So, I saved Ashley on my male Shep playthrough, got past Mars, got Ash in the hospital, and was literally so annoyed by her that I had to go back and start a female trilogy playthrough to get my Kaidan fix. (Cuz he's my guy.
) Anywho, I'm almost finished with ME3 with her, and I'm really considering going back to Virmire with my male Shep to save Kaidan. Ashley was like nails on a chalkboard in the very short interaction I had with her. (And I also really wanted a total bro scene where male Shep and Garrus drank and bonded while talking about women.)
Your honest reason for saving ashley or Kaiden?

"Whose voice is the most annoying for the times when I HAVE to talk to them?"
To be honest, I always find Mark Meer and Brandon Keener voice the most annoying for me. But I don't usually go to their threads and complain about them either. I pretend BroShep didn't exist and I let Garrus die at the Collector's Base if I want to.
I love both voice actors, but liking this for the honesty. ![]()

I had a couple reasons for NG+ and other new games.
1. She was a soldier, and I was an adept and with tali i had a balanced party.
2. Kaiden annoyed me a bit more. As long as I didn't romance her, she annoyed me less. With romance I want her dead because I can't stand all of her quoting.
First play through, I had her guarding the bomb. I felt it was more logical to go back to her to make sure she did not get overrun before the bomb was set as that was the mission. Just how I interpreted the scene.

lol @ the posts on the very first page. its like people talk without thinking about what they are saying.
honest reason for saving ashley the very first time was because i played most of my missions with her. and that was because I was a Sole Survivor and saving ashley on eden prime felt a bit like what I would have experienced on akuze, or maybe it would have anyway. idk. but it was like a channel thru which i could relate to her more than kaiden. kaiden seemed to hide personality all the time; only giving up bits and pieces on rare occasions which i can appreciate as differences among people but it is what it is. i just couldnt relate to him as well as ashley.

He was guarding the bomb, and to my Ruthless "the mission comes first" Shep, it made more sense to get back to the bomb site and ensure that there was no way the Geth could disarm it. So I told Ash to give them hell. And Kaidan was the demolitions expert, Ash says that initially when you meet Kirrahe.
Also, Carth is my homeboy.

Well, to be honest, I tried and failed to like Ashley. If I liked her, probably in one of my millions of playtroughs I would have saved her too, even if it would break my heart to kill Kaidan. But no, I just can't stand her, and that tends to reflect on my characters. Unless I'm playing a 100% paragon, I usually yell at her most of the time.
For role-playing reasons, she aways second guesses the commander, and she is not very nice to everyone. Plus, there's the xenophobic comments. And in Virmire, and as was stated here before, it makes more sense to protect Kaidan who is the bomb specialist, to make sure the mission succeeded. Sure, she has some redeeming moments, but If I put them in a scale with all the moments I dislike, then I say she can became space dust.

Damn. This thread is timeless. On topic, I suppose I saved Ash more times than not because I liked her better (well at least up till ME3 that is).

Saved Kaidan not because I disliked Ash on the contrary I really did like her but her class wasn't so useful to my vanguard and I can get other classes to fill her role... Plus the way I see it on virmire kaidan should be with the bomb since techy guy and ashley protecting the salarians like a soldier and die like one too plus I love kaidans development through all 3 games ![]()

I'm preparing myself mentally that my next run will be the first (likely also the last
) where I save Ash instead of Kaidan because I want to experience Ash's content in ME3 for once when not seeing it only on Youtube. This will hurt me.

I originally saved Kaidan because he was my Shepard's LI, and I just liked him better. He's a sweetheart. Also, he was the one at the bomb site. It made more sense for Shepard to go back to the bomb site and make sure everything is clear. It didn't make sense to run off in the other direction while the bomb site (the reason why we're there) is being attacked and could potentially be disarmed.
On my maleShep playthrough I saved Ash (I romanced her as well). But then I romanced Miranda in ME2 and when I ran into Ash again in ME3, I was incredibly annoyed with her attitude. I mean, she rubbed me the wrong way when I originally spoke to her the first time I played, but she really got under my skin here. I thought about having maleShep come full circle with Ash, but after the confrontation on Mars and in the hospital, I kept him with Miranda.
Now from a story standpoint, I would say leaving Ash on Virmire just seems better. You have the whole thing with her family being shamed and looked down upon, and to have her make such a sacrifice just seems fitting. She proves the Williams' aren't cowards and kind of gets redemption for her family name. In ME2 it's stated that she's posthumously receiving awards, so I think it works out in the end.
From a gameplay standpoint, I usually play soldier class, so Ash really doesn't do anything for me.

