Kaiden has biotics and tech, Ashley does not. Guess which one dies in a fiery haze?:wizard:

Eh. I liked Ash. Just enjoyed her conversations more than I did Kaidans.

I picked Kaidan so my Shepard could have some fun (until she could get with Garrus in ME2), and also because my brother picked Ashley already so I wanted to see a different outcome, but I sort of like Ashley more.

I usually gravitate towards the female characters more and Ashley was pretty badass, she was the only chick in the first Mass Effect who acted tough and confident in my eyes and I really liked that about her. I also liked her because she was spiritual. I didn't care for her makeover in ME3 though. Don't get me wrong, I love making my characters feminine with makeup and long hair and stuff in video games but it felt out of nowhere and a little unfitting on Ash, and her hair looked especially strange when she was lying on the hospital bed.

Kaidan's nice and everything but he came off as kind of corny to me, but he's still a cool guy.

At this point I kill off Ashley in ME1 as I feel it's more worthy of her character than the bastardization of her in the later games. By 3 Ashley is a teeny boppin' mess and not the strong willed, proud human citizen she was in ME1. Not to mention her skills being bugged in ME3 and Kaiden is far more useful power-wise.

This time I'll be saving Kaiden. First two times he saved Ash.

First time because he needed her skillset more. Second time because he romanced her. Looking forward to having Kaiden around in 3 this time.

I agree by ME3 WIlliams is no longer that strong and proud warrior she was. I liked her mouthiness too. Even after three playthroughs of ME3 the only thing that comes to mind is her nagging or pouting. Then there's the whole out-for-most-of-the-game thing.

In my first playthrough as MaleShep, I had her as an LI, but that was not the only part of my logic. I also found her to be a good character in ME1. But then by ME3, I hated her and regretted my decision. In my second playthrough, I'm saving Kaidan to see the other consequences.

Purely analytical & mission-focused, which I believe is how they (Ashley, Kaiden) would want it as Alliance soldiers trying to save the galaxy & humanity.

I discard whichever is less useful to me specifically as a squadmate, at least in my mind.  So if I'm a Soldier or Vanguard, Ashley gets the boot.  If I'm an Infiltrator, Engineer, or Sentinel, Kaiden gets the boot.  Adept is tough because both are useful to me but it's usually Ashley that gets the short straw since I favor Wrex as a perpetual squadmate.  He's just too strong (good combat, high survivability, & biotics) to ignore.  I also almost never take Garrus as I find he just dies too often for my tastes so I prefer Kaiden or Tali for tech tasks.

Simple, no drama.

best regards,

Like every other decision in the game, I flipped a coin. Male or FemShep? Flipped a coin. Whether to actually do the romance? Flipped a coin. Do the rachni get to live on? Flipped a coin. Whose life do I save? I flipped a coin. It removed all guilt from these decisions on my part. It's the Dime God's fault.

I choose Ashley specifically for the story purposes of the setting I want to make. I want to induce conflict between Ashley and Shepard later on, and I need her alive to do so.

I save Kaidan every time because he complements my character build. Plus, I love his voice and he's adorable (shallow I know)

Both times I let Ashley die.

1st - Maleshep Paragon: She didn't seem to get on with some of the crew and freaked out over Liara and me. To be honest at that stage I thought Kaiden was still a closed book. He couldn't be that well adjusted...

2nd - Femshape Paragade: I had romanced Liara in my first playthrough and I felt that Selena needed some company so Kaiden was a shoe in.

My dream come true, we blow up Conrad Verner and everyone goes home happy :P

In retrospect I would have kept Ash on for ME1, In fact she is in my Second run of Karl Shepard in Me1. Karl in ME2 and 3 is still only my first play through choices.

Poor old Ash.

I usually play female.  The first time I played ME1 it took me a good 3 - 5 minuets to decide what to do.  Bottom line,  I ended up saving Kaidan because I liked him.   2nd time I again took some time deciding and saved Ashley.  Kaidan was with the bomb and after that I saved whoever stayed with it.

By the time ME2 came out, I had romanced Kaidan then left him behind more than once and did the same thing with my male Shepard who romanced Ashley,  When I do this version, I go to all of the main planets and do Virmire last.

That said, I do leave Ash behind more often, because he's higher rank and was part of my team from the beginning.  I like both of them so no matter who I leave behind, I still get a lump in my throat when I'm talking to them, and the only thing that makes it a little easier is no matter who gets left, they say they understand the reason and don't regret anything.

I like Ashley's realpolitik views, her tomboyish mannerisms, and her religious beliefs.

