Oh yes, and I always save Ashley, in my opinion one of the best characters in the game.
I think the questions she raises about not trusting aliens, and that one time she casually talks about faith in a higher power, are too mature for some of the audience.
Her questions about trusting the aliens are valid but I wouldn't say mature. In fact, if you move forward, you see that unless Ashley gets her on board with aliens, she's going to be a huge problem. Without going into future ME games, her distrust could be detrimental and it's a pretty strong core attitude. Nothing wise or mature there. You're in a galaxy of aliens. You have to build alliances with them along the way and learn to trust each other much like living on earth we have to learn to trust other races and religions and not segratate ourselves as that has been the reason for massive death tolls..... religious issues and race issues. She actually represents that quite perfectly and if you have taken college level history you see that she's quite likely going to be the biggest detriment in playing future games. Also, how do you know she won't turn against you for trusting allies and other species with her attitude?
After I heard her little speeches, (since I didn't play the conversation aspects in my original two games) and had played the kaidan romance and got to know him, I realized he was the most balanced crew of the two, had commendations and the most mature perspective on it as well as being able to see where the council was behaving questionably at times. Ashley, too young, naive, and narrow minded without having the ability to see the broader picture was definitely the best one to sacrafice in a situation where you need your strongest team moving forward as things get tougher. I'd have tossed her even without the romance with kaiden. In fact, I will in a future run.