That was my plan for one of my playthroughs, but then I just got tired of her and let Garrus shoot her. ![]()

Three reasons:
1. Kaidan is the higher-ranking officer.
2. Kaidan served alongside Shepard longer than Ashley (how much longer, I don't know).
3. RP-wise, I use Ashley dying as a storyline device because I always romance her as ManShep. It leads into him being very cynical in the beginning of ME2.

yeah I like both Shep VA's but then I don't find any of the voice acting necessarily bad in any of the ME or DA games. Although in DAI I have to admit Alix really outdoes herself with the acting she was stupendous. I find her miles better than the other options but then that's my opinion

I always save Kaidan (only once i saved Ashley) because he`s one of my favorite characters, he´s really useful in combat and he's almost always my female Shepard`s LI.

I don't like Ashley, so I have always chosen Kaidan, until now, when I will always choose Ashley, because this time I killed Wrex, and I unlocked every achievement in ME1 (because bonuses...why did they never do that again?).

Pros for Kaidan: 1) higher ranking officer
Pros for Ashley: 1) I like her personality better (not saying I like her; I just like her better than Kaidan)
2) She's a girl, and, whether appropriate or not, there's chivalry in me
3) Her story is better overall. She tells her family, she quotes poetry, she falls in love with Vega, she passes out drunk on ME3... Kaidan talks about his students and his parents, none of whom you ever meet or so much as mention, and he never really develops a solid relationship with any other characters. Poor guy seems solo his whole life unless you romance him.
4) Every time Kaidan talks, I hear Carth Onasi (but for some reason, I don't hear Oracle when I hear Ashley). Can't shake Carth's smexiness out of my head when playing ME, and don't care to have Carth "invade" the ME universe. Though, admittedly, having the Reapers attack the Death Star would make for an interesting battle. I reckon the Death Star would win unless an Oculus managed to go in and take out the Death Star. Maybe the Death Star should have been the Crucible!
So I go for Ashley about 75% of the time.

Saved Ash on first play though due to her being romantic interst.
On next play though I forgot I wanted to also save the Salarian team. And sent Ash with them by mistake. So just said fudge it and went with it.

I regret saving Ash on this play through. Kaidan is a better character tbh. I might have to replay virmire and the ending again, but damn I have a few side quests to deal with *sigh*.

This is a really easy choice. Kaiden regardless of if I'm male or female.
Kaidan is more laid back, likable, nice, is a great squadmate in both ME1 and ME3, and actually feels like a human character in the trilogy. Plus, I feel it makes more sense to keep him alive because he's been with you since the very beginning. It also feels more fitting for him to be with you until the end. He's a good friend to my broshep, and LI for my femshep.
I rarely save Ash, but in the two runs I did, I wasn't impressed at all despite giving her a fair shot. She was interesting in ME1. But in ME3, what happened?! She's dull, does nothing, is not as useful in combat, and her romance is really weak. Also, I really dislike that Ash just hung out in the lounge and did nothing. She didn't talk or interact with anyone unlike Kaiden. It didn't help her case or make her feel like a character. Outside of the scene with her getting drunk (which isn't that funny), she has no scenes to improve her character like Kaiden.
Also if you tell her to shove it for romancing someone in ME2, she acts like a brat. And if you aren't nice to her and don't visit her enough, she curses you as she dies. Kaiden doesn't do that. And she's not even good looking in ME1 or ME3. Tali and Miranda are far better LI.
So yeah. This is the easiest choice. There is no reason to keep Ash alive.

Ashley was my LI, as simple as that. It was instinctive too. I liked both of them, and both were useful, even if Kaidan was from a higher military rank. I'm not going to pretend that my personal feelings didn't interfere.

My reason for saving Ashley the first time was practical.
I am sending one person with the Salarians to coordinate and communicate, so I picked an Officer, which is Kaidan.
Then I chose to go defend the bomb, the actual objective, just to be sure, even though I was told it couldn't be deactivated. I don't want to take any chances.
It was disappointing that they give a scene of the person at the bomb if you leave them but no scene of the other watching the Normandy fly away if you save the bomb person. Unless their is one and I forgot.