When I first got the choice I actually considered letting Ashley die because Kaidan's a superior officer, but then I realized that the Alliance is too top heavy for my tastes.....sorry tovarish.

But if ME1 Ashley was switched with ME3 Ashley.....well....hey Kaidan wanna have a bromance?

my first time around I romanced ash so I chose her, the second time around I didn't romance ash and still chose her. the reasoning here was that I just couldn't let her go, even if by that time I realized that ash wasn't for me in romance I still thought she was a great character

after I played me3 though I had to go back and save kaidan, because I had heard lots of good things about him in me3 and I had gotten burned for choosing ash in me1. her only heartfelt moment in me3 was when you could buy her a book of Tennyson poems to start a romance with her in the hospital. other than that it was rather bland. so I went back for kaidan, and honestly at the end of the day (in my opinion) he is the better character and is more genuine/provides more for the players experience. it took me awhile to come around to that, but kaidan is by far the better person in my opinion

I normally send Ashley with the salarians, so I always end up saving her to make sure Kirrahe lives. It also just seems epic to die defending a nuke when it goes off, but thats just my opinion... lol

Strangely enough, you can send Ash with the Salarian Team and rescue Kaidan, but the Salarians will still appear on your ship.

At the OP: Paragon: Kaidan

Renegade(Romance Ashley) Save Ash

PS: And no. Nothing to do with top/bottom choices

I alternate back and forth for different Shepards but have probably saved Kaidan a few more times than Ashley. The reasons vary from one to another - in one case I was playing a male Shepard and found myself in an apparent romance with Ashley despite not meaning to, so that was the only way to end it before ME2. Plus, now that the trilogy is complete, I find Kaidan's ME3 content a little more interesting than Ashley's.

In one case I purposely picked Ashley for maximum conflict with my "tragic Paragon" character - Ashley shot Wrex without Shepard's permission (and got chewed out for it), and I played Shepard as impatient with Ashley's suspicions on Mars in ME3. They got through the standoff during the coup, but after that Shepard let her go work with Hackett and didn't particularly want her back on the Normandy.

...by which I mean that I metagamed the decision, not that my Shepard purposely got her killed to get out of the relationship. ;)

I think the salarians always show up on the ship regardless of who goes where. The only difference I ever noticed was one time when Kirrahe died because I didn't sabotage enough of the geth's defenses on my way into the base. Maybe it also makes a difference if you set off the alarm on the other side of the base and leave it activated for the entire mission? I've never actually done that.

If we think purely analytical & mission-focused, we have to first ask: why the hell one of them needs to die?

So the Normandy can land and unload a payload from the ship like parking a car in the park, but can't provide fire support for a group os soldiers and a Normandy's crew mate? WoW!

There's absolutely no reason at all for this to happens, but we need the drama and "character connection", right?

The shame is...Kaindan and Ashley are perfect for a operative engineer, since this class builded this way is focused in disabling the opponents and Kaidan goes further on, providing crowd control.

Then Shepard and Kaidan can have a beer, sit on a couch and watch Ash doing short notice OF EVERYTHING ELSE. :D

Shame one of them is forced to die, I pretty much care more about the aliens not the humans, but I'm very curious what a Kaidan/Ash party would respond to Charles Saracino.

Plus we could create a true racist Shepard (for roleplaying purposes of course, I don't support racism and sexism in any form).

I save Ashley because I like the relationship between her and Femshep. I find her more interesting than Kaidan, and I like having more girls on my squad anyway (the first time I played ME, I always chose the female squad members and called my team #GIRLSQUAD).

I've saved Kaidan twice just for some variety, and to see what the rest of his story is like. Still don't find him that interesting.

I save Kaiden (mostly), simply because he don't have much; no family, no significant other and the only friends that he has are those on the Normandy. I see it as a way of giving him the chance to create a legacy and put his name in history, by becoming one of those who helped stopped the Reapers, which will also give him a sense of purpose.

Ashley on the other hand; I honestly don't really like her, she's too self entitled, that being said though, I think that her name still has some weight due to all of the posthumous awards, Kaiden doesn't get this.

I normally except that Alenko Ashley before, but sometimes also changes this,Alenko seems less interesting character for me, but as everyone has his too, you could say that Ashley thinks very differently from the way I act  ME1,so always good to have someone in the group to take you or did the opossite if another perspective

first time I played, I was trying to talk Wrex down... when all of a sudden; BANG!!!! Ashley shoots Wrex.

My only reasonable thought when the time came..."LET HER BURN"

so I usually save Kaiden which has become a habit even though I haven't let wrex be killed since that first play-through. I'll save Ashley next time I start the trilogy over and see how it differs in the following games.
