Your honest reason for saving ashley or Kaiden?

Ashley is an alright character, but I like Kaidan more. Just seems like a dude Paragon Shepard would totally have a beer with. Ashley seems like that **** you knocked up who used to be hot but isn't now and can't even cook but you're stuck with her anyway. Hah, yep.

This. Also you do get an a fairly conciliatory email, again more or less identical from both characters, later on. There are better reasons for killing them on Virmire than something they don't do till the second game and then apologise for.Ferretinabun wrote...
I like the number of people saying "X was mean to me on Horizon in ME2, so from now on I always kill them on Virmire" when Ashley and Kaidan have exactly the same dialogue on Horizon.

Some playthroughs its simply to advance my relationship on one with Ashley, although I have never kept it going past two to date... I hate the tounge-lashing I recieve on Horizon, to me if she "loved me" she'd respect my choice and believe me... and besides I hate how Ashley changes to Miranda Jr in three.
Kaidan is a victim of the same feeling I have about Jacob... Good guy, but kinda just there...... Kaidan makes things weird because all of a sudden he's Bi in three and I have no interest in a relationship with a male character.

On each playthrough I can't wait to get to the vimire mission just so I can kill him.

I don't know.
You have to realize that for her...it's been two years since you "died".
Then you show up working for Cerberus...
It would be odd if she acted any other way in my opinion.
Also...this whole "Miranda Jr" makes no sense.
So what...she finally lets her hair down...and that makes her just like Miranda?
Miranda may have "dat ass"...but Ashley is in a class by herself with those lips.

A. Wiliams is a fertile human female with decent military skill - higher fertility value, less chances for anything onforseen, since she has binary level of intelligence with 1 being "Sir, yes sir!" and 0 being "Awaiting orders!", and any poetry is so fun to bust with "you're out of line" phrases )

Eventually I'll have a save game that involves Ash living, but barring another romance, none of my characters have had it make sense yet.

With that said, I have three "canon" Shepards, and thier decisions have been... (All three sent Ash with the diversion squads so Kaidan could prepare the nuke.)
Rebecca Shepard (Spacer/Sole Survivor Engineer --Assault Rifles)
She saved Kaidan and in her report she justified her decision as making sure that the bombsite wasn't overrun because Saren could not be allowed to retake the facility and its dangerous research. However, in her heart of hearts she knows that despite making what she honestly sees as the correct command decision, her feelings for Kaidan played a part in her choice and that it was a failing on her part. She will always carry that extra guilt over Ash's death.
David Shepard (Colonist/Ruthless Soldier --Electronics)
He saved Ash and never really thought twice about his choice, Kaidan was his friend and a fine officer, but Ash was dear to his heart and more importantly he could not risk the AA Tower being brought back online, the mission has to come first and one life can never be allowed to outweigh the lives of an entire squad.
Danielle Shepard (Earthborn/War Hero Adept --Electronics)
The decision of who to save tore a hole in Danielle's heart; she is honest enough with herself to admit that between their shared biotic experiences and Kaidan's quiet strength she felt far more for him then Alliance Regs would ever allow and she knew that he shared her feelings. However, in the end she had to make what she knew was the best of bad choices, and she pushed on to the AA Tower to pickup Ash and make sure that the Normandy couldn't be shot out of the sky, she honestly believes that her choice was the correct command decision and takes what little solice that she can in the fact that she didn't allow her personal feelings to either cheapen Kaidan's heroism or taint her command decisions. In her most introspective of moments, she has wondered if her relationship with Liara would have ever blossomed had Kaidan lived.

That said, I didn't exactly lose sleep about Ash skipping out on during ME2. I got enough problems without my own crew not trusting me and questioning every decision because my ship has a white/black paint job.

I recently did a playthrough where I sent Kaidan with the Salarians because I wanted his rush to save him be a bit more dramatic. Of course Saren shows up saying he can't let Shep ruin the place blah blah. My first thought was "Then why are you at the AA towers and not defusing the bomb that is going to bring down the place you feel is protecting you." lol! So yeah I think having Kaidan deal with the bomb then saving him and preventing Saren from defusing it makes more sense to me.

I liked that she was abit xenophobic, just becuase it was an interesting element to have there. Humanity are newcomers. It made it much more realistic seeing that not everyone was quite on board with the whole galatic community. Don't think it matters too much who you save outside of ME1, I never felt like you get to see them again after the first game. Yeah they are there, kinda, but they don't feel like the same characters to me.
