.

. . . well, that and the fact that I love Kaidan's voice and character. :-P

Hrm..... Honestly i think the first time around i saved Kaidan because he was with the bomb, and i looked at it from a tactical point of view, bomb has to blow dudes.. I did take a few minutes though, to sit there and think to myself: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! WHAT AM I DOING?! WHHHHHY!!!!?!!?!!!!!

After that though, and after exploring all dialogue with both Kaidan and Ash, paragon and renegade, i tended to save them depending on who i liked better. ( Which admittedly was Kaidan. ) Though i do have a couple of saves with Ash still standing.

I saved Kaidan, in all my playthroughs, mainly because of Ashley's racism comments, I don't care what justification she uses to call it "not racism" but I just do not agree with her view of the world, we don't need more hostility, and Kaidan, who had a way tougher life than Ash, learned how to control his temper, how to be polite and stay resoluted, as well as to be understanding (due to his experience with aliens in the past), and did not turn into an alien hater.
I'll always vouch for Kaidan. Even if he was a dick on ME2 xD

Ashley, because I need another girls legs to look at, and the fact that Kaiden was robtronic. Like I have said on other forums, he was the Legion "prototype" character.

I saved Ashley because I liked hearing her stories about her sisters, I didn't care for her attitude towards aliens but there was plenty of chance to tell her she was out of line. Where as Kaidan bored me to tears with his biotic boarding school story then he thought Shep was hitting on him. Thinking about saving Kaidan for a change but he has already started to annoy me.
