Your honest reason for saving ashley or Kaiden?

Kaiden also outranked Ashley, and, as a soldier, she knew that it was her duty to give her life so that others, specifically officers, could live.

When the time came to actually make the choice, however, I paused, looked at the screen for AT LEAST 2 minutes straight, and made my decision.
I decided that Ash would actually WANT to sacrifice herself to bring honor to her family name. I decided to honor her wish and went ahead to save Kaidan.
I've "regretted" that ever since and, in every playthrough where it's an up-in-the-air decision (i.e. VS is not an LI), I save Ash.
Don't get me wrong, I like Kaidan as a character, but he seemed less deep and entertaining as a character than Ash. Plus, he was never really "introduced" onto the Normandy, so I feel that his inclusion as a memeber of "Shepard's Elite Team" is somewhat called into question. Everyone else has these cool introductions. He's just sort of "there."

Same reason I killed the Council. I was really irritated with them after Virmire/before Ilos.
I guess my Shepard is a vengeful ****.

Anyways my first playthrough I saved Ashley, but that was also becuase I romanced her. However, my second and third playthroughs I chose Kaidan. The major reasons are that I feel that Kaidan is a much more level headed person than Ashley. I don't much care for Ashley's views on religion, especially during a time that space flight is a possibility, just makes the stories in the bible seem even more ridiculous. And I am seriously bothered by the fact that she is racist against aliens. Especially considering how helpful the aliens aboard the very ship have been. I don't hate Ashley's character, but I disagree with her on a lot of morals and points I suppose.
From a tactical perspective, I usually send Kaidan with the Salarians .Considering he is more trusting of aliens, i figure he would work with them better. And saving Kaidan also means saving the Salarians.

Whether he's with the bomb or the Salarians, I can make an argument as to why that's the better tactical choice. At the end of the day, Shep won't leave Kaidan behind.
It kind of adds to the RPing experience though. Shepard will tell everyone that the decision came down to tactics or rank- even Kaidan. Was that the case though? Would she forsake the better tactical decision to save Kaidan? It's interesting.
I hate this decision though. I love Ashley. She and Kaidan are always with my Shep (up until this point, obviously). I seriously wish there was a way to save them both.

She may not be very xenophobic and that is not my main reason. The main reason is she believes in a god and I cant stand that in people. Hell, I kill Leliana for the same reason.

As far as friendship goes, they both have their likable aspects. I don't pursue romantic relationships with Ashley ever, I don't like her well enough for that. So often I go with Kaidan as I find Ashley conflicting with quite a few of my own morals and principals (Racism, religious interpretations etc) and just can establish a friendship with Kaidan more easily.
So Kaidan.
Though.. is it possible to romance Ashley in ME3 if you did not in ME1? May be worth keeping my options open.

I always send her with the bomb because I can't bring myself to just leave Kirrahe and his men behind, even though to me it makes more sense sending her (the solder) with Kirrahe and leaving Kadian who has some tech abilities with the bomb.
The Horizon event in ME2 was more believable for me with Kaidan too because Shep's known him longer, he was part of your squad, whereas Ashley joined after Eden Prime.
The only thing that really bugged me about leaving Ashley was in ME2 when one of the news broadcasts quotes her as saying something about how she felt positive about working with aliens or something like that. I understood her "should we allow the aliens, as in the non-alliance people, on the ship to poke around" view though.

So, when I had to finally chose, I had the option between making sure the bomb goes off and my romance partner survives, or saving Kaidan and the Salarians (It seems as if we manage to pick the Salarians up anyway, but Kaidan will die while holding the line, so it really does not matter that much. It isnt like you kill all the Salarians.).
The bomb had to be secured, the Geth could easily hack it, and that needed to be stopped. [The AA tower was already secured, and they could hopefully hold out.] The last part is actually later metagaming on my part. At the moment when this happened I had no idea that they would survive and that the AA tower was destroyed.
I also disagree with Ashley being racist. These are new species, humanity encountered them all less than a hundred years ago, we have no idea how the galaxy works. Being careful, and mistrusting is only natural. My Shepard is usually pretty paragon, and my team is a solid bunch of folks, alien or not, and therefore I never really got into that train of thought personally.
Being religious... Well, it is pretty silly, but yeah. We are all unique, if that makes people have a few, in my opinion, silly or weird ideas, so be it. I still like her.

