How about treating his property with care? I have hundreds of games, some over 10 years old and yet I can still use the CD because I've not smeared them with jam or scratched them. If your disc gets damaged beyond working then it's your own fault. Can't people live with the consequences of their actions anymore? "Ohnoes I dropped my disc out of the window and stepped on it, Bioware it's all your fault!"
Shut up, this was pointless, what world do you live in?
You DO realize that it CAN be played without a disk in drive?
Most complaining here may be the end-user indeed, but their complaints are valid. Disk-check serves no real purpose. Telling people to live with the consequences of their actions? What is this hog wash? I don't see the point in telling people to live to retarded ill-founded wisdom. I'd go deeper into this but it is unwarranted.

I don't buy digital copies because I like to have the game available if I don't have internet access or I have a slow connection. If I decide to uninstall a game it's more convenient to have it on hand. I also like to have a physical manual.
Swapping disks is a major hassle. You need to keep the disc cases easily accessible, you need to spend a minute digging things out, you need to deal with drive noise, etc. Whenever possible I seek out a solution so that I can play without a disc.
Oh, and a year or so ago Blizzard let players register all of their games online so that you can download a digital copy at any time, and consequently removed the disc checks from the games that use keys as well. There's no reason a similar thing couldn't be done for Dragon Age, especially considering the amount of online interaction already taking place.

Disc checks is one of the (many) reasons people become pirates in the first place. There were cracked torrents within a couple days of launch. It's completely worthless and likely to actually cost them money.

Hey, I bought my copy and I can't even play with the DLC rightfully mine by purchase.

Any form of DRM only punishes legitimate users anyway. You can download games with cracks/workarounds within days if not hours after release (hell some stuff is released illegally b4 the official releases).
Silly old ones like the disc check on DA actually managed to surprise me since I didn't expect something this stupid to still be in use.

I have the same problem with this as with Dawn of War 2. It installs fine, but then it won't 'see' the disc for the check.
I solved it with DoW2 by registering the serial with steam then downloading it from steam. For DA I had to use a different method.
Extremely annoying either way to a legitimate user, for a technology that does absolutely nothing to prevent piracy.

Too much discussion of software piracy and ways of circumventing copy protection and DRM. That's not permitted here.
End of line.
End of line.
