I saved Ashley actually much going back and forth with myself. I was literally on the "Save Ashley" or "Save Kaidan" screen for like five minutes straight trying to figure out which one to go with. I was romancing Ash but was trying not to put that as a factor in my decision. In the end I decided to save her because the Salarians were with her and I thought "The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few (Kaidan) and all that." Of course it turns out that the Salarains are saved no matter the choice (Kinda annoying) but I dont think I could ever sacrifice Ashley like that. Too good a character.
Your honest reason for saving ashley or Kaiden?

Seemed the more logical choice to save Ashley. Kaidan specializes in tech and the nuke is under assault the entire time, thus it is best to have a technician like him guarding it and ensuring it detonates. Ashley is a front-line soldier and used to commanding on the ground so she leads the Salarians, and if possible I would (canonically) extract the STG team and Williams while ensuring the detonation was imminent.
That and Kaidan bored me =P

Meh, not knowing what would happen the 1st time i started ME1 i thought i had to save Kaiden cause the bomb needed to go off.... My Li was Liara and went back to save Kaiden.. biggest mistake ever...
The whole game i never talked to Kaiden and when i spoke with Liara she said that 'there was something going on with Kaiden' that made me 'wtf?' a bit..
This time i'm saving Ash but i do want to send her with the salarians so i'll have to fight to the 'tower' i guess? And basicly i've never used Kaiden in any mission mostly Ash+Tali which give me a balanced group.

Back when ME 1 first came out I always saved the one that was the opposite gender of my Shepard even if during that playthough I was romancing Liara. When ME 2 came out then I determined it by if I was planning on romancing an ME 2 squadmate I would kill off the potential LI at Virmire so I didn't have to worry about cheating since I would then be clear in ME 1 with no LI

She may not be very xenophobic and that is not my main reason. The main reason is she believes in a god and I cant stand that in people. Hell, I kill Leliana for the same reason.
If you are any more physically/socially mature than that... May God have mercy on your soul.
And there's the typical redneck, white trash, hypocritical christian right there. He's giving his honest reason why he left Ashley on Virmire. Quit judging others like a god damn 12 year old just because they don't share the same beliefs as you do. It is time to grow up little guy.

Judging the judging judges who judge the judgmental... Well, this is fun. You have to admit Blinxx, Berkilak had a point. Hating people who believe in a god is narrow minded and bigoted. Maybe (s)he could have worded it better, but they've a point in that such attitude and hate is unbecoming of someone more mature. I mean seriously, would you think someone saying "I killed them because they believe that warp technology is feasible and I can't abide that in people," was showing sings a maturity or immature bigotry? Of course, your response really wasn't any better, showing bigotry against three groups of people in the same sentence. Not cool man. In any case, I hope you can see how Stigandr Ogaefa's comment was offensive and why someone may have reacted in the way Berkilak did. And yes, I understand why you reacted the in the way you did... it's funny how hate just seems to have a domino effect, tipping off the next block along the line until everyone's laying on ground.
Anyways, regarding letting Ash die because she believes in god, the people who choose that reason, should I also assume you don't romance Liara and would have let her die just as well? I mean, she believes in a god, so by the same standard, she's not worth your time either. Am I wrong or have I understood your reasoning adequately?
Then there's the assumption that because Kaidan doesn't speak of a god that he must not believe in one, which may or may not be true. Of the crew, Liara and Ash were the only ones to mention it, and Ash only mentioned it in an organic manner (meaning within the flow of the conversation). Nobody else's dialog really has a good point in which talk of a god would have been appropriate without coming across as trying to preach to you. Where in Kaidan's dialog would be an appropriate place to speak on the topic? Between complaining about headaches and complaining about hard instructors?

My first playthrough, it wasn't too hard: the squaddie with the nuke had disobeyed a direct order and armed the nuke without my permission, so I was not going to sacrifice another soldier to pull his insubordinating arse to safety (he may have been right: had he not armed the nuke then, he may have been overrun by geth, failing the mission miserably and dooming the galaxy. In which case he's a hero and I'm a dramatically bad CO. But there is a reason for chains of command).
In subsequent playthroughs, I knew what was coming and tried to mix it up.

I was a female Shep, so I was romancing Kaidan. It was actually quite tough, but my Shep cared more about Kaidan than Ashley.

Wow. What is up with all the Kaiden hate? I adored him the second he opened his mouth. Ok Yes, my first shepard was a female Soldier, but still. And Yes, I did love Carth in KOTOR. Raphel Sabarge was the reason I never liked playing a male Revan. From a story stand point, Kaiden was much more useful to me. My shepard was a soldier, so Ash didn't help me much. What always suprises me with Bioware games is how much I care about the charaters. Leaving Ash behind really depressed me. I love the fact she was a tough marine chick, but loved her family, God, and poetry. She was my FemShepard's best friend.
My second Playthrough (Working on it now) I made a male Shepard Sentianal. I'm planning to romance Ash, just want to see the difference in the game as different choices. I Know I'm going to be heartbroken leaving Kaiden behind. I know I'm going to get pelted with rotten fruit for this. But I love Kaiden, and Ashley. I don't think I could romance Liara. She's just so Meh. For some reason I keep getting this suspion that Ash is checking out my Male Shepard's butt as he walks through the ship..... Could be wrong, but......

It's funny because the first time I saw Ashley on Eden Prime I wanted to kill her because she didn't let ME kill any geth. She'd always steal my kills.
And finally.....the opportunity came.

I still feel bad when I kill Ashley. I feel worse when I kill Kaidan though so she usually bites the dust. Mostly it's because I like Kaidan better as a character. I find Ash can be really rigid. I don't dislike her it's just in comparison to Kaidan I prefer him.

Ashley was my ho. And a pimp protects his investments. Kaiden died.
Seriously though, call me selfish, but if that were a real life situation, I'd not let my girl die. I'd send Kaiden xD

As I (believe) I said earlier in the thread (can't remember anymore. lol), I usually sac Ashley because Kaidan has tech and biotic and I'd rather have those on my six than soldier ones, no matter how good they are.

I like to think that whoever gets left behind guts a Krogan and steals a geth shuttle while wearing it's skin.