I seem to remember at one point Ashley tells a story where she blatantly compares aliens views of humans to that of our view on dogs. Where in a situation on who to save you would choose a human over a dog any time, even though you love your dog, it's not human. I am sorry, but that is VERY racist. You cannot compare a species that is intelligent and can communicate with other speces, is capable of space travel, obtaining a spot on the galactic council etc. as being comparable to a dog. You just can't. No matter what way you slice it, she is a bigot, and a racist.

I see so many people here on the BSN batting the word 'racist' around when talking about Ashley, that I feel the need to comment on it in her defense. I do not believe she is, or was ever intended to be seen as, racist. Her conversation with Shepard about her views on aliens is quite logical, if incredibly blunt.
To Ashley, both humans and other alien species will always choose to act in the best interests of their own species first and foremost, even if that causes harm or consternation with the others. The concept of one species as a dog is meant to portray the ridiculousness of assuming that a human being would choose to put their dog, or household pet for that matter, above themselves in any meaningful situation. We would not because we view ourselves as inherently more important.
Likewise, the many species of the Mass Effect universe also see their own kind as being of a greater value than the others. There may be parallels to the racism of today's world, but the analogy is still a poor one. A better term would be speciesist (a freakin tongue twister <_<), which is something far different. If, say many of the minorities of today had come from Mars or some other distant planet, would it be justifiable to call us racist for caring for our own needs more? Would it be fair to say the same of them? I see Ashley's attitude as cautious; perhaps overly cautious to many, as evidenced by her unpopularity, but not nearly worthy of the stigma of racism. I belive I recall the man who wrote her giving a very similar explanation for writing her as he did. Her views are one of the more philosophical moments in the series, and definitely deserve greater consideration than a simple write off.
And of course, I would be remiss to forget to mention that Shepard can, in fact, influence her feelings to some extent. She warms up to the alien squadmates in ME1 through the course of the mission, just not enough to erase her beliefs. Personally, I feel that this is where a lot of her critics get aggrivated. We are all so used to being able to jerk our companions' deeply held convictions around to 'fix' what we feel is broken in them, that we become annoyed when we can't. This is especially true for Mass Effect, where we role-play as a man or woman who works closely and intimately with aliens at all times, and shows no hesitation in doing so. I applaud Bioware for refusing to allow Shepard to completely rewire Ashley's feelings on the matter. Whether or not we can truly change her mind in ME3 remains to be seen, but I expect that she will gradually become even closer to our alien crewmembers, Garrus and Tali especially. If not, then I won't feel badly about it.
Let's also not ignore her family's past history with aliens. Her grandfather (I believe it was her grandfather) fought in the war against the Turians at Shanxi, and relinquished the base to them at the cost of his own honor. She mentions that she still feels incredibly bitter about that, which no doubt contributes to her mistrust of aliens. In fact, the recent history of Shepard's time period holds many conflicts between humans and aliens, and a persistent wariness on the parts of all involved. This is why many of the more powerful species take offense at Shepard being offered a Spectre position so soon, as it elevates humanity.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I feel strongly about this subject. If more people sat back and considered Ashley's point of view here, rather than trying to graft an inappropriate real world issue onto the matter, they might come to the same conclusion I have. Or they might persist in their belief, which is totally fine by me. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Me having this view of Ashley does not the concrete truth make, so feel free to rebut me.
Edit: I cannot believe I forgot to mention Navigator Presley!

But now i prefer to safe Kaidan, has a person he seem much better, he sound all goodness way Ashley is racist(not extremist but racist) and I disagree with religions deeply, in my opinion religions are for ignorants and they always create more problems than goods(look at history). I do not have problem with religious people has long has they are not extremist with it and respect others(i meet people who believe theres more fire in the forests in California cause the homosexuals can get marry there).
Ashley seems like a good person has long has you human, her attitude to Liara makes a great example.
On the end, Kaidan seems like a great person with a strong morality and personality way Ashley is stock in an old time thinking being racist.
EDIT:
In plus for Ashley i must say she knows her duty, she goes voluntary for sacrifice her self for the others, I m not sure if she will do so for Aliens, i believe yea, she is not that racist, i mean i dont think her dislike for aliens is above her sense for duty. Also, even if she is religiuos, i do not think she is an extremist with it, she keep it privet and doesnt seem she matters if you dont.
This say, i still prefer Kaidan has a person, the first times i play the game i safe Ashley beliving if not we we louse the bomb, on the end i think the more "right" thing to do is to safe the one with the Salerians regarles of who you prefer, cause that way you safe more lifes(knowing the bomb is going to explode no matter who you safe).
If they situation was only of who from both you safe i guess i will go for Kaidan, it feels like I know him better, or maybe the right thing to do will be to choose with luck(with a coin for example).
Greetings
